Gave y’all a bit of everything in this one but what do we think of the trade?

As someone from Philly who is still enduring the failed " process", this is sometimes part of the madness of rebuilds: I have always liked Hardaway and he'll likely somewhat help but I would've preferred they kept Grimes and see how it plays out. Sometimes rebuilds are darned if you do,darned if you don't.

Mavs still have a second rounder left and two firsts. Really happy to see Grimes on my team since I went to highschool with him. I think this trade allows green and maxi to be moved for another big contract player to help us win. Grimes to me when healthy seems like a polished version of what we wanted green to be.

@@_AVC_ the two firsts are moveable, and they have other swaps they could love too but they’re not very valuable so I didn’t list them. One of the firsts just became tradable out in 2030-31 because of the draft ending. Also you can’t put pizza the hut lol

@@coltondodd3086 Lol in all fairness I haven’t had the hut in a minute 😂. I did look up the picks just cuz I was curious and they can only trade the 25 pick. Can’t trade picks in consecutive seasons.

Right on. I went to TWHS about a decade prior to y'all being at College Park. I'm a mavs fan, too. So it was fun seeing that he was traded to us. I agree with the rest of your comment. Who are you hoping the mavs trade for?

My first reaction as a Pistons fan wasn't great, as it seems to help Dallas and I think they clearly won the trade (so another loss for the Pistons 😁). It's not a complete disaster though - Hardaway will help with shooting and scoring in the short-term despite his inefficiencies and the picks are a small, but nice bonus. I guess it depends on how much you rate Grimes to determine how good a trade it is. I'm not that high on him, but he could become a nice role player. I know others will see it differently, but overall I would grade it: B+ for the Mavs, C+ for Pistons.

Yeah it’s not a major move for either team in terms of the players exchanged but I think it was solid for both.

I like the move for detroit to try and stock up more draft picks and getting a vet thats capable of getting buckets which u need. After seeing them take ron holland its clear they are still taking a patient approach so I don’t really see them being threats in a weak free agency. Id still explore getting another spacing forward and another big. Tobias harris is the most obvious forward and a big id look at is jonas Valanciunas or if theres a team with a center they wanna dump and give more assets (dont know one off top my head).

Nostalgia, to which you referred here, comes from the François meaning "home pain," which also means its a word usually applied when one wants to imagine how much better things were back in "the good old days," which of course isn't always the case. Using TH jr. as an example, or especially his dad, was the NBA so much better during his dad's day? Well, back in Senior's day, the conventional wisdom was that a ball handler shouldn't attempt a crossover dribble in the face of a defender lest he get the ball taken away more times than not. Probably more than anyone else, TH sr. did more to change that standard than anyone so, is the NBA better now that ball handlers regurlarly pull off crossovers or was the league better before TH sr. challenged convention?

Even if Thj is getting some plays made for him, he really was a hit or miss, and i mean he literally can be on fire shooting 7 of 12 from 3 or he'll literally shoot 0 from 9 from 3. And he's not the same athlete after his injuries. His handles are very suspect because my god, i hated seeing Thj have the ball in transition because he certainly lost the ball from a terrible pass or he lost it because of bad handles. He tried to throw a lob once, and it hit the clock on top of the board 💀 One thing for sure that Detroit is getting is Thj ain't afraid to shooting the ball, and it's both a blessing and curse, more so a curse 😂
@_AVC_
@_AVC_ Ай бұрын
So I just went and did a bit of research because your comment made me pretty curious so thank you for bringing it up. Essentially I wanted to test the claim to see if we were ever getting THJ into any sort of rhythm through set offense. So the Mavs were the 100% percentile for isolation plays, meaning they do it the most (a little over 10% of the time). I then went and totaled up all the possessions where it’s ball handler dominated to eliminate THJ from those possible plays because as we know 3-4 guys at most handle the ball on this team. We get to about 84% of their offense. Plays where he could be used in a movement/action so think handoffs/off ball screens/etc. came up to 8% 😅. I compared that to his shot charts, he shoots over 40% from 3 when we combine all moving/fadeaway catch and shoot opportunities (22% of his attempts this year. So the rest are just wait and shoot. My conclusion, yeah nah you gotta run some sets for him 😅. Seriously though thanks for inspiring me to dive into it! Does my “study” change your perception?
@Frank-hv7xj
@Frank-hv7xj Ай бұрын
@_AVC_ Yes and No lol. I watch the Mavs, and I agree that Thj doesn't get the ball much and doesn't get that many sets made for him because Thj is honestly a low IQ player and really took his own shots away from himself. Some of us fans realized that Thj is better running around screens and etc, catch and shoot player, not just stand there and wait, but the problem is that he tends to make knuckle head decisions that result in a more difficult shot attempt or a turnover, he's always trying to do extra stuff when he should realize he's doesn't possess the talent/skill to pull such moves. He was money when he catch and shoot or pumped faked and 1 dribble into a middy, but annoyingly tried to do more like some crazy crossover or make a pass he isn't capable of doing, with the bad defense, he was rightfully benched and received less touches. So a lot of it was self-inflicted, and to be fair, head coach Kidd isn't that great scheming offense, so it's like 70/30, 30% fault on coaching decisions, and 70% on Thj for self inflicted

@@Frank-hv7xj Really got me working OT today haha! This one was pretty easy though. TO% is the stat we look at to balance opportunities to have a TO and actual turnovers. League average is 12.1% (interesting note, that number keeps dropping in the NBA and I wouldn’t have guessed that). THJ is at 6.2%. So maybe his TOs are extra gross or something but they aren’t happening at a high rate at all. Sometimes a couple ugly plays form our opinions though, and that’s why we have nerds like me 😂. So… did I change ya mind now?
@Frank-hv7xj
@Frank-hv7xj Ай бұрын
@_AVC_ this one, yes. Because I more often got annoyed when Thj turned the ball over in crucial moments that sometimes cost the team wins. Probably those few TOs put Thj not just myself but fans on their very bad list. We probably do overreact, but still, I don't believe Thj is that good, as you may believe. still solid, but more to below average player

@@Frank-hv7xj Oh yeah I don’t think he is elite. I just think he’s a good role player. That role is hitting shots. In my time coaching I’ve seen so many guys like him that it bothers me how much people misuse certain archetypes.

@@_AVC_ He is an inneficient high volume scorer that plays terrible defense. I consider him a bad player. Detroit need to put guys around Cade that can defend and hit their shots at an above league average percentage. Quentin Grimes archetype is exactly what you want around Cade, THJr is the opposite imo.
