The 848 Hull-A-Port XT is Thule's premium vertical kayak carrier. The vertical support folds down with one hand for aerodynamic efficiency and to greatly improve overhead clearance while not in use.
Carry up to two kayaks due to the dual position design that transforms from a J-cradle to two boat stacker position.
This carrier attaches to the widest range of roof rack cross bars thanks to the tools-free FlipFit mounting hardware. For those seeking a cleaner, more integrated attachment, the Hull-A-Port Aero includes square-headed bolts for T-track load bar mounting on Thule's AeroBlade, AeroBlade EDGE, and the Thule Xsporter truck rack.
Lock cylinder housings are built into each carrier, just plug in Thule's lock cylinders to provide a strong thief deterrent for the carriers. Thule also offers 10-foot locking straps to extend the security to the kayak as well, sold separately, see related products.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
- Load bars should be a minimum of 24" apart with a maximum of 36" apart.
- Kayak must be no wider than 34 inches and no heavier than 75 pounds.
- In stacker mode, the combined weight of both kayaks must be no heavier than 130 pounds.
KAYAK INSTALLATION
- Load kayak into the carrier and position the weight evenly between the two supports.
- Slide buckle bumper up the strap to expose strap buckle.
- Route straps as illustrated in manual.
- Pull strap firmly to secure the boat to the carrier.
- Slide buckle bumper down over buckle.
- Tie off loose end of the strap.
- Secure bow and stern line hooks to the vehicles tow hooks or other secure mounting points. Failure to do so may result in loss of kayak from the vehicle.
The maximum load specified in the assembly instructions is not to be exceeded. However, this limit is always subordinate to the maximum load recommended by the manufacturer of the car itself. It is always the lower maximum recommended load that applies. Max roof load = load carrier weight + any fitted carrier accessories + the weight of the load itself.

I cant seem to get mine to fit level. It twists round slightly with the shape of the wing bar when i tighten it up?

First time kayaker here..I have this same carrier and the box says it'll hold up to 4 kayaks..how is this so?

Hello. The Thule 848 Hull-a-Port XT, can hold up to two kayaks weighting up to 130 pound combined, this requires the vertical support in the right angle position and an extra set of straps. The Thule 830 Stacker can hold up to four kayaks with combined weight not to exceed the roof rack's weight capacity. Thanks!

Hey Bobby! Yes, you will absolutely need to use those straps to secure the kayak to the front and back of the car. This is to ensure the kayak cannot launch forward or back in the event of an accident, and they are required to ensure total safety on the road. Safe travels!

Does the locking system prevent someone with the same rack from using their tool to remove someone else’s rack?

Hello. The Thule Same Key System has hundreds of unique keys numbers, but a rack system can be set up with match locks so one key is all that's needed. Thanks!

I wish that hook was something other than metal.. don't like how close it is to the paint.. I just bought this rack I'm about to pick it up.. your telling me that for 200 they didn't add the strap to go under the hood?

Hello. Not all vehicles require the Hood Loop so it's sold separately. Many vehicles have tow hooks to connect the metal hook directly to the vehicle's underside without involving opening the hood or coming near the painted finish. Hope that helps. Thanks!
