On a recent visit to the Lake District I decided to seek out another train! The only train I could find was the little train at Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum. Unfortunately I didn't get to see their steam engine but nevertheless we had a trip behind a diesel engine to the quarry. At the quarry our tour guide Ian gave us a brief history of the quarry.
The Museum has lots (really lots) of information about the local mines and quarries. Far too much for me to take in on our visit. In addition, there's a whole load of vintage excavators which have been kept including the Ruston Proctor steam excavator which dates back to 1909.
This video only features the train trip - including me having a whinge about the rain (sorry!). Enjoy!
