Thrustmaster is launching a brand new product - AVA (Advanced Versatile Aviation) joystick base. AVA represents a major step forward for the company over the well known HOTAS Warthog. The new base is very flexible and it can very easy be customized to various preferences and different aircraft types - military jets, warbirds, civil airplanes or helicopters. I haven't really tried all the big brands so I can only give a limited opinion. But I'll tell you one thing, some 20 years ago I had one with force feedback. I miss that in modern ones.

Thank you for commenting! Well, it's kinda limited to different springs and cams as it doesn't have an adjustable part for it.

Thanks for the vid😀Can you specify how dampened it is? will it still rock around after returning it to center with dampener to max? or will it slowly go there?

@@AsheS-J It doesn't go slowly and it will rock somewhat.

The AVA has no dampening ATM. But it is planed to be sold later as an add-on. Adjusting for stronger spring tension mitigates it a little bit, but it isn't dampening.

Thanks for the video! Your remarks about the "springiness" at 5:02 was precisely the insight I was looking for, and the reason I will NOT be purchasing this base. I love the old TM WH base over WinWing and others specifically because there is no springiness feel to it. I'm kind of upset that TM went that direction for this base as I found the non-springy feature of their WH base to be the most appealing to me. Thanks for the honest review.

I appreciate your feedback! Lots of people seem to hate the Warthog base but to me, it felt quite right in many aspects. I suppose TM has to go in the direction they are going and it does offer certain advantages. We'll see if they ever send me more stuff to test but they explicitly said I could point out to the things I don't like :)

@@showtime112 Thanks. Yeah, I've seen the TM WH base take a lot of hits, mostly about the plastic components. I don't understand that. I have the Virpil Wrbrd as well as WinWing bases and grips; they just feel a lot more flimsy and gamey... the TM WH with F16 or F18 grip is my go to for jets as it feels way more solid to me.

So as a owner of virpil and winwing bases, is it really a must have above the original Warthog base. Is it that much of an advantage to have a more progressive feel with winwing/virpil and now the AVA by thrustmaster, over the more linear feel of the warthog. Can you be more precise with something like the virpil compared to warthog. I am on the fence of buying ava, not sure if really worth it over my warthog. Mainly fly F18, F14 and soon F4 in dcs, with some airbus commercial flying.

@@kiekiek Great question. I am on the same fence as you. Personally I am going to give it some more time, watch some more reviews and make a decision later. I am presently very happy with my old TM WH base.

@@EvansRG78 yes 300 euro's is not cheap, and I always have been pleased with the warthog stick, never had the feel I was extremely inaccurate with it or could not control the planes well. So probably wait it out a bit.

Would you say this is suitable for a beginner to flight sims? Like the way you showed how to perform certain changes to it. New sub to your channel.

Thank you for subscribing. Ava is suitable for beginners in the sense that it is very easily adjustable. Now, you have to ask yourself how serious you are about flight sims as it's not cheap. Alternatively, you might first purchase a cheaper system such as T16000M and then something high-end such as this later.

I bought the AVA base to replace my Warthog base. I wouldn't buy it again. The AVA base is wobbly around the middle and the forces are going up too much towards the maximum, regardless of cams and springs. I will be changing to a FF-stick as soon as they become affordable. The price of 300,00 Euro is overpriced in comparison to the competition. Quality is OK, as far as I can judge it after 3 weeks. Compared to the original Warthog base, AVA is the better option, but it is not an overwhelmingly better base. The stickyness around the center is actually gone, but the other than that I can't see any improvement. The additional cam and the optional springs are nice but no game-changer. I wouldn't buy the AVA base again at the current price.

Thrustmaster misses the BIG and FAST Train FFB...i told them 2 years ago! Now MOZA, FliteSim and WinWing will take this wide open market! Brunner is out of range for most of the simmers!
