Tbf, they're probably doing these style videos as they are most likely unable to go into the office. As you need a pretty powerful computer to do animation and editing, I'm guessing they're having to restrict their animations and editing to be able to keep up with the video schedule.

Henderson has been a big loss for Sheffield United, but O'Connell is also a very important reason for their success in defense and attack.

I agree! Although a contribution not the main reason. Second season motivation, lack of a goalscorer, injuries in defence and Hendo have meant they're probably set for relegation now along with West Brom and Fulham.

Great coverage of our problem this season. We are a championship side who played out of our skins last season & overachieved. Injuries to key players, the loss of Hendo & no crowds are the 3 key reasons for our predicament this season. So glad Alex didn't drag out the lazy/boring 'they've been found out' line. Got to grab 3 points at WBA this weekend & get our season up & running. UTB!

@@benmcnutt223 we had no budget or squad for signing £50k/wk players - which would have destabilised the players on a fraction of that. It’s a bit depressing but signings were with a view to development, not immediately improving the first team. Priced out of Watkins, Cash, Antonee Robinson and others.. that said, the club’s fortunes can change again, very quickly. Wilder is the right man for the job, in any case.

well to be honest sheff united have been found out... the football they played last season wasnt amazing, they defended with 9 men behind the ball and the 2 strikers just waited on the half way line for counter attacks, dean henderson was great individually which youve lost, your strikers arent goal scorers, your team in general didnt create many chances, but defended deep behind the ball and nicked a lot of draws and 1 nils. your centre backs bringing the ball out of defense got found out also because now everyone expects it, it just leaves you vulnerable when they press the centre backs and risk you losing the ball. and yeah i admire sheff uniteds achievements last season with a championship squad but the tactics were overhyped and most games it was just a case of sheff united were just defending deep, conceding possession and hoping to nick a goal on a counter attack.

Maybe. Maybe not. Season still has a long way to go. A few tweaks here & there + a bit of luck & we have a chance of staying up. Whatever we had inside us last season is still there inside us now - we just need to find it. I have every faith in Tufty & the lads. UTB!

I really like this type of video. I always liked tifo but in the old type of videos it felt a bit rudimentary to me. I think having the direct to camera style with the iPad as a utility you can get more detailed and complex tactical information. Great stuff!

This was pretty good, as a blades fan, I’d also mention we’ve had a brutal schedule so far (for the most part) and Fleck has only just come back - we have been badly missing his midfield creativity.

Nailed it. I've watched every Sheff Utd game this season and last and you're spot on. Most of our games so far this season have seen Henderson, O'Connell, Fleck and Mousset all missing. Add to that dips in form, no fans at Bramall Lane and some tough early season fixtures and it's been a recipe for disaster. God help us.

To me, it is a combination of the lack of Dean Henderson, injuries, as well as teams managing to figure out how to beat Sheffield. Especially when it comes to the third point, this trend is often seen in promoted teams that perform well in their first 1-2 seasons and then have a huge drop in form afterwards.

Yes. For many teams the first season seems to be the easiest. If I could figure out why this is the case for some teams but not for others I would be a rich man.

As a united fan, dean henderson really waste his time and talent sitting on the bench at united. I'd rather have him loan out for another season at sheffield or another teams. And to sums it up, what sheffield united has done last season is not sustainable or it's just a fluke. When everything is fine and they're injury free, they can be a surprisingly good side but when injury hit their key players, they doesn't have the squad to sustain their performance.

xG is almost never a whole number, a penalty gives 0.8 xG (because 80% of penalties are scored) , so a penalty save would be 0.8 goals saved

Good video, I also think you could of mentioned the confidence and lack of fans aspect in the video. Sheffield’s united’s bad run of form started last season after the 3-0 win against Chelsea, it hasn’t been a direct link to O’Connell’s injury however this is obviously a massive hit. I truly think the lack of fans is a massive driver that is missing

As long as it still enjoyable, I don't mind if it's animated or 'live' style (which is significanly cheaper probably). You still learn lot's about different tactical approaches etc. Tablet view definitely helps out to understand different approaches. Maybe we just need a visible substitute bench, so that we know who the injured players been replaced with. But nonetheless - very well done video!

Like the new style video with you in it. Am a big fan of Tifo Football as well- I love tactics, formtations etc. Actually i enjoy reading and learning about them more than I liek watching games. Weird huh! Anyway, two questions please: Surely the fact that teams know how they play now is a factor? if the wide players and Norwood are being marked why don't they just go over the top of them?

Besides Henderson and the lack of crowd to push the team, I think Sheffield ‘triggered’ most of the teams from last season. Relentless pressing, overlapping center backs to cause a streak of unpredictability... only problem is that once teams see the means of your play, they can always counter play. Wilder got to find a new balance or gear to keep being spontaneous, but committed to the tactics.

We massively overpaid for McBurnie and Brewster. Neither are proven in the Premier League but then again neither were Bamford and Watkins and they have hit the ground running. JOC has been a huge loss.

As a blades fan, the two reasons we’re shit now are the injury to o’connell and the lack of fans. The atmosphere at bramall lane did so much to boost us last season but obviously that’s just not there anymore

The signings they made lacked ambition, and most of the squad has underperformed massively. Considering you genuinely need around 40 point to stay up I can even see them getting 10 wins together

I think it shows how being highly specialised can be a double edged sword. On the one hand, you have the ability to exploit something no one else can, but at the same time you then become highly vulnerable to any unexpected changes

As a United fan (the original United) Henderson + the 5 defenders were every presents for over 2 years. No wonder the defence was so well drilled...they played every game using similar tactics week in week out. Now O’Connell is out injured all season, Henderson had gone back to Manchester, Stevens has changed position moving into centre defence. Last season United were narrowly winning games 1-0 and 2-1, this season they are narrowly losing games 0-1 and 1-2. Also these defeats mean the players are low on confidence. Another factor is the lack of a crowd...the Blades fans are fantastic when being the underdog giving loads of hostility to the opposition.

