The first drill is also good for keeping the head still due to the eyes focusing on the tees. The 2nd drill is good for relaxing the arms and hands. Brandt Snedeker says he starts the back swing with a very slight wrist break

Hi Chris. I use the first drill often now and it's certainly helped me as I was always hitting off the heel. Have tried doing the one hand drill before but can't seem to control the putter head at all - more practice needed.

Can’t believe I forgot about these drills. Poor contact explains a lot of my putting issues lately. Thanks!

Great! I've just bought a new Evn roll putter and my putting has gone down hill mainly due to the weight of it. So this drill will certainly help me. Please do more on putting. Keep up the great work.

Great content 👍 How do you fix hitting toe strikes and heal strikes on the tees? Setup issue? Path issue? Cheers 🍻

Since I saw this I started using the gate putting before rounds. Definitely think it is helping.

Chris, any tips for the 2 to 3 foot putts where you don't want the wrists too loose? I am really strugling with those putts, often they go by the hole on the right side because the face fans open. Strangely enough I do great on 10 to 20 foot putts, often making them.

An aspect that is seldom addressed when discussing putting..is how far back in relation to the distance of the putt and follow-through after the strike. Is it better to take the club back further for the longer distances? or is it better to strike the ball harder?
@alexlobeck
@alexlobeck 6 жыл бұрын
you want to keep the same rhythm for all your putts. On a longer putts, you simply just take your putter back longer and maintain the same follow through that you would have on any other putt. When you try to strike the ball harder, you are going to build more tension in your grip and usually will not have as much consistency when putting. Hope this helps and makes sense

@@alexlobeck ik i'm 4 years late but thanks this really helped. my putting has gotten so much better since i read this comment that I had to come back and say something. I was never taught that by my coach and wish i would've known early on because my putting has been godawful for 3+ years

Now someone explain this for a second, how can you say that the second put @ 2:45 was a poor strike and that is why it ended up short, when clearly the tee prevented the forward movement of the putter while u were putting....seems to me the tee was what caused that putt to go short not the strike...the drill seems to be effective in the idea that it corrects you when you swing incorrectly, but reading the ball like that is not what this drill is used for...i can hit the center of my putter fine but if i am unable to put power behind it then its going to be short all day right?

Yes absolutely!... plus tiger does this drill from about 3 ft not 20 like in this video. Also he primarily does it one-handed but switches back and forth. Your assumption is correct though. this drill is not to be judged on distance but by feel. all you're trying to do is make contact with The Sweet Spot. you can take it back inside, outside, straight back, however you want... it just assures that at the point of contact you're hitting the center of the club face. Tiger believes if you hit the center of the club face consistently you can control your distance, which helps you control your line, which will help you make more putts. But as you said the point of this drill is not to judge how far the ball goes because any Miss will have interference with the tee.

Why is everyone talking about Tiger in the past tense? He still has years left in his game and many masters yet to win!

Except Tiger did the gate drill from 3-4ft and would do it to make 50 or 100 in a row.

Also he did the gate drill one handed 12 times and then 6 times two hands.

And your point is what? Any good golfer is going to know that and adjust according to what he wants to do with his practice. What's your youtube channel so I can learn from someone who is obviously a great golfer?
@brentmoody2185

it was merely extra information to give people another way to think about doing the drill, particularly info on how to do the drill exactly as Tiger did it. It seemed relevant. Notice the person who runs this channel liked my comment. Ease up a bit. I think everything is going to be okay. I've actually considered doing a youtube channel. I have always enjoyed teaching various hobbies: skiing, guitar, financial planning. I have helped people with their golf game as well in person. I shot a 67 last year and am regularly in the 70s. There are a lot of good golfers out there who can probably do a youtube channel better than I can, but I'm glad to chip in when I think some extra info is helpful.

This is actually not the correct way tiger would do this drill it's meant to be done from exactly three to four feet and must begin with one hand then alternate between two hands and one towards the middle then end with both hands. Same thing Tiger has done since junior golf and is still doing today. He will spend a bunch of time doing this as it's always the first thing he does on the putting green he used to spend an hour doing this before rounds but admitted you can lose your lag putting if you do this too long so he'll spend about 20 minutes before he stretches it out a little bit and goes to some long putts (no tees). He'll also do some other important games such as one side of the cup only left or right as well as die putts and Hammer putts. Meaning puts that die into (barely reach) the hole and ones that are hit hard taking most the break out.

Rules of Putting: 1. The element of putting all resides in the player knowing the weight feel of his putter, whether new or old. 2. Reading greens is paramount to the overall decision to choosing your line. 3. Gravity says alot; rivers always direct the final natural lie of a ball. Lower land scapes mean balls naturally have a fraction more of hold on grass than higher land scapes (usually sea levels determine such) 4. Learn to trust your line, not your side visual check, its an optical illusion waiting for the wrong hole for a mishap. You are welcome.

I can definitely agree on the last one. I always question my line when putting because of the angle of my head. I have to remind myself to trust my line.

I like this drill. But doesn't hitting the tee peg slightly slow down the putter. THUS causing it to go a shorter distance.

demco84 jeez! Don't hit the tees! That's the whole point
@demco84

danthemanwhocancan obviously. But my point was hitting the tee would make it not go as far. His point was missing the center will make it not go as far. I disagree. I feel it goes just as far but obviously not as straight. And I love Chris's videos. They have improved my game a noticeable amount in just a few weeks.
