I love Albany. I moved there from Atlanta for a job. I fell in love with Albany. Shoutout to the East Side. Jazmin Bakery is a fantastic restaurant. Had good times at Osteria while it was open. Temp Coffee and Cornerstone Coffee were havens. Marsh Landing is an awesome residential community right there on the water. The Moose Lodge always had something going on. The country club in Albany is really nice. The Hilton Garden Inn in front of the Ray Charles plaza is the top choice for a hotel in the city. You could get really nice clothes and shoes from Iveys. The new Italian place Biancas is a great new addition. They also have the club and the late night food spot right next to it. The downtown area Pine Ave is really pictureesque. Parts of Albany are breathtaking. Parts of Radium Springs are beautiful. This is a city for those who enjoy a slower place of living, love being in nature. The university in the city Albany State University is a great HBCU with students from all over the country. The YMCA in Albany is also super solid. Shout out to Wingbox and Seafood Co on Ledo, amazing food. The nail salon there Enchanted Nails is also fantastic. They just put a new Aldi's up in the city too. Shout out to the Publix in Leesberg, GA and the Chick Fil A there. They have a pristine AMC Classic theatre and they even have a airport in the city to fly to anywhere. I even got a chance to see some really dope shows at the J Lane Theater. I also saw Lil Durk ( a major rapper ) perform there in July 2021. Ginuwine the R&B legend was just there. The Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany also brings a lot of folks in and is a terrific place to work!

Some of my family lives in Albany, GA. It's a challenging place to live. At 19, eager to be independent, I left my mom's house and stayed with my aunt there for a few months. However, after just two months, I struggled to secure a decent job, it wasn’t much to do, so I returned to Florida.

One thing that fascinates me about Albany is in the last year the only thing they have built is a car wash place on every street corner. They've also put speeding cameras in every school zone. It's like all they care about is the kind of car you drive.

Shackleford was a bowling center in the 60's and '70s. Dad worked there for a while. Many of the abandoned houses downtown are owned by Phoebe Putney. They bought up beautiful, older homes and let them rot. Albany is a sad shell of what it used to be.

I grew up there in the 60s and early 70s, I loved it there! Was born and raised there! Left in 74 after my mom passed and moved to Maryland, always thought of my home state and have some great memories! Also have been looking for ppl I grew up with! It was safe to play late outside, I grew up on 223 first avenue! Always wondered what happened to all the old places like the Hasty house restaurant,the corner store, church on the corner of Jackson avenue and my old school mamie Bronson, course probably spelled it wrong LoL! Do remember the funeral home and what use to be a old haunted house next to the corner store! Lots of stuff! Especially radium springs! Use to go swimming there when I was little,it was great and good beach music like the Archies! Etc my brother would take me,speedy was his nickname LoL! Anyway I hope to see more pictures and stories! 😊

This video is very deceiving. I do live in Albany and have all my life for 52 years. This is what’s typical in any city that is demographically, uneven and crime is high with no police force that will enforce any crimes and incompetent city leaders that have no clue how to run a city. Because the video is just going down a few streets of one portion of our city, he chose to go to the worst most run down neighborhoods. We have 55 mi.² of city and I’m just guessing he showed only about 25%. If he was to put a GoPro up when he was traveling to his hotel that is near the mall, there’s another whole side of town that has businesses, restaurants, shopping malls, housing , apartments, etc. So like others have said this is a cultural problem that’s a combination of city leaders not interested in doing right by their citizens and then citizens not wanting to do better for themselves that stay in that cycle of poverty life.

It would take the city having a better economy. Most people like myself leave Albany, because of the lack of resources. The sad part is most of us become very successful in other cities and contribute to the growth of cities that we are not even from. I know several people from Albany that stay in Atlanta that are very well off, but they had to leave Albany to get the opportunity. Albany produce go getters everyday based on how you grow up in that city.

Unless you work at p and g or the hospital most of the jobs here are low paying jobs. Jacksonville Fl is nothing compared to an Albany Georgia. Albany is dead and depressing just like a lot of places in Georgia. I think most ppl judge Jacksonville because they’ve only visited the west side or maybe the Northside. Jacksonville is big. I moved to Savannah GA and stayed for a year and a half, broke my lease and headed back to Florida. There is nothing to do in those towns in Georgia. That’s why everyone moves to Atlanta. The sun, the palm trees, and the beaches alone puts Jacksonville in a different category.

My mom and I moved to Albany from West Palm Beach, Florida a few years ago. Though there are bad areas here, there are many good ones that you missed. I do think it has tons of potential and seems to be bouncing back. This city just needs a little help to give it more life. I WILL complain about the utilities here though. I blame Albany utilities for the poverty by itself 😅😂. The town needs to seriously tackle that first.

"West Palm Beach and Albany are distinctly different cities. While Albany does have some better areas, it's evident that the overall condition of the city leaves much to be desired. It's not unique to Albany; many prosperous metropolitan areas engage in revitalization and gentrification efforts, including Palm Beach. I wholeheartedly agree that with the collective efforts of like-minded business owners in Albany, there's tremendous potential to transform it into a thriving Black city. Thank you for bringing this perspective to light."

