@@Andrew-kk2ry Your view of Tiger isn't held by the majority. Tiger is a man, flaws and all. Americans, heck the world, always loves a comeback story. Tiger is a great ambassador.
@Andrew-kk2ry
@Andrew-kk2ry 3 жыл бұрын
@@gabrielcocco5188 No. He is a great attractor and a terrible ambassador. I sympathize with his flaws. As you point out, he is a man, and as one that needs no less help than him, I admire his bounce back from his family challenges. This does not, however, make him even a good ambassador. The last thing that golf needs is someone teaching young onlookers and first-timers that the game is about winning and nothing more - and that shortcomings to acceptable shots or outcomes should naturally motivate an explosion of expletives and club slamming. Likewise, they don't need to learn that at that level, you can or should ignore the many people that idolize you for some other end. People like watching Tiger PLAY - even me, believe it or not. Circa 2000-2001, it was the best golf that had been played anywhere in history. How could you not want to watch? I'll end with a comparison that is made frequently today in a number of ways: Tiger v. Phil. Tiger walks the course and sees nothing but an opportunity to some selfish end (winning, great round, whatever). Phil walks the course and doesn't fail to see and honor the value of the PEOPLE. One is a fierce competitor, arguably the best that has ever done it - an incredible attraction to the game. The other is an ambassador.
@Andrew-kk2ry
@Andrew-kk2ry 3 жыл бұрын
@@thomashopper3705 Hey, BpG. Longer reply below to Gabriel's comment. Mainly, it is this: There is a difference between being an attractor and an ambassador. My argument is that you could not hand-pick a better attractor to the game than Tiger. At the same time, you could not hand-pick a worse ambassador on tour than Tiger.

I love this man. I guess its weird to say really. To love someone who never won for me, never knew me, and was just playing a sport to make money. To be honest, Im not sure if I can fully explain it myself. But what I do know is the moments Tiger gave me and my dad. My dad was never around, but when he was it was a sunday, my dad would be watching golf and Id be right next to him. Seeing tiger win over and over again, the clutch victories, celebrating with my dad... I mean, Tiger at the end of the day, was a man that gave me some priceless moments with my father, and I love him for it.

Nah man, you got it backwards... His DAD put extremely unreasonable expectations on Tiger. No man is perfect , we all stumble one way or another, BUT we dont all have a parent living vicariously through us from the time we're in diapers! Im a father and I would NEVER hijack my sons life like Tigers dad did. Yes Tiger is rich and famous, but if you saw the documentary then you can see how unhappy that 19yo innocent Tiger Woods has become with his life. There is a right way to motivate a child and a wrong way, and Tiger is the product of a toxic parent. Love the guy to death and wish him only the best! Almost none of you can imagine how incredibly difficult his life has been despite the money and accomplishments he's earned... I'm actually in awe of his ability to stay so strong in the face of such extreme adversity!

Earl Woods died in May 2006. Since then Tiger was PGA Player of the Year in 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2013. He has won an additional five majors in an era where the players are better than ever before, simply because of Tiger's existence. He has battled career threatening injuries (there was talk he would have difficulty walking for the rest of his life) and personal demons to win a Tour Championship in 2018 and the most iconic event in existence, The Masters, in 2019. Tiger's story of redemption is so powerful, to say he "lost his way" without the context of his comeback is incredibly insulting. His newfound full embrace of his fans is charming. He's the greatest ever.
