My mother did one of these "detox cleansing" things for months to prepare for a future knee operation. I told her that her kidneys do that fine enough since its their literal job. She, of course, believed the blogs. At least she could laugh along with me when she came back from her meeting with the doctor and got told the same thing I told her. Thnx Dr. Mike for teaching me the truth about those "Detox" potions.

And if you're needing to do heavy metal stuff regularly, you may need to check your OSHA compliance. Like, there's a KZfaq backyard chemist who does all sorts of refining of metals, including regularly cleaning/purifying/re-refining his large stash of mercury (which includes dissolving it in such a way that it would be bioavailable), and I don't think even he's had to receive chelation yet (though he did discuss it in one of his refining videos because it is part of one of the processes he used for refining his mercury). Oh, and he also plays with the mercury sometimes because he just has so much. If if you've got less effective safety protocols than him, there's something *very* wrong with your protocols.

It irks me that more effective natural medicine isn't taught to doctors or used here in the US. Valerian and Skullcap are commonly used in other countries like Japan and Germany to treat things like insomnia and anxiety instead of Rx drugs with a million possible side effects. Valerian harmful side effects? None unless you're allergic. Natural substances like that can't be patented, so nobody gets rich. So they suppress it in favor or prescription lab-made drugs.

I'm a garment technician and textile engineer, and it's crazy what I see online... like people literally have no clue about the most basic things of what they are wearing and textiles in general... e.g. a lot of people don't know that polyester and polyamide are actual plastic, or that you should urgently wash clothes before you wear them the first time, because those are not getting washed after the sewing process, so the shirt you bought was literally touch by approx. 100-200 people before you got it... And there is SO SO MUCH more... I mean, when nobody teaches you, how should you know... Sometimes I read comments under textile production videos / reels / shorts... and it's so crazy, that I don't know if I should laugh or cry. 😅 Personally, I would love to do educational content in this field, but this is a full time job and more... and of course money...

@platinum pepe the chemical aspect is another reason of cause, but the hygenic standards are totally different in the production countries so a lot of "invisible" dirt get on the clothes, and than it gets loaded in shipping containers and transported for over 6 weeks in a warm and humidity climate which is great for things like bacteria growth and mold... I heard a first-hand story where the mold got just brushed off of denim jeans at the destination, even though I don't understand how this is possible (in an ethical way especially... just like, wth!?)...

@@soothingwisdom273 Have you ever heard about the descriptive approach to grammar? Basically, you could focus on what some authority puts forward as "correct" grammar (prescriptive approach) OR you could look at how most people actually write and speak and use that as the standard of what is correct (descriptive approach.) I knew exactly what Illyssa was trying to say, and so did everybody else. I used to correct people like this, but I stopped doing it after I learned that most linguists use the descriptive approach as the gold standard. It may seem fun and harmless to correct people's grammar, but it can come off as condescending or pedantic. The prescriptive approach often fails to take into account the distinct features of different dialects as well as natural changes in a language over time. I would prefer it if fewer people corrected others' grammar in cases like this. Respectfully, Sarah M. (B.A. in Languages, Linguistics, and Comparative Literature)

The anaphylaxis one is crazy! As someone who grew up with allergies and has gone into anaphylaxis at least twice as a CHILD, I get anxious even just eating out and being around peanut products! And the first major one that was almost certainly just food (and not exercise after food) that happened after I got diagnosed and got EpiPens I was so freaked out that despite knowing how in theory to administer the EpiPen, my sister ended up having to help me do it. We were at an airport and because I wasn't a citizen of that country, the paramedics refused to do it. I seriously hope he had someone else with him, because when you're mid-anaphylaxis you're terrified and busy itching from head to toe, you're likely tearing up like crazy, your face swells. Also, I really wish that people would stop touting pseudoscience on the internet. My mum's fallen prey to them and she's all about oRgAnIc and nAtUrAl stuff. Not to say that there may not be long term effects from GMOs, but we've literally been doing the slow and unpredictable version of that probably since the beginning of civilisation. Heck, bananas, watermelons, tomatoes used to look very different and things like oranges didn't even used to exist. And most recently she's like "all carbs are bad" and "you should eat fibre then protein then carbs".

