You made a really nice thread protector there. Nice work. The new thing is putting the front sight back on the frame and cutting the barrel way back to just 2 inches.

I see the great quality of your workmanship and I have a Ruger 22/45 Mk lll and I was wondering how much it would cost me if I wanted to do have the same machining done in this video but with the barrel the length of the sight (1.5") past the receiver plus the threaded end and the sight re-tapped and drilled.
@TheTen32Co11 жыл бұрын
Very nice work! How do you secure the barrel when turning? Just in the chuck, with a dog between centers? Just curious, and always looking to see if there's something I can pick up from someone who does good quality work.
@jcsguns10 жыл бұрын
RobysAds, yes it may cause some damage. we go back afterwards and re crown it. thanks for watching...

Nice work Dude! I wanna know if in your experience using a tailstock inside the barrel can cause damage to the rifling, especially in a delicate part as the muzzle is. Thanks in advance.

Wow, at 2:15 the holes don't look like the Y zeros were the same for each hole. Did the drill walk? And was that a CNC turning center you used for threading and end cap? Thanks!

@jcsguns10 жыл бұрын
thread was set back .5 the front sight is 6/40 thread pitch. hope this helps, good luck...

I noticed you are not using anything to protect the finish of the barrel while it is in the vise or in the lathe chuck, why is that? Also how are you insuring that the new tapped hole for the front sight is at true top dead center of the barrel? I ask this because the factory hole and the hole you drilled do not look to be in alignment.
@DontLieBoutStuff7 жыл бұрын
I noticed the exact same things, I paid a local shop to move the sight on a rifle I cut the barrel down on, the sight ended off a few degrees to the left and rendered one of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned useless without a scope . and I'm not a scope guy.
@ken4819595 жыл бұрын
The way I would do it would be to use soft jaws, if you're a tool maker, you probably would,too. As far as indexing for the sight screw, I would place the proper size bit in the chuck and insert it into the original hole for the sight to set it exactly on the top, and then simply move the mill table to the desired location. I don't know how he did it, but that's how I would do it.

I'd be willing to pay you to do this to my ruger mark iii/iv, most likely iv. what state do you live in? This is a serious offer as i would really like to have a threaded barrel for a future suppressor on my ruger mark iii/iv(want to sell the iii to get a iv). the only thing is is that i dont want the barrel to be shortened at all. some shortening i imagine is necessary but i really dont want it a full inch shorter.
@jcsguns7 жыл бұрын
Threading the barrel does not shorten the barrel at all. Threads are machined to the outer diameter of the barrel leaving the inside of the barrel and lands the same length.
