Just a Few Acres Farm

Just a Few Acres Farm

2 жыл бұрын

Today I have three happy farmers (including me) to get lots of work done. Hilarie, Dad and I work through the heat and humidity to take care of the animals, repair the tractors and equipment, and rake and bale hay.
Note:
-We do not offer farm tours or accept visitors
-We do not sell from the farm
-We do not ship our farm's products
-We do not sell live animals

Hi All, there is something I should have clarified in the video: my fuel tank leak is in the 1 gallon starting tank, not the main diesel fuel tank. I put less than a pint of fuel in it to get the tractor started. The tank was empty and had quit dripping by the time I drove the tractor into the field. Rest assured I will repair it in the proper fashion.

@@xkitchick I'm a little biased since all we use on our farm are ford's. But I would say anything ford 98 or older If your not doing alot of towing I would get a gas F150 or F250 because if you don't do your own work finding places that work on diesel can be difficult and is usually more expensive to buy and repair.
@ChevyConQueso

Best value pickup out there in my opinion: Ford F-350 4x4 between 1987 and 1996. No carburetors, it has the desirable Dana 60 solid axle up front, Sterling 10.5 rear, and either a 351 small block, 460 big block, or diesel option. If you get the automatic, add a large aftermarket transmission cooler. If you have a manual, just make sure you change rubber mounts and U joints when they need it. They'll last a long, long time. Manual is always my personal choice, and I have a NP435 granny 4 speed in my daily driver F-350. Next good value, and some will argue this, would be the 1999-2002 Superduty with the 7.3 diesel, or any Superduty with the V10, either the earlier 2 valve or later 3 valve. Neither have variable valve timing to fail. The 2 valve 5.4 isn't terrible, but the V10 gets the same gas mileage as the underwhelming 5.4 and does better pulling trailers. There was a spark plug issue on specific years but it's not a bad fix. Just make sure it's already been done before you buy, unless you know how to handle it beforehand. There are good GM models but I don't feel they have the bang for the buck of the Fords I have listed. If you go GM, the early 2000s 6.0 gas trucks aren't bad, nor the older ones with a 454 or 8.1. I strongly dislike the IFS and 4x4 system on them, but for just a plain old 2wd or minimal offroad use, they're fine. The 6.0 gas is a good engine although less low end power than the Ford and GM big blocks. If you're gonna pull heavy often, you'll want the bigger engines. I own several 460 engines, and have owned the IDI diesels and the computer controlled Powerstroke 7.3. Dad has a 2001 Powerstroke 7.3 with 350K miles on it right now. Driven and worked on many Ford and GM vehicles over the years. don't let anyone tell you a 460 is a boat anchor. Chances are they've never changed the spark plugs on one. I have a 700 hp 460 in my drag car with a stock block and crankshaft. They can take some abuse. Good luck. Just remember gasoline costs a whole hell of a lot less than payments and fixes on modern unreliable diesels. Stop by any of the diesel forums if you're interested in knowing what's terrible and what isn't. Just DO NOT BUY A FORD WITH THE 6.0 OR 6.4 POWERSTROKE!!!! This Ford guy says stay the hell away from them. Great transmissions, great trucks... terrible emissions controlled diesels that are very expensive to fix. Hell, stay away from any computer controlled diesels other than the Cummins 5.9 or Ford Powerstroke 7.3 and you'll be a lot happier.

That pin hole fuel leak drives me crazy, if for no other reason than that's truly a financial leak! If you can get your hand in on the specific leak location, and can clean up the area with some emery cloth, I'll bet you could put a dollop of JB Weld on it to seal it up. You most likely wouldn't even have to drain the tank, although that would be optimal(tilt the tractor with a really low tank so the fuel pools far left and prevents the right hand leak from dripping maybe). Crumble some 0000 steel wool and mix it into the JB Weld before applying it to the tank, and that repair will most likely live forever. Keep making great videos. People like you and your family are the pulse of America as far as I'm concerned.

Back in the day (fifties) I ran the combine, corn picker, mowed hay, bushhoged, cultivated, and numerous other things and you could always tell when thing weren't right. Old machines had their very own hum/sound when they were running/working....strange sounds/noises usually meant problems, those older machines talked to you and you better listen. And combining (oats/soybeans) with a two row pull combine, my neck would get a kink in it by days end. Oh yes, and no heated or air conditioned cab.....good old days👍 And I will always remember when I went off to college Dad bought a new tractor with a frontend loader and cab!

Pete, I know this is two years ago and someone may have turned you on to this. But, if you are still having issues with the Toyota linkage try non-drying silicone spray. I believe PB blaster makes some. You may be swelling those linkage grommet bushings with the PB blaster and making it tighter and worse. Just a suggestion friend. 😊
