I probably wouldn't of liked them when they first came out. I am more mellow now. Aiden was another one i just started listening to. Because i seen them metion the misfits in interviews. I more grew up in the 80s 90s punk rock era. But try to listen to bands iv never really messed with. But they sound good.

@@broitssnow Yea, and I still think nutjobs would appropriate it. Imagine you're an anti-vaxxer (I hope you're just imagining) and read the lyrics. Also Thrice is not a Christian band. Some songs lean more that way but they've specifically said they don't do that and they've even changed lyrics in the past that were originally too on the nose.

@@ManticorePinion I mean, I don’t like meds in general for myself but couldn’t care less with what people pump into their own bodies. I can see how people could misconstrue what the lyrics are saying but if you’re a Christian it’s blatantly obvious that he’s referring to the Church being the image of the invisible God. A name that has lost meaning over the centuries since most pagan religions have died off. All of the pagan religions would build, carve or paint images of their gods but the true God says not to try and reduce him to something that’s man made in the 2nd commandment.

@konversion

A song having a minor biblical reference really shouldn't really be that much of a reminder of your faith. The bible is a piece of literature (the truth behind it is neither here nor there) but it can be referenced without the referencing work also being a biblical piece of work. I'm a Satanist and we reference the bible regularly because it coincides with what we believe; it doesn't remind me that I'm a child of Baphomet, it just reminds me that it's a piece of literature.

@@konversion I already know what the Satanic Temple claims to be. Hail Satan was pretty informative but the problem is you’re following a very new church that is still in many ways in agreement with the Church of Satan. I know you think you’re involved in something harmless, but I really hope you’ve at least given God a chance. Satan has nothing good to offer you and if you believe he does, you’re deceived. But I guess if you’re part of the Satanic Temple then you really just believe it’s all metaphorical. You do you, and I’ll be praying for you regardless.

@@tinaholbrook9719 yeah. I'm way to the right. Income taxes shouldn't be a thing and are unconstitutional and immoral along with every gun law. Public education shouldn't exist nor social security, any sort of universal healthcare. None of them are responsibilities of government or your neighbor. I don't know how woke he got, but I just plug my ears and listen to the music, because most musicians will be. It was unique that he was openly Christian. People think he gave up his Christianity, but he didn't really. He just started talking about the Bible not being inerrant, because it's written by humans. Not because God isn't holy. Which I've struggled with some things too as a Christian, but that's just part of being a Christian. I figured he was pretty center or left of center in politics, but I figured he was left, because of his Christianity, thinking welfare and affirmative action and all that bullshit is just being altruistic, and doesn't realize it's literally putting a gun to people's heads and stealing from them.

@sherazuki

@@frpdude Sure, you can interpret it that way, but the album cover alone should tell you it's about more than just Christianity. Everyone is named, everyone is known. Nobody can take that away from you. Even if they try. It's not just about Christians. If I was a modern day Christian zealot, they would call it "Satanic". I'm pretty sure he's talking about something more fundamental than just Christians acting out the Bible, which is what's happening today. They are making it happen, it's not God doing it.

It's ironic because I've always been a complete atheist but most of my favourite musicians are intensely Religious and it shows in their music. Regardless, I don't hope for a future without Religion, to me that's silly. It honestly doesn't matter to me whether people believe something or don't. I am awake now. When I was about 14 years old, this song came out and I was obsessed with it. No one I knew in my age group was into this kind of music. So this was kind of a little secret gem I had found that I became totally enthralled with. In the beginning of Covid, I truly had my awakening. I had a great spiritual awakening. One night while meditating just a few nights ago this song came back to me in a vision. And I realized OMG this sounds like awakening music. I told myself OMG I need to look up the lyrics and go listen to this song now that I’m awakened and OMG! Everything I have been learning about the truth and everything going on in this life was confirmed coming back to this song. The tunnels and the children and taking back your soul part. No wonder I was so obsessed with this song at a young age because my soul already knew.

Popped it in out of morbid curiosity, and I still love this song: I never understood the force and almost anger going through it back then, but I was an angry and stupid kid. NOW I get it. Thanks, guys; you were one of the bands that led me to my favorite genre, and your music still holds up, even after having gone through years of musical theory and training my ears. Keep kicking ass, guys. Know you guys won't see this message, but you kept a depressed kid from losing his sanity completely in a world that was completely fucked up. Wish you all well, and that message is more important than ever nowadays. "We're more than carbon and chemicals, Free will is ours and we can't let go." For anyone who was like me who's just now discovering these guys: you're not alone. You can make it through.

We're more than carbon and chemicals We are the image of the invisible Free will is ours and we can't let go We are the image of the invisible We can't allow this, the quiet cull We are the image of the invisible So we sing out this, our canticle We are the image of the invisible We all were lost and we are found No one can stop us or slow us down We are the named and we are known We know that we'll never walk alone We're more than static and dial tone We are the image of the invisible We're emblematic of the unknown We are the image of the invisible So raise the banner, bend back your bows We are the image of the invisible Remove the cancer, take back your souls We are the image of the invisible We all were lost and we are found No one can stop us or slow us down We are the named and we are known We know that we'll never walk alone Though all the world may hate us, we are named The shadow overtake us, we are known We're more than carbon and chemicals Free will is ours and we can't let go We are the image of the invisible We're more than carbon and chemicals We are the image of the invisible Free will is ours and we can't let go We are the image of the invisible We can't allow this, the quiet cull We are the image of the invisible So we sing out this, our canticle We are the image of the invisible We all were lost and we are found No one can stop us or slow us down We are the named and we are known We know that we'll never walk alone Raise up the banner, bend back your bows Remove the cancer, take back your souls.

I haven't heard this song in over 5 years and then I just heard Skid Row " Youth gone wild" and something about the guitar riff and backing vocals reminded me of a thrice song, hence leading me here.

JanKulozik okay yeah I could see that. What I was referring to is a few shots that are actually directly from Schindler's List, like the kid hiding in the piano, and the one under the bed. Although in Schindler's List, the kid under the bed is killed, not just kidnapped.

I always felt it had a 1984 vibe too. See "All That's Left" for a similar vibe if different vid content. They're taking directly on with the source material by quoting Winston and Julia's mantra: "We are the dead".

Remember when I first heard this. About 05’ or 06’, we were playing Tony Hawks American Wasteland. Never knew this whole time this song was about missing children or etc.. fast forward over a decade later and this phenomenon is STILL not talked about. STILL not “mainstream” or “normal”. Instead it’s not normal to talk about missing children.
