What kept us enthralled about the show was the hunt for buried treasure mentality. Very addicting.

@@biteme0973 Hi, Kevin; thanks for expressing what I was feeling, but trying to deny, telling myself, "Oh, yay! Time Team's back." I expected to feel excited and happy, but it was hard to feel anything but sadness that favorite characters weren't there anymore. The lure of the finds, and eventual summing up was only half the attraction; the camaraderie and personality interactions was the other. When I discovered Time Team last year, I was intrigued primarily by the format and whole process of the digs. I kept thinking, "What a great show; if only they could have gotten a less annoying presenter!" And now I absolutely ADORE Sir Tony! He and Phil are (were) such a pair! As the upcoming team members were listed, there was satisfaction and relief in seeing each familiar face, and a little apprehension in seeing some of the new ones. (I couldn't help but cringe when they introduced the "classicist and comedienne" of the team; (I mean, wtf?!). But then they announced Neil Holbrook as the Archaeological Supervisor, and I was actually happy! From the moment I first heard the man speak, I couldn't stand him, but over the months, he has "grown on me", and now I adore him, because his over-the-top enthusiasm is actually genuine! (Which is what I loved most about Tony and Phil.) I want to be resilient and accept that times and people change, so I imagined all my absentee favorites gathered 'round me, saying they hope I continue to watch the program/project they poured their lives' time and talent into for so many years. Silly, but it made me feel better.

ole phil is getting on now ..maybe a cameo every now and then ..as for tony hes a luvvy booked with work ..shame but not a deal breaker ..

@@rogerw5299 Or in a role similar to Mick's old one, where they are there to help explain the context and history, as well as guide the decisions made onsite for trench locations & sizes, but not getting their hands dirty anymore.

As good as it would be to see Phil, I don't think he'd be a good fit for Tony's role. Tony played the part of the baffled layman, asking questions on our behalf that an expert like Phil could never believably pull off. And while Phil KNEW the context of what he dug, he was fundamentally "just" a digger, not like the professorial Mick. Phil said it again and again... just tell him where to dig a hole, and he'll be happy, even when he literally finds nothing.

Phil's back and knees and finger joints show the wear and tear of nigh on half a century of digging. The man's more than earned his semi retirement.

Oh no! He was a great guy.

I hope whoever the new artist is always includes dogs like Victor did. If would be a nice way to keep in him mind

@@365daywalker It seemed like he "rescued" many an archaeological quest: he came up with plausible explanations for Hooke Court and Thetford School when the results were different from what was expected.

Phil should take over Mick's overseer role rather than busting his guts with the shovel and pickaxe. It won't be the same without him!

Haven't you marveled at Phil over the years? He's been a force of nature. I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did in those trenches, but I too hope that he stays involved. His presence would be missed.

I've often wondered if another crew of archeologists took over after taping ended or if they just restored the sites and planted daisies over them.

@@feliciapate7926 Unlikely anyone took over straight away so they would have had to return most sites to previous condition for farming purposes. But they would have recorded and wrote up reports of all findings, leaving the next dig team plenty of information before they get started.

I hope they also bring back Raksha! She was always one of my favorite team members!

She's had a bit of presenting experience now - could be another way to get her back on the show if she doesn't want to dig 😉 And since she's going to be involved anyway, Suzannah Lipscomb has also presented more than a few programmes if they need any ideas 😂 but I'm sure they'll choose someone who will do a great job

Guy is having a break from Roman history. He is currently writing a book and thesis on Ancient Egypt which he was going to do many years ago. He will do some more work on the Romans but not in the next few years.

He is one of my favorites (I even bought one of his books - if you had said I'd be interested in Roman history before Time Team, I would have laughed!). It's a pity he won't be there for the Roman dig.

Have to admit I had a bit of a pride cry in playing a small part in this. I am but a novice lurker to the world of archeology, but my interest in the history of Humans as a whole Time Team presents is always piqued!

As soon as Tim mentioned Victor's name, I instantly teared up. Sob.

I'm not that interested in the prehistoric stuff, but Victor's artwork made it watchable - I learned so much from his visuals.

Even if they had Phil just wandering between the trenches giving sage advice and occasionally grumbling about non-perpendicular trench sides it would be great.

Brigid was basically the reason for me to watch Time Team as a teenager... between the tight jeans, tiny crop tops, back-to-front hard hat, and the furious way she swung her pickaxe and shovel... I was, and to some extent remain at thirty, ever so slightly infatuated with her...