11:09 this take of yours about pharma really struck me. I was diagnosed with MS three months ago and was very quickly assigned natalizumab as my long-term treatment. And while it's arguably the best one out there, I still did a lot of research to find out what other options are or might be available someday. And all I found was more monoclonal antibodies and other types of immunomodulatory treatments, but nothing aiming to cure the disease... On the other hand, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation has been shown to be far more effective against MS than any of those long-term treatments, sometimes leading to very long-term NEDA. It's only being done on very rare occasions, even though it could probably be improved and made viable for more patients if further investigated, which sounds like the right call to me given the fact that it's the only treatment currently available which has shown some curative potential.

Just felt the need to mention, that thing where the old guy is slapping and kicking the younger guy is something from goju-ryu. The younger man is performing a Kata called Sanchin, while the older is doing Shime on him. Sanchin is an exercise performed while tensing every muscle as much as possible and going through the forms, Shime is done by the instructor to make sure the student is performing the kata correctly. Please note that both of those men are blackbelts (pretty sure I know who the older man is, but can't remember his name, if he's who I think, he's a grandmaster of Goju-Ryu) normally for less experienced students shime is only light pushes done to test and correct, at their level this sort of shime is to be expected. What you don't see when the old master goes for those nut shots is that the younger man has his legs planted very specially so that his tenders don't get tenderized. His thighs are stopping the kicks entirely. In summary, those two are very skilled practitioners of Goju-Ryu and generally just very strong men. Do *not* imitate then without *years* of training and practice with Sanchin.

Aspirin is a natural derivative. Digitalis is a natural derivative (foxglove). Penicillin is a natural derivative (penicillium mold-white stuff on rotting oranges). Opium is a natural derivative (opium poppy). My doctor put a honey-infused dressing on a deep scrape on my knee and it caused the skin to renew without scarring on a goodly half of the wound. It was a deep scrape, so I think it could only help so much. However! I accidently smashed my toe with the foot of a chair I was trying to scoot (I'm almost 200 lbs🥺), and when I cleaned the area, I smeared a bit of honey on the wound before the bandage. I am proud to say that in 2 days the wound was quite healed with little bruising and a diminished mark where the chair landed on my toe and tore skin. The scraped skin was healed, too. And honey is great in tea!

I've had people ask me why I watch Dr. Mike, but don't watch "other health experts like the ones on tiktok" My response is always I don't watch tiktok at all, and Dr. Mike makes sure that you can verify something he says is a fact and makes it clear when it's an opinion. Case in point the pharma theory.

I sincerely thank you for explaining Brownian Motion!! I knew that smaller particles got caught more easily, but didn't quite understand WHY, and nobody was ever able to explain that to me before, not even acquaintances in the medical field - they just threw me the perennial, "Uh, it's hard to explain, you wouldn't understand" 🙄...

I've explained to people before about how stopping a low grade fever with medication would prolong symptoms because the fever is helping kill the infection, and even though I have some medical knowledge I say it because it literally just makes sense and I'm glad I can now point to Dr. Mike to corroborate that.

There was a TV show in a local TV channel which tested the headphone mask (probably not the same brand but similar design). The host worn it for a few days and reported that the noise-cancelling function was so good, all you hear is the _very_ noticeable constant buzz from the running fan motor.

I agree with both of you, fellow Type 1s. Had a really cute moment at work… noticed a customer’s dexcom CGM, and said, “Is that the new dexcom7?” I wear a dexcom6, her friend had a dexcom4… we were comparing them. And then they noticed my pump. I love my tandem… one of the girls was calling her mom, asking if she could get one

I low key disagree. You only know that you have a diabetes cure when you cure diabetes with it. You can’t suppress something if you don’t know what it does. Hep C was recently cured.

11:32 as a Canadian person with CAH (congenital adrenal hyperplasia), I 1000% agree with this. Point is, we need more doctors like Mike speaking about this stuff

That kid is more prepared for an emergency than the people I almost had to lose my temper with while doing chest compressions on a customer at my last job. The 911 call was made by the least capable person possible on the property and was saved by a nearby ambulance service as how not to deal with an emergency.

I was prescribed antiobiotics countless times in my life with no culture performed....I was given antibiotics for *years* for a recurring "infection" that turned out to be plain old herpes simplex 1. All the docs I've been to had a "culture, schmulture" attitude - "if you don't start feeling better in a few days come back" was the "test" :/

Eh, I don't see it as an issue, because a doctor has to prescribe you these medications anyways, you can't just see a medication commercial, then go to the grocery store and buy it. If you ask a doctor about it, they won't prescribe it to you, if you don't need it.

There are a few medicines that do go toxic after the expiration date (as opposed to losing efficacy), this is especially true with some anti-depressants, so it's important to read the drug fact sheet they give you when you get a new Rx.
