This is the first year I am able to garden using equipment. My neighbor has been letting me use his tractor, cultivator and pto tiller. We are using composted horse manure that is 5 seasons old and has a whole mess of red worms in it and does not smell of urea. I have a lot to learn about gardening. Your videos are a big help.

Nice start of the season. Hey neighbor, we are getting some rain today, you should be getting it in a couple hours. I went yesterday to the country place and bushhoged a couple acres, man I am ready for the summer, all that snow we had this winter, I was getting cabin fever. I just had to throw that little part in there for our northern neighbors. I could have stood a little snow. But that does not happen very often here South West Louisiana.

We compost our horse manure and run it through a hammer mill and turn it into a fine powder. I wanted a way to apply it without spreading and plowing under. On my subsoiler I mounted a 12" furrower 15 inches above the tipper tooth. Now when I draw rows I use this. After I draw the rows I put 4" of the compost in the furrow and water it into the slot cut by the subsoiler. Then I plant my corn, beans, squash etc on top of the compost and cover with soil. My soil is heavy clay and my corn and beans could never develop a vigorous root system. The first year I used the "Gadget" I had corn stalks with roots almost 3 ' long and big full ears of Silver Queen. I still side dress with soda and 10-10-10 on corn and use miracle grow on tomatoes ,squash, melons etc. This is the 6th year we are planting this way except now I have built a 2 row Gadget.

Drawing rows at the end of the season allows you to get back in the garden much sooner in the spring. Rather than having to wait for the entire garden to dry before tilling all you have to do is re-hip the rows and plant.
