A quick fix to the timing chain noise in the bike. Fabricated a small spacer to increase the spring tension in the cam/timing chain tensioner unit.
Here in india we dont get the spring as a separate component . One has to buy the whole timing chain assembly which is quite expensive . This idea serves as an easy alternative .

This is helpful, thanks! I have a slight "rattle", only under acceleration, in my Classic 350. But I'm reasonably certain the valves need to be adjusted (bike is new / under 300 miles / in its run-in period). Will check this tensioner today, and valves will be checked / adjusted at 300 miles, as per RE.

Curious, how did things go? I just bought a classic 350 and it has a bit of a rattle after heating up, still under 300 miles, hasn't had its first service yet.

is the spacer advisable on long rides or high RPM? Or am i damaging my timing chain more with the spacer?
@marcocalilung4511
@marcocalilung4511 3 жыл бұрын
Can i do this without prior checking on the whole tensioner? Just so you know i did what you did and it became a whole lot SILENT but i'm kinda worried if im putting too much tension to the extent im damaging the timing chain? Keep in mind mine just ran about 4,000km and the reason i followed your video is that I am bothered with the noise it is making on the left side of the engine which is more likely the timing chain noise.
@ONTWOWHEELSBEN
@ONTWOWHEELSBEN 3 жыл бұрын
@@marcocalilung4511 there is a way you can determine the additional pressure being applied. Look for the no of grooves / notches that are sticking out on the ratchet rod before you insert a spacer . And then insert spacer and put the tensioner back and go for a nice quick ride ( high rpm’s included) . Now open the unit and count the additional notches that are sticking out . 1-2 notches more is nothing for you to worry about . Ideal is 1 . If it is 2 then ride the bike in a soft manner for atleast 100 kms ( just a guess) or more so that things align gradually.
@ONTWOWHEELSBEN
@ONTWOWHEELSBEN 3 жыл бұрын
Also this is an alternative if you cannot procure a new spring but have to buy a whole new tensioner unit . Also the right spacer compensates for loss in spring pressure ( compared to a new one ) .

Hello Ben, I have 2022 BS6 HIMALAYAN. The problem is that since 500km on the meter I'm getting a very mild 'tik tik' noise form the left side of the engine. This increases with increase in heat as well as kms that i cover in the vehicle in one stretch. I took it to the service centre and they are claiming it's normal which I'm sure is not. Upon my research I found that this is an issue with either the timing chain or the tensioner. Can you suggest me a way/solution to this?

i was getting knocking sound for past couple of months, the mechanic couldnt figure out what the reason was, last week i took my himalayan for a checkup for the knocking issue, he opened up the engine and we found out that one of the rocker arms has become loose. Could this be the reason for knocking sound ? please help
