Love to see it! FWIW our newer ATAC XC pedals have adjustable tension. Woot!

Indeed, the cleats ought to be more affordable, and - yes, they do wear out faster that Shimano's. Still, fifty times less fast than the rubbish cleats of the Eggbeaters' I used through the first 10-15 days of My Amsterdam-Delphi bicycle tour July of 2010 before they wore out. The strongest suit of the Time Atac system is the tactility. Clipping in and out of the system is a tactile delight. The problem is, at least, with the Time Atac XS Titanium-Carbon version I have - they started clicking after a few months of use. Only yesterday, years later, I got to disassemble them and change the ball bearings. I'm yet to test the new ones; I hope, they'll stop producing the stupid clicking noise when riding.

These pedals are great. I have 5 or 6 sets! I find them used. The older ones have the best bearings. These pedals work the best in mud. The only negative is brass cleats wear out faster. I replace cleats 1-2 times a year. About $20 a set.

I have one pair of the classic Time ATAC. Do you know what bearing they take?
@rollinrat48503 жыл бұрын
@@paulantosh5501 Not off the top of my head. All cartridge bearings have ID on the seals. Use a Magnifying glass. Old Times are really easy to take apart. I seem to recall the left pedal is reverse threaded. I can't remember. So be careful. Dont get medieval with the wrenches! You will need snap ring pliers to remove the bearings along with a deep socket and a good vise really helps. Hammers and punches are no bueno for installing nice bearings. They also use a needle bearing for an outer bearing on the old ones. Ive never replaced them on any of mine and I don't take very good care of mine. I overhaul them when they get rough or develop a little play.

have you tried spd M520 beforehand before switching to time ATAC?

Hi Zach or anyone else who has any suggestions. I ride a fixed gear bike with a front break so I don't only rely on skidding. But I still enjoy skidding and use it to slow down. I recently purchased Dzr Marco shoes installed brand new Time Atac Cleats and use Time Atac Mx4 pedals. I have unintentional unclipping when I pull up for a skid or skid hop sometimes. I cut some of the excess pedal platform with a Dremel tool and this improved the clearance and secureness when clipped. But I still can't skid freely since I don't fully trust it. Anyone have any tips or suggestions? Perhaps the Time Atac Mx4 don't have strong enough springs as required for my type of usage? Thanks in advance for your input or tips.

So do you personally ride with the 13 or 17 degree release for fixed riding? I've only recently made the switch from SPD to Time a couple weeks ago on my road bike, and I'm getting used to having float, and I will soon be giving them a try fixed. I've been riding fixed for about 7 years, mostly with straps, and just a little with SPD, but I was too worried about the accidental unclip while back-pedaling with the SPDs.

This model of pedal seems to no longer be available. Which version of time atac pedals would you recommend?

Zach , did you tested the 10deg easy cleats version please? ( brakeless I mean)

Great vids. how about doing a topic on chafing when doing long bike ride. Ways to prevent. such as chamois creme, saddle choice, and cycling bib shorts.

So often do you unclip on brakeless fixed with dull cleats? This keeps happening to me with SPD and I just want a whole new pedals system rather than getting new cleats. I'm thinking speedplay too.
@xXSNipErMonkEy1414Xx8 жыл бұрын
speed play has a ton of float if that's your thing, they're a solid pedal system my buddy has speed plays on his fixed gear, Just got some time atacs x5's?. I need new cleats though I bombed a hill(brakeless) and my right shoes unclipped when I tried to skid I got thrown off my saddle for a sec and caught myself with my leg. Could've gon so much worst haha

love your videos. Would you be interested in doing a video on solid tires? I recently switched to solid tannus tires and am wondering if i made a mistake. Other review videos online definitely understate how uncomfortable they are. I'm wondering what you would think of them.

I have Time ATAC pedals on my Greek road bike. Sorry! It's not a fixed gear. In the United States, I use road pedals on my road bikes, but I decided I better have walkable bike shoes in Greece. The right ATAC pedal is great. The left pedal seems stiffer when getting clipped in. I often have to back pedal to get the left one clipped in. If there were a tension adjustment, I might be able to fix this problem, or perhaps it will go away as the cleats get worn. In Greece, the Time ATAC pedals seem to be the go-to option for mountain bike pedals rather than Shimano SPDs.

Seems like pedal wear is a consistent problem with TIME cleats.

@SixTwenty2 I have the same style TIME ATAC MTB pedals (my model is World Champion MTB CX). I bought them on eBay. I have used TIME pedals for about 30 years now on my 3 bikes. When I replace the bike, I just move the pedals onto the new bike! I have never had to maintain my pedals, but recently did some very wet (submerged) CX riding and one of the pedals on that bike is really stiff to rotate on it's axle. So I need to open it up and clean it out and maybe replace the bearing. Mine must be slightly newer than the ones in this video because they have an aluminum cap that screws off the crank end. Once I have done that, I can't see how to proceed further to remove the axle. Did you ever get more information on maintenance? Thanks!

@@grahamspencer903 A few years ago I actually found JPEGs of instructions on how to disassemble and service. Unfortunately, not the model you are referring too, however once you take of the metal piece off with pliers (i used snap ring pliers in the holes) its basically the same. sorry cant share the jpegs on YT.

automatic? You probably mean "preset" or "unchangeable". There is no automatic at all...
