Lol believe it or not a lot of intelligent and creative people don't have good handwriting i don't either, in fact i got constantly slapped on the head for that all the time as if that totally defined me even when there's been other means of doing things for a while now, and even when they could teach us to make notes in a shorter and concise way just being super specific and to the point without compromising on the details. It's better to write less either as short notes or concise step-by-step instructions, same when typing too and these days i write as little as possible and type things out, Leonardo Da Vinci didn't have the best handwriting either and so he just wrote out the equations and he didn't write different equations on the same piece of parchment in order to keep it organized :) although he also wrote backwards cos that's what they did back then is switch the hand if your handwriting wasn't as good but of course we don't do that anymore LOL thank god :P These days it's so so outdated to dock and question people over their handwriting when there's Computers or Tablets with mini keyboards now... in fact i've been questioning on and off when i should get a Tablet cos it seems like it would be the best solution to quickly type something up or work it out as a workaround lol since everyone can read the text on a computer :P so if anyone questions you on it again just flip out your Tablet like a pro and go "okay... what do you want me to note down?", if Stephen Hawking gets a high tech chair with software that can talk for him then other people should be able to make use of electronics as a workaround too *nods*.

Toby, thanks for the amazing video! I really got curious about that PhD attempt in 1901 because I'm a big fan of Boltzmann and statistical mechanics. It's weird that Einstein did so much work in statistical interpretation and in that time there were so many critics about the theory of atom (Gibbs had to talk about ensembles to not be criticized) that probably there were a few problems going this way. I wonder if this topic (History of statistical mechanics and kinetic theory of gases) may be a topic for new videos!

@@tibees I guess what I like about this episode is that we are examining, together, a document of small renown but great interest. We get to see Einstein before the miracle year. He is hoping, with an imperfect thesis, to attain the credential of PhD. Einstein is looking up to those with prestige to grant him a certificate. This is the opposite of our usual view of Einstein, as a lofty figure far above ourselves, possibly above anyone else on Earth. The usual Einstein we learn about can ignore objections all day long and no one will think the worse of him. But this Einstein -- the one you have summoned -- must humbly wait for praise or blame. For that reason I feel as though we are standing next to him in your story about his thesis.

hi there!....i just stumbled on your youtube site a couple days ago!...i admire you.....you are very interesting, and you seem like a very nice person....and very wise for your young age --...although i know you must be older than you look..- but to me you are still very young....you remind me a bit of myself because i started studying math and physics when i was young with romantic aspirations to study in that field....i remember as a teen studying the bios of people like einstein, newton, kepler and several others and would spend countless hours studying math and physics and devising my own methods etc....i loved it.....but for the most part that flame burned out decades ago except for a small ember which flares up from time to time...which is how i stumbled upon you!....i'm gonna look at all your videos because i can identify with you...thank-you for being you!...best regards!

Einstein was a lauzy student, but i did use his work on the bronian motion in my second year in universaty for calculation and mesuring the surface forces depending on the temperature of a solvent. Whole thing was a pulled out off an ass , but got passed. Thank you!

I really enjoyed this - I think everyone loves Einstein more than they do other scientists because his early struggles are so well known & give heart to all of us!

Yup and so relatable i can relate to most of it, although it doesn't make it any easier cos your always gonna go through issues with other people who have issues with you for no real reason lol but it's nice to know others to go through the same things i feel less alone :)

Oh man at about 4:00 this is making so much sense all of a sudden! In the pharmaceutical industry we use 0.22 micron sterile filters for filtering solution to be filled into vials. We use what is called a bubble point test to verify that the filters are the correct filters with the right size pores by measuring the pore size. To do this we put pressure against the solution in the filter membrane until it diffuses through to the other side. The pressure at which the diffusion happens is recorded verifying the integrity of the filter and confirming that the membranes have the correct size pores.
Why haven't you read Einstein's E=mc² proof?