For all the dynamism in their attacking play...they're built on a solid defence...they weren't necessarily scoring tons of goals...but this season that defensive solidity is missing..not to mention some key players who did really well last season

They’ve not been as good this season but i wouldn’t put it past them to bounce back and finish 12/13th they’ve lost 6 out of 8 defeats by a single goal.

I feel like the difference between Ramsdale and Henderson is massively overstated. Look at every single goal conceded by Ramsdale this season and you'll honestly struggle to find any goals that he shouldn't have conceded.

That's all well and good, but there's one key question that hasn't been answered. What kit is Alex wearing? After some googling, the best I can come up with is Neuchâtel Xamax FCS because of matching sponsors but the badge is completely different. This is obviously the most important thing ever and not knowing it is easily the most distressing thing of 2020.

The problem is pretty similar with 10/11 Birmingham city regulated season. Attacking always best defense. they needed to signing more forward in this summer, Leeds united did it. too many british players in team squad, players can't creative chance and goals. Sheffield and Blackburn Rovers have a same problem, need to be change.

As a Sheffield United fan and as an analyst of the game i can say that some of the explanations and presentations in this video are wrong. Just 2 or 3 things i picked out in the first 5 minutes of the video that's wrong is: 1. We don't have our WBs on the edge of the box in attack. Our WBs either stay wide while the wide CB drifts into space inside the box between the opposition FB and CB. Or its vice versa, with the WB in the pocket inside the box between opposition FB and CB while the wide CB is out wide. In both of these sequences our wide CM acts as support when it's on their side, so we create a triangle out wide. 2. As for us pressing a lot less or differently compared to last season, that's wrong. Since coming into the Premier League we've not played with a CAM so it's been different to how we pressed in the Championship and League 1. We switched to a flat 3 in midfield since joining the PL. So what we do now is we push the wide CM forward as soon as it's with the LB or RB. This forms a 3 man press from the front, and then it's up to the rest of the team behind that 3 man press to set traps and restrict passing lanes and space. We did this last season and we have continued it this season.

I actually think Alex touched on the more important issue but too quickly. Teams are marking Norwood, Basham and the wing backs to cancel out all the overwhelming, unexpected avenues of attack. Basically what that's saying is, teams have found out Sheffield United's style of play and can put a stop to it. Pure and simple. To blame it on injuries is fair enough, but a system's true worth should not be defined by who it works for but how many it works for and how compatible it is with a number of players. That's why 4-3-3 has been so popular, it works with the styles of so many players and teams. If Sheffield United desperately needed O'Connell and maybe Henderson for that system to work, that's a flaw of the system. I know managers always prefer certain players over others, even City have struggled to cope without David Silva this season, but system limits have been what's actually limited them too. Pertaining to Sheffield United, this represents the true issue that made them hot stuff last season, and not good enough this time around - they've been found out and the flaws in their system have been exposed. Now is the true test of Chris Wilder's tactical ability - adapt and swim, or sink.

Think they’re really underestimating Ramsdale. He was brilliant at AFCB and has started well at Sheff Utd.

We don't miss Henderson we miss O'Connell massively, if him and Fleck had been fit all season we would be fine right now.

As a blade, I agree. I think the people who say the lack of Henderson is a main reason why we're performing poorly this season doesn't truly understand the team or performances. Statistically Ramsdale has been fine this season, not amazing but a mid table premier League keeper. Sure, maybe Henderson would have perhaps stopped one or two goals that have gone in but that's about it. The breakdown of the system stemming from missing O'Connell and Fleck is at the core of our poor season, followed by lack of fans

Real difference is energy and resistance capacity of their and rivals. Their tactics based on defending in a very narrow area with 11 players, overlapped full backs are only one of the details. So you must be extremly energic because you have large defenseless spaces other parts of the pitc. They have in last season and haven't got for rivals. But this year all teams are in best conditions. I think players can work much efficient than last season and it's interested with covid. They spend their times with more personal training maybe i don't know. But everybody see the high performance of the premier league teams, struggles until last minute this season. We saw the perfect matches in tv this season until now even I didn't watch my team''s any matches in Turkish league.

To be honest, I think the big problem is high expectations... And pushing/overperforming so hard last year we had a load of key injuries. We were in league 1 not so long ago, club is still catching up

It’s simple their tactics caught people out last season, after the COVID break they’ve been losing constantly. Teams have just figured them out and they don’t have the natural talent to make up for it.

A lot of people predicted that Sheffield Utd would struggle this season. They have no plan B. Suss out their 3-5-2 and you'll beat them.

At times it's not about tactics . When they came up , like many teams before who are usually discarded and everyone writes them off . They play with freedom, but they give so much in the first season that they are not left with much for the 2nd . There form was good , they got confident and signed one the players who was targeted by teams that were on the peripherals of top 6 ,Berg , then they shot themselves with Brewster . You need goals , you need a striker who need a couple of chances to get one in the net , not the upcoming one , they won't be getting many chances against too teams and I don't think the form we saw Brewster giving for Swansea will be shown here

I tell you the answer, Sheff Utd is a mid table Championship team with a great, creative coach. The board, the suporters, and the press thought that because they finished 9th they're a solid Premier League team, they're not. That's the type of thinking that creates the "second season syndrome", club directors get carried away by a mediocre team's good performances and they don't add quality to it.

It’s also the fact we’re missing the 12th man, the fans have always been behind these lads especially the old guard e.g basham who are basically worshiped by the fans, even when United are losing they would still be singing that for me is another loss for the blades
