GREAT job and awesome video. I love using Bestine. When the factory that made it closed some years back right here in New Jersey (before it moved to California), I know the owner of the company who cleaned out the factory. I could have purchased two 55 gallon drums of Bestine for $200.00. I regret not buying it,but glad I didn't Have a great weekend!

I'm really glad that you chose this book to preserve. I know lifting all of the tape was quite a task, but looks so much better. Looking forward to seeing how you put that sliver of color back on the book. I'm team "no tape".

Hey Jerry, love your videos. I am concerned that you are using xylene without a solvent mask or gloves. Xylene is toxic and you really should protect yourself when using that solvent. You are such a valuable a member of our community and we want you to keep yourself safe!

Happy Friday, Jerry. Question: if you were to soak the cover in the solution for a few minutes, would it help with the process, or damage the book further? Or is it book by book assessment when it comes to tape? I have an ASM #129 with tape. The tape is newer than the Thrilling Comics and I was thinking to do the heat method first and then use Bestine. It’s a low grade book - was graded by CGC at 1.8 so I need to break the case and work on it when I get the courage. Thanks as always. I really enjoy the new intro, by the way.

Thank you Peter! It definitely is a book by book assessment. With this book off camera 🎥 I applied the solution for at least ten to fifteen minutes at different intervals. In my opinion a lot has to do with the damage that is existing under the tape before you start to remove it and the luck of the draw. No matter how much solution or soaking time I did the thin strip on the right side of the cover was not wanting to release from tape. This thin strip was the edge of the first layer of tape with two layers of tape on top. The only era of of books I definitely would not soak is silver age which are in my opinion the weakest of the eras and easiest to damage. The good old ASM 129 Bronze Age beauty is a hardy book that can withstand soaking in my opinion with the chemical. Good luck Peter!
