Good post to your 1987 Camry Timing Belt Replacement jobs, Camry is one of the BEST car in the market. I have 1988 Camry with me and still running everyday... Have a nice long weekend 0525.2024.LA

I'm at 12 mins in this video on my 89 camry. The motor mount on mine is different. I jacked the engine up to clear the studs. It worked.

@builditgarage this one is manual trans. That side top mount on mine looks more like a mount that would normally be on on the back and bottom on a newer Toyota

Hey! Im in the process of doing this repair myself, and I have a couple of questions. 1. is there a specific number of teeth between the cam and crank pullies on the belt? if not, is there a surefire way to tension it correctly when putting the new belt on? 2. is the harmonic balancer pulley bolt reverse threaded or normally threaded? Ive had the worst time trying to get it off using both a breaker bar and an impact with no luck.

1. I didn't count the number of teeth between them. You just have to make sure it is tight in the direction I showed. The problem with counting is that both sides go around other pulleys and go down between the frame rail. Sorry I don't have a good answer for this one. Look at 15:49 to get a good shot of the crack pulley location. Then look at 18:20 for where I describe the CAM rotational location. 2. The balancer pulley is normally threaded. I just time 12:38 and saw that I pushed the direction button in on the left side. Looking at the impact wrench that is the reverse to remove the bolt. If you look at 12:40 you can see my thumb pushing in on the left side. Does someone you know have a different/bigger impact. The problem with a breaker bar is that the torque converter allows the engine to spin. You would have to pry against the starter flywheel teeth to hold it still. So that would require removing the starter or a dust cover to access them.
