Dumpster diving and scrap pickups have us well on our way to fixing the car up! Got pretty cold though, which wasn't nearly as much trouble as the fresh foot of snow haha. Scrapping in Canada, wheee!

When I saw the video pop up in my feed I wondered how it was scrapping in -30 temperatures we've been having. But i didn't really think about how big of an issue the snow would be. Hope your staying warm, looking forward to slightly warmer weather.

A sad day for me - some idiot came out of nowhere and smashed into my 4Runner, hard enough to knock the whole front wheel assembly off the truck. Considering it’s 24 years old, I imagine it will be totalled. So not only is n my super-dependable Toyota gone, and I am sure I won’t get enough from insurance to buy another, but it’s Sunday and that’s my best day of the week for picking and diving and I don’t have a vehicle! I am already itching to go out and then I watch your video here and now I am all but screaming! Thanks for doing the thing and bringing us along.

Oh no!! That’s crap, I’m sorry that happened to you. It sounds like you were in it rather than it being parked, must’ve been an incredibly upsetting experience.. those things do hood their value though, maybe you’ll get more than you think. Definitely sounds like a write off though. Damn.

Oh man that sucks, hope you can buy it back from insurance and have it fixed if it's not too far gone . Tough finding one to replace it I bet. I scrap a lot with my 2002 4runner, I don't need a truck because the back window rolls down so anything too long just hangs out the back window 😃

Since is snowy already there, you should take a scrapcation. Come south and do scrap runs along the way to pay for it! I'm just outside seattle and theres TONS of construction here that would 100% let you take all the metal scrap.

No way! I wouldn't dive in those snow covered dumpsters either, you never know whats under there like broken glass, tons of nails or just dangerous footing. Good call sir.

You should get a little battery powered leaf blower of some sort to blow off the layer of snow so you can see what's in the dumpsters better just a thought much love from Cincinnati

Really dislike how companies are making more and more plastic products instead of aluminum, although it’ll last longer, it lasts thousands of years too in a landfill.. I’m a builder myself and I see it more everyday

Makes me sad! “Lasts longer” in a sense but it also cracks and breaks much easier. Seems like being cheaper is the only advantage, at significant other costs

Advice huh… well everybody ends up with their own system so nothing beats just figuring out what works for you! I’ve got a decent playlist of “is it worth it” videos but in a more general sense, my best advice is you need to value your time or you’ll spend an entire evening picking things apart to make $8. Steel is the meal, most money comes from the steel so a vehicle with some cargo space makes a big difference. Networking is super important, random finds are not consistent. And personally I like hunting during the day because it creates opportunities to meet people and have conversations. All the best!

So watching your last video I noticed you replaced the struts and other things on rear door I actually think you should consider calling around looking for a rear door instead of trying to replace the rear glass it's prob cost efficient

that place with 3 dumpsters keep an eye on that place for sure. I know 2 buildings down from where my brother works they have been gutting this office building and there has been 3 dumpsters that have been loaded for months. All the cat5 ( almost 300 pounds myself). There was still more That was buried and another local diver who posts on Tik Tok pulled over 100 pounds one day. Last night a good haul of BX with the wire in it. 40 pounds of brass and more.

Dang, that sounds awesome! I’ll definitely check it from time to time, I feel like the roof tiles and gross carpet would be among the first stuff they would trash? Well… maybe not the carpet, I’d keep that in until I was done making dust everywhere. But it’s a good pla and I like it!

Doing your own oil change isn't about saving money. Its about getting a good filter and oil for same price as the whatever oil and filter the coupon gets you. Wow

If it wasn’t for the snow I’d be more than happy about it! Working in the cold is way easier than working in the smouldering hot, you can definitely keep your 80deg!

In east/southeast Texas we stop getting 80 degree days on about January 1st, and then start getting them again around January 6th LOL. Luckily the average humidity is only 90% for Houston (I'm not kidding)...
