@@ericwilsonfineart Today I attended a pastel 3 hr course with Breanna who spent 2 weeks in Buxton with you learning lucky gal. I love working in pastels it is so great for building depth with layers especially with feathers and fur. When are you coming to Vancouver Island Canada to do a course please!!! Cheers

Yes. He had a picture of a tiger on the wall in his house in Hong Kong.

Good video. I'm subscribed. Is there any chance you could please do a video where you show the reference photograph and talk through the process of blocking in (using oils) when painting animals? Alot of the time I see people painting layers that they then cover up later. How do you know what colours/tones to put down first as these are usually beneath the layers of fur you see with eye i.e the top layer? Fur is so complex and i find it hard to know what I should exactly be looking for. Many thanks and great work.

Thank you Paul. I try to match the correct colours and tones at every stage. The detail which is usually a degree lighter, just sits ontop of that. Like you said it is very complex and every bit is always different from the next bit so I would be very hesitant to prescribe any hard and fast generic rules. I will bear your comments in mind for future videos. ;)

🥇Another masterpiece!!! You mention in the video that you were drawing the background from your imagination. Is the tiger also drawn from imagination or did you use a reference photo for the tiger?

Thank you Heidi. The tiger wasn't from imagination. It was from my own reference picture. The background was just grey stone, so I changed it for something more interesting.

Good question! A bit of both really. As much wet in wet as I can do, and then other layers come along after the previous work has dried.

Very nice?..but I have noticed before also....in your painting...you do details of foreground and background same... background shouldn't have so many details I suppose?

I don't play by anybody's rules. I paint what I paint and people can decide whether they like it or not. The only thing that matters to me is if I like it. That is my only goal.
