For over 40 years the Libyan despot terrified, tortured and tricked the world with one horrific act after another. This is the story of Colonel Gaddafi, the Middle East's longest serving dictator from his roots as an idealistic young revolutionary in 1969, to becoming one of the world's most deadly terrorists.

I’m Libyan and I can assure you that most people who used to hate Gaddafi back then now wish that he never died. The situation in Libya has plummeted since 2011. I’m literally writing this comment while the electricity is cut, and just yesterday there were huge protests all over the country against the corrupted politicians ,militias and war lords (which most of them are backed by western and foreign countries) ,because of the very bad conditions that we have reached since the revolution. Even in the elections that was set up to be in December of last year, Muammer Gaddafi’s son Saif had by far the largest popularity among people. This is why the elections were delayed to June of this year and eventually never happened. It saddens me when people who don’t know anything about my country use their privilege to spread lies and misinformation just to feel good about themselves and their governments.

And this all ended when YOU so called west freedom etc bombed it and made us live like 3rd citizens so would like to say thank you for your FREEDOM, just remember while your getting taxed 😂 the governments in the world are meant to serve you not the other way around

I’ll be honest, as an African I was told a different story bout Qaddafi. Yes, he was a cruel dictator, but he did develop his country to be self sufficient. He stopped the Arab slave trade which has since risen up again and he sponsored numerous amounts of developmental projects across the continent. I don’t hear western media say much about that.

I visited Libya 6 months before the civil war started. I assure you, it was not the paradise you seem to believe it to have been. If you lived in Tripoli your daughters would always fear being kidnapped by Gaddafi's henchmen and raped and you could do nothing about it. If you had a successful business that was earning you a lot of money there was always the danger of one of Gaddafi's crazy sons taking it away from you and you didn't dare complain about it. If you had a nice car, one of Gaddafi's henchmen could just take it from you. The Libyans hated Gaddafi so much that he had the roads cleared of people when driving through Tripoli.

Paper money can become completely worthless...gold prices may fluctuate but gold always has value because it has many industrial uses. Most of the world would like to be out from under the petrodollar system. It's really only good for the big bankers.

Despite all the bad things. He did many great things for his people. Free power, interest free loans if you opened a business, free cash if you have children, tried to bring water to Africa via the largest man made river, tried to create a gold based currency to counter the USA petrol dollar (global currency), had control over extremism within the Middle East. He controlled with an iron fist, which is what’s needed within these geopolitical landscapes. It’s a great shame that he decided to meddle in international affairs, as he might still be alive, and Libya would be in great places. Now Libya has lower GDP than during his reign and extremism has proliferated. I don’t support his bad acts, however I admire his good acts. Edit: spelling.

By "before", do you mean before Feb 2011 or the time between Feb - Oct 2013? There is an important distinction you have to make there. Because in the first case, it's not fair to compare the situation before Feb 2011 with now since the military intervention didn't take place then, when he was not killing thousands of people within a short period of time. As for the second case, I personally argue now is much better, and I would blame Gaddafi for the problem the country is still facing, not the people that stopped him when he was killing scores of people. If he hadn't done that, there was no need for military intervention in the first place. You don't expect anyone who values human dignity to sit and watch forever while he keeps killing and torturing his people on such a large scale. After a military intervention, there are three possible outcomes: the situation will get better like in the Balkans or other places in the world, stays the same, or gets worse. But before the military intervention, there were only two options: either to sit and watch as many helpless people die or, after attempting to stop the bloodshed peacefully for months (while people die btw), try to stop it militarily to create a chance for the situation to get better (at least stopping thousands of people from dying). If there is anybody to blame here it's Gaddafi. Have you ever asked yourself why no one (including China and Russia) opposed when the resolution was passed to impose a no-fly zone after many attempts to stop the bloodshed peacefully, why Russia voted in favor to remove Libya from the UN human rights council at the time, and why a number of his generals, government officials, and even members of his own royal family defected/resigned despite the risks to themselves or their loved ones? the answer is not that complicated if you consider yourself a reasonable person.

@Molt People who demonstrated against him had their own ulterior motive. Most were Islamists (Ansar al-Sharia or Muslim Brotherhood). Some had links to al-Qaeda (LIFG led by Abdelhakim Belhadj). The militias that captured and killed him were from Misrata. Misrata is not only a hot bed for political Islam, but many Misratans had Turkish ancestry dating back to the Ottoman era (including both UN puppet Fayez al-Sarraj and Fathi Bashagha). It's no surprise that Erdogan has been helping Misratans dominate Libyan politics in Tripolitania. It's all part of the neo-Ottoman agenda.

And at the same time China has become a powerful nation. A global pandemic and countries on the brink of bankruptcy. Global warming and a possible second Depression on the way. Growing up in the 90's in relative peace and prosperity for my first twenty years of life and the next twenty of war and a poor economy has been interesting say the least. @UAE Emirates obviously. For all the demonizing the Western propaganda machine has done against Putin he pales in comparison to the states sponsored terrorism that the US and the EU have backed over the many decades that Putin has been threatened by the E.U. although Putin of course is not an innocent man either because he is merely a sociopathic former KGB Agent who continually kills and poisons his critics over the years... and that's what we seem to know about in public. I Can Only Imagine what goes on behind closed doors at the Kremlin as far as keeping the Russian leader safe or abiding by one of his sadistic rules. It's actually pretty interesting if you look at the comparison of Russia and the United States in the sense of imperialism because there isn't a huge amount of difference in that category between the two countries or political ideologies; Putin wants to regain the Russian Empire as it was during the times of Stalin however he's going about it in a way that is just ruthlessly dumb but the US isn't of course immune to getting involved in places like Iraq and Afghanistan trying to control the flow of oil either for the sake of money. So, in conclusion if you look at the history of both countries objectively, it seems like neither are innocent in anything they do and you can blame Western propaganda but Putin isn't an innocent man in any of this either and Ukraine is a prime example of that. You could argue that he was responding to the EU's constant threats over the last few decades but the reality is that he's wanted to do that for a long time as he doesn't view Ukraine as it's own separate entity anyway.

That may well be true that it is better in Libya for the people now, but that does not excuse his murderous regime. A lot of people are "better off" with crooked regimes including in Western societies. It doesn't make it right. Whenever some people are better off at the expense of others it cannot be right, regardless of anything else. godspeed to us all though, considering most [people look out for number 1 and turn a blind eye to how they get where they are - and once there, they "group-think" and their morality takes a back seat. We are all guilty of it and can only change ourselves.

why do the biggest criminal thieves in the world live in UK after they committed their crimes against their people and humanity in general, they support the criminals all around the world to steal their countries and keep chaos then bring the stolen money to their banks ! unstable countries means keeping looting them. where did the trillions all around the world go ? vanished ? for instance Africa is full of natural resources, where did all the stolen revenue go ! in UK they even do not care about industry, except military industries "to kill humans"! they rely on stealing weak countries and spreading chaos and taxes on simple people, exactly like a curse on mankind, without the curse, mankind would be able to reach other galaxies right now. they get used being a curse on mankind ! they call the destructive irrational meanness politics ! that is why they will never be able to build human civilization even after millions of years, the only thing they can do is stay as a curse on mankind as they did for hundreds of years. the real nomads do not differentiate between the pride of mankind which is "both humanity and intelligence" and the destructive irrational meanness the irrationals call it "politics" ! the curse promised human to build a civilization for them !
