Talk about a throwback...it's the first episode of Horsepower TV ever! Chuck and Joe bolt on a few extra horsepower to Project Pony Car. After installing a nitrous kit, they take it to the track to test it out. Then, they use an old '39 Buick chassis to demonstrate how to bring a street rod into the '90s with a front end kit. Later, it's down to Orlando for the world's ultimate street car shootout - the Real World Street Nationals.

This was the first of “Horsepower TV” series, but the same show called “Hot Rod TV” with Joe and Chuck as hosts was the real start to this series.

@@CarsandCats I can understand why he left. His young son was tragically killed and he wanted to spend more time with his family. This was also a side gig for him as he ran ACES for many years. I miss seeing all his cool Chevelles and other Chevrolets on the show. Cool guy!

While I was more of a trucks fan back in the day, its nice to see these old Horsepower episodes especially the ones that don't show up on the power nation website (For some reason)

More of these old episodes please! I started watching this and the other powerblock shows when i was in high school.My sisters husband was building a 68 Chevelle during that time in life.I got to hang with him and all his racing buddies.Went to Commerce dragway(Atlanta Dragway) all the time.Even ran into Joe from this show a couple times there.It got closed down after the 2021 season.What a bummer.Anyway,those were the days back then.

Fun fact: This isn't even the very first episode of Horsepower TV. Believe it or not, it was known as Hot Rod TV and it actually debuted in 1997. The reason why it was renamed to Horsepower TV in 1999 was that TNN lost the rights to the Hot Rod Magazine naming. Sometime after Powerblock became Powernation, Horsepower became "Engine Power" and now mainly focuses on...you guessed it...engines!

I take it the first mods to the car where covered in the magazine? Since this is the first episode, would that be correct? I remember watching this show along with several others on TNN.

That 9 inch wasn't needed the 8.8 would have held up fine... u just added extra weight
@TheRoadhammer379
@TheRoadhammer379 Жыл бұрын
The 8.8 can be built super stout now, back then there wasn't nearly as much aftermarket support. You are absolutely right about lighter in weight, but the limiting factor back in 99 was the availability of stronger axle shafts for the 8.8 vs 9". You have to take into consideration that the race scene was heavily foxbody back then and racers were dumping the 8.8 in favor of 9" when running nitrous, blowers and superchargers so aftermarket support was with the 9".
