I don't think that it is just punishing the player. There could be people in the audience who are so against what the Russians are doing and may take that out on the players or even worse. Even though the players are not at fault for the decisions made by Putin, some radicals in the audience could really do some harm and ruin the entire tournament. Never know, her playing could lead to riots. How silly. Just because some player may complain (justifiably or unjustifiably) about being mistreated by an umpire because of their race or ethnicity, or some corrupt politican or organization may use what that particular player said to push for division or violence; that doesn't mean a tournament should blacklist all players of that particular race or ethnicity. Only a very myopic mind would apply such irrational logic to such a matter.

Disagree. The politician who banned Novak was wrong but the players knew the risks of not being vaccinated and so a boycott would have been absurd. A medical exemption is never a guarantee you will be able to enter a country. As it stands Novak still cannot enter the USA.

Mac has got this completely wrong. Russian propaganda prevents the people from being aware of the scale and global reaction to the war. Had Ukraine been in NATO Russian citizens in all NATO countries would probably be forcibly detained until the war finished. I'm sure Germans and Italians were sent to internment camps in Britain during WW2.

They should use the formula when Wimbledon was cancelled a couple of years ago. Keep the points from last year or a percentage of the points on the rankings. Right now, with all of this Medvedev will be back at #1 after Wimbledon.

Comparing Aus Open to Wimbledon are two different things. Some of the Ukrainian tennis players had no choice, they had to go to fight for their mother country, brothers & sisters. Some of their athleets are in the trenches right now, or had been killed by Russians.

@@Straightforward786 Well the atp rankings follows a points defense based system, so players don't necessarily have to be awarded "free points", but instead be guaranteed defense of their existing Wimbledon points from previously.
