As one of those amputees mentioned. Here as a non vet but to support the Resurgence PPG cause. The sponsorship of the veteran candidate here at AviatorPPG was a pleasure to be part of. Hoping more people realize the beneficial impact of the program. Was nice having a chance to meet you Tucker and Jaclyn. Also meant a lot to me to have you there for first flights. Awesome video as always too!! Thanks for the inspiration!!!!!!

Sorry if these questions have already been asked/answered but didn't want to read all 214 comments.... 1) That caribiner... is that REALLY all there is connecting the reserve to the weight of the paramotor + human + G forces as the reserve opens and pulls against those weights dynamically pulling on it? 2) The pack didn't open when you threw it... you said it would have if it had been actually up in the air... is that because the wind whipping it around would open it?

Thanks for the video Tucker. I was taught one final step after the "Throw". That was to haul back in on the bridle lines...it was to accomplish two things. First, "IF" the reserve did not come out of its container...time would be saved hauling it back to you for a second attempt. and secondly...if the reserve container did release, the pulling motion would serve to open the reserve chute a little sooner, thus saving valuable time between Earth and you. I hope this helps., Thanks again for all your videos...they are fantastic and very informative.

On repack you also need to check the lines to the parachute for being tangled.....just pull them apart before you start the folding and "fluffing" process....sometimes those lines stick.....and that last fold of the parachute before stuffing it, do it the opposite way...let's the parachute open more quickly.

I’d definitely pull by hand the last elastic ring section - between the actual parachute and the white lines… After seen the vid where the guy just throws it and it doesn’t open. Fortunately his second reserve did open. I get a feeling that sometimes the airstream is not strong enough to open the chute.

Good Stuff! I re-packed my reserve a couple of weeks ago. I cannot say you did anything wrong, however I suggest tossing in an open area. Your garage is nice, but it is far too small. My Paraglider club hangs from basketball hoops for a toss. We then pack as a "Party". Not this year, but most years. :) Having it fully deploy is important to know your technique is good. If you can chuck it far enough to get it out of the D-Bag, you've had a good toss. I love your content, and your merch. Keep it up! Blue Skies & Fly in Peace (>*

Out of curiousity are there any reserve toss clinics ? Maybe a day event somewhere where you get in one of those gyro chairs (3 axis jobby) where your buddies give you a good spin and then someone randomly calls out “toss”. Obviously using a dummy chute or one that’s tied off. Video it as I’m sure everyone can do a deep analysis after whilst watching and drinking a few brewskies !!

A good argument to why not have one is: It can happen that you throw it unintentionally. Like during a launch or something when your wing is perfectly inflated. Then it can be a serious problem. That being said, I defenatly preffer flying with a reserve :-)

A reserve might not work in some situations, but not having one means you don't have that out in any sitution. It should probably be mentioned that if you have to use one, it doesn't mean you won't be injured when you land, it means you'll probably live when you land. The few times I skydived we were told that even if we did everything right, should we have to use the reserve, we would likely end up with a broken bone or two.
@terrysullivan1992
@terrysullivan1992 5 жыл бұрын
As a skydiver for 20 years I've never heard or observed that. It's nonsense. A skydiving reserve is just another parachute much like the one that is malfunctioning. It flys and lands the same. So no injuries.

Official reserve procedure: Decide, Look/Reach, Pull, Look, Throw. In a situation midair/weather/fire can be disorienting: Once you deploy, you lose control, so decide: Wait? Over water/powerlines/altitude: make a firm decision; may benefit from a delay or may require immediacy. You may be in an unusual attitude, so visually locate/grab handle. Commit to using necessary force to remove diaper from pack. Look for clear air: you may be spinning/tangled (another wing)/inverted: find or attempt to predict a clear throw toward outside of rotation. Throw hard/pull on bridle again if necessary, to separate diaper/facilitate inflation. Hang glider pilot since 1972 speaking.

Question... as a skydiver why would you not jump out of the seat and open the reserve with a static line or cut away the main before the reserve??? Entanglement is a serious issue in skydiving I feel like the procedures need to be refined for paramotor. Also, Why is there not a drogue shoot attached to the bag??? Love your videos man!!!

So when I was a kid, I had some of those plastic paratrooper toy soldiers with the little 12" vinyl "parachute". About 50% of the time after I packed those little guys and tossed 'em off the roof, they'd stay gift wrapped all the way to impact in the sand box or next to the parked bicycles. Should I just send mine out to a pro?

@TuckerGott

It makes it a little bit harder to completely straighten your torso. I tend to do a lot of footdrags and launches and landings so I prefer the front mount. On the Icarus race, however, I used the underseat container and it worked perfectly. I think it's a really great feature especially for cross country pilots.
