But that’s exactly why she posted this video. A lot of people just see the funny videos. Making a mess cooking. Saying goofy off the wall stuff and laughing with your family. They don’t see the flip side of what it’s like to start losing control of your motor functions. To be hitting yourself. To be having a hard time breathing. People need to see the other side. It’s good people see the funny more light hearted side. But people need to realize it’s not a joke. It’s a medical condition and for some people it’s really severe.

@@cnacma I also have Tourette's syndrome, I know exactly what you mean. The difficulty breathing is what I worry about. I have a tic every few months where I start closing my throat off when breathing in but it's nothing like this. Breathing issues can raise blood pressure even higher when under stress. Are you having trouble breathing during these attacks? I am curious to know more. I never knew tourette's went this far beyond the trope of cursing.
@erickellys
@erickellys 3 жыл бұрын
Stephen Geist I get bad panic attacks and my throat starts closing off bad and it is extremely scary to experience. When I try the breathing techniques that I was taught by my counselor it makes it so hard to focus on and do. It makes me panic even more. So I was wondering if during that if Jade was having anxiety too. Either way I can’t even imagine going through that. I didn’t even know people with Tourette’s go through that. 😢

@@erickellys Omfg yes! Fuck those exercises. One of my triggers for a panic attack is breathing (as stupid as that sounds) ... It's triggered when I can't take a deep breath properly. The breathing exercises do not work for me, it just makes me freak out even more. It's horrendous.

Oh my god. The way she kept hitting her chest & getting all embarrassed, shortly before she first said, "I think I might be having a tic attack"... that's when I could just 100% tell this video was absolutely real. I have SEVERE respiratory issues, & that exact moment reminded me so much of when I'm in a social setting & can tell I'm starting to have a severe asthma attack -- it's EXTREMELY embarrassing for me, & I always try to play it off like I'm fine until I'm literally gasping for air, at which point I typically do something similar (rap on my chest while trying to smile & choking out the words, "YEAH I THINK I'M HAVING AN ASTHMA ATTACK" shortly before I either claw my inhaler out of my bag, or just stop breathing). I know that exact feeling -- when you've already started panicking internally because you know what's happening to you & can see where this is heading, but to save face in public you try to play it off like you're fine right up until you literally just can't anymore. That's how you can tell who is faking this shit just for "clout" on social media -- kids who are faking Tourette's, for example, tend to tic in either an intentionally "cute" way, or an extremely exaggerated, overly dramatic/theatrical way, like they're just performing for a camera (which, of course, they are). People who ACTUALLY suffer from it tend to be embarrassed of their symptoms, especially when their symptoms are unintentionally loud or disruptive. Imagine being out in public, & you can start to feel yourself gradually losing all control of your body. You struggle to maintain control because you're already shy & don't want to attract attention. You can feel everyone staring at you. People are visibly disturbed. It's a mortifying feeling. Having an actual attack of any sort in public (be it an asthma attack, a tic attack, a panic attack, etc.) is not "cute" or "quirky" -- there's a reason it's called an ATTACK. It's not fun. You genuinely feel like your body is under attack & suddenly completely out of your control, & it's terrifying.

This should be a video that everyone has to watch when first learning about Tourette’s and or Tics. Too many people have only seen lighthearted, funny, kid yelling swear, etc videos. We need to educate people, especially the younger population, on what Tourette’s actually is and symptoms - the not so ‘funny’ tics, self harm tics and very possibly dangerous tics. I love all your videos Jade, but I’m especially glad you are able to make this video to hopefully educate a lot of people. I am so sorry you have to suffer every single day 😓💗

For the people you say "I wish I had tics, they look so much fun", what is the matter with you. Tic are not something you can control, you can't just say "stop" and they'll be gone just like that. People are diagnosed or not with Tourette syndrome. To the people who self diagnose themselves with any sickness, syndrome, or mental issue, this is the real pain people go through.

I've never met anyone with tourettes before, so your videos are a huge source of education for me. The fact that you deal with attacks like this yet are still able to find a way to smile and spread information about tourettes in a positive entertaining way is such a huge testament to your character, and you sharing this moment with us shows how incredibly strong you are. All of this was so painful to watch, but the thing that hit the hardest was the long period of time you were unable to breathe. Asphyxiation is a huge fear of mine. When you said in your last video that sometimes your tics make it so you can't breathe, I definitely didn't picture something this severe. And now to know this is something that happens to you and so many other people... wow. Thank you so much for this video. Thank you for all of your videos. My 9 year old son has Tourette’s. He only has motor and sometimes repeats himself twice like words like “let’s go to the park mom. Mom.” Grunting and he sometimes hits his head it has gotten better over the years with medication. And CBD. And I came across your cooking video. And I watched it and it was so funny and thinking wow such a positive video and highlighting that sometimes you just gotta laugh it off. And then this one popped up. And I’m now in tears sobbing like a baby wanting to give you the biggest hug. And looking at my son like wow. So much respect. And my heart breaks that was very scary. But needed to be shared. It’s not a joke at the end of the day. It is a illness and a serious one. Mental illnesses need to be taken more seriously because it hasn’t been. People think is all fun and games when it’s not. Or people are just faking to be “special”. Nothing special about it. My son stabbed a little boy with a pencil in the 1st grade and didn’t remember doing it and teachers made him out to be “crazy”. That he needed to be separated and treated differently because of his illness. Sorry I’m all in my feelings at the moment. Just want to say. Thank you for sharing. It needed to be shared.

Hey. I developed tourettes around 9 as well, not as bad though. Im 33 now, twitching my neck has slightly deformed it out of place, and my jaw has been slightly displaced as well. It's no joke not being able to control your motricity, but from my experience it's not a constant, there are things that make it worse and things that make it better, As long ad your kid grows healthy habits and keeps on busy he will get a lot better, not saying to ignore it but if taking the focus off it worked the best for me

Man I cried reading this and watching the video. My foster brother had tourettes when he was younger, between the ages of 6 and 17. It was at the worst when he was about 10, then the vocal tics started aswel. Is was super hard to watch when he had tic attacks and all we could do was sit by and not being able to help. He often just cried and said he was so tired after a tic attack he just slept for most of the day. Gladly the older he got the less tics he had. Now he is 22 and almost tic-free. I think thanks to his CBD oil and mindfullnes-therapy. Only when he is under a lot of stress or really excited he has little motor tics. I feel for your son. Reminds me a lot of how my brother was treated when he was a kid. One time he was even accused of being possessed... ridiculus.

And I expirience tremors which are similar yet also different from tics. I understand some of what you’re going through as with my tremors I jerk my head to the side and I get migraines and general headaches. Also the flinching is so terrible I get bad flinches randomly and watching yours as you hit yourself are terrible.

So the video "Baking With Tourettes and My Family!!" pops up on my recommended list. I watch it with my wife and our son. For the first few minutes I'm not sure it is ok for me to laugh but then I think, "Everyone is laughing so why can't I?" We have tears running down our faces, shortness of breath, and sore cheeks as my wife and our son watch your videos until 4am. (We were going to go to bed at 2am.) lol Then I see this one as an option and I expected the worse. It is one thing to film the good ones but the bad ones... Tears ran down my cheeks again and this time because I felt helpless and every strike to yourself hurt us emotionally. I am so happy you shared this video. I think only people with Tourettes can truly know what you're going through and how much of a nightmare it can be in the bad times but I will tell you this, every video we have watched after this and will continue to watch makes us laugh very hard.
