Tifa Lockhart Head and Hair Sculpting Timelapse

Here's a timelapse video when I did the sculpting and modelling of Tifa Lockhart's head, eyeballs, eyebrows, eyelashes and the hair. This is part of a bigger project where I want to do a full body model fully textured, particle hair and all that good stuff. In this video everything is sculpted and modeled in Blender, vertex paint/polypaint done in Zbrush, and for the test renders which was done in Cycles, and composited in Photoshop. Background images used in the test renders are screenshots from Final Fantasy 7 Remake cutscenes. I wanted to create my own version of Tifa but i want the model to not deviate from the original aesthetic of Final Fantasy 7 remake. So i tried to match the proportion of the face like the one from the remake but in the end I wanted it to have my own touch i guess, so it's not just a 1-1 recreation of the original from the Remake. Current outfit is still in progress/proxy, the final outfit design will be using concept art by Adrian Meribault. If you have any feedback please just let me know. That's about it. Take it easy guys!

Fantastic job. I saw your answer that you are not selling it. I thought to try the model on my own but I know it will not look like yours at all ;). I have done that before with a different project but was able to compare that to the original and see where my model was "not correct". Such a pity it's not possible here but keep up the good work. Really curious to see the final version

Thanks man! I really appreciate it! I think if you're trying to make Tifa as well, don't try to make her exactly like the reference (unless it's your main goal). Try to put your touch in it, I think it's much more fulfilling and you can put your own creative freedom as well.

I Really feel you, with regards to the brush. Also started with blender, and the brushes in zbrush still feel weird, so I usually default to sculpting in blender.

Absolutely beautiful! I’d have to say I actually like your Tifa a bit more than the one in the game, because her face is a bit too wide in the remake, compared to this which feels a lot more sleek and natural, which I love. Are you considering doing a full body for her?

hi dude nice work there.. Would you mind to tell us about your 3D journey from the beginning? i mean like when you start it, whats your first personal project, what you did to improve your skills, and etc. You got the idea...

That would be a pretty long story man. But in short, based on your question I started in 2015 if I recall correctly. My first character project was The Flash 3d model (It was really bad) I'm learning a lot from KZfaq, online courses, books, asking pro artists for feedback and I think most importantly is practice a lot and learning from mistakes.

Thanx! Tell me please you attached the ear to the head using something like bridge in edit mode, Why did not you use boolean for example? Is it optimal way to attach the parts to each other (in edit mode)? Greate video, thank you

Nah dude.. I have a bad history with boolean, never got it to work for ears and head. It always just like joining both mesh instead of merging it.

Thanks, you mean the blocky head thing? That was a premade model from Zbrush. I didn't sculpt it.

Hey Yudit, can you explain why you handled the ear transition to the face the you way you did? Does Blender not have a dynamesh-like feature to mash two objects into one?

Blender does have somewhat like dynamesh feature. But I just didn't feel like using it. It kinda destroys a lot of small creases details if it doesn't have enough resolution.

Wich are your pc specs? Im scared to get better on blender cause i only have 8 gb ram, a ryzen 5 2600 and a RX570 4gb Is this enough to creaate so beautifull things?!!!

Yes, but you might need some more ram eventually, and will have to be mindful of render settings in the end

Depends on the complexity of the character man, every character has their own uniqueness that make them longer or shorter to create.

Umm.. I'm pretty sure somebody have it uploaded somewhere if you are looking for it. Some people sell this kind of basemesh too if you want.

The head basemesh is just a Zbrush headplanes. I imported it to Blender. The ears is my own model that I created. It isn't available anywhere. But if you want you can check out how I sculpt ears from scratch in some of my previous timelapses.

Head base? You mean like at the start of the video? I used Zbrush headplane model. It's a pretty good basemesh to start with.