@@TIMJMEANSBUSINESS I never stated those two cities were the same. You did only show bad areas though, which people who don’t know the area will see, and steer them away from making the town thrive and be better. @@briannaa321ify In Melbourne, you won't come across the kind of impoverished and run-down communities that I've witnessed in Albany. This difference is a result of people like me working diligently to uplift and support the well-being of black and brown citizens in our community. Its individuals and business owners like myself who swiftly acquire these properties, renovate them, and then either sell them for profit or list them on Airbnb. In my city, even the lower-income areas have undergone significant improvements. However, I do value your perspective. I can see where you're coming from. This isn't a true picture of Albany. There are beautiful parts of Albany, we have The Albany Symphony, an very active community theater that showcases plays for over a half century, THE River Aquarium . Albany also has 2nd largest hospital in the state of Georgia and the downtown has won NATIONAL awards for revatilation. And the average income is $39,500 NOT $20,000+ and yes, I can back that up with verified info.

My information comes from your state government. In Albany, GA, the per capita income stands at $23,824, while the median household income is $40,036. Out of the population of 67.2k individuals for whom poverty status is determined, 19.1k people live below the poverty line. I'm not suggesting that Albany is an undesirable place to live. However, it's undeniable that the city's appearance, marked by numerous abandoned buildings, even in the downtown area is concerning. While Albany boasts a rich cultural heritage stemming from the civil rights movement and is home to many admirable black (Israelite) residents and pleasant areas, there's a pressing need for like-minded businesspeople to collaborate and revitalize the city. With collective effort, Albany can undergo positive transformation. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

If you were to come drive through any part of my city or neighborhoods, you wouldn't come across any abandoned homes or buildings. That's in the hood as well. Unfortunately, it's evident that the city government is falling short in realizing Albany's true potential. It's high time for all the genuine black leaders and business professionals to unite and embark on the journey of rebuilding and revitalizing Albany GA.

Hey Sir, you are coming into the city to looking through the window panes of the city, the things you record are mostly old historic houses that have been owned by generational AFRICAN Americans for decades the renovation cost of these historic homes is astronomical most can not afford it. So keep your pity for some other city you can't grow if the people who run the city keep being so cheap and closed-minded. So actually the city deserves better respect than it actually is tourists and agriculture and urban historic African American culture city so poor is for third world underdeveloped countries so upliftment is wanted not further verbal degradation now peace it much respect all love to thank you great podcast channel you have.

"It's not only the narrow-minded individuals running the city; business owners within the community can collaborate and contribute to its development. As I mentioned previously, if you want to draw attention to Albany's challenges, one way is by highlighting its physical state. If you're worried about the city's image, you can form a collective of like-minded individuals dedicated to enhancing it. Combine resources to acquire and revamp vacant properties, giving them a fresh lease on life. I have a genuine fondness for Albany, and I believe it has the potential to evolve into Georgia's next thriving urban center, as long as everyone joins forces and works together as a united team to revitalize it. You don't have to share the same viewpoint. The statistics are derived from data provided by your own city and state government, and they undeniably indicate a decline. My city faces its own set of challenges, but there are individuals like me who actively engage with the community to address these issues. They share the same concerns but opt for inaction. As I mentioned to another person, how can I negatively portray Albany by simply showcasing its physical condition? If you're concerned about how others perceive your city, consider assembling a team of like-minded individuals who are committed to its improvement. Pool resources to acquire and renovate abandoned homes and buildings, breathing new life into them. I used to visit Albany during my summers when I was younger, and my father still resides there.

How can I make a city look bad by showcasing its physical state? The city has portrayed its situation on its own. Come take a tour of my city, and no matter which path you choose, you won't encounter any abandoned buildings or homes. I'm only stating the facts. I have relatives who live in Albany, and I have cherished memories of visiting when I was younger. Nevertheless, it's clear that the city's inhabitants must come together and initiate its resurgence. Albany holds great potential, and it merely necessitates the collaboration of the right individuals to usher in a brighter future.

Which city do you live where there are no abandoned homes ?
@Stephen-xy4zb
@Stephen-xy4zb 4 ай бұрын
I had and have friends who live there. Some of them realize now the reason I called it part of the empty east coast. Geography has more to do with it than than you realize. Not to say there not trying but imagine why no one builds the homes on Mississippi flood eventually the government won’t support the effort anymore I saw that happen when I was a child. And you can’t blame them for it because the people anywhere near start to demand they pull out because rates on everything go up around them except them. Insurance, food, power, medical care ect. The empty east coast is best use is agriculture and jobs and. Business that supports agriculture. Why they don’t grow cotton and have textile industry baffles everyone that knows this even adding hemp and flax. Textiles would put it to a recovery till a natural disaster strikes and that’s would be often. Then there’s the poverty problem and the current drug crisis that’s driving much of the population out its lost it’s diversity so they can’t show how well they get along with each other. And that has an effect on the city’s out side the empty east coast region that puts even more strain on them. Is Albany going to keep trying to grow at the exspence they put on others. If Albany could roll back to what they were in their hay day they would be better off.

We all know the truth. But can this be fixed? Yes! It only takes like-minded Black leaders and businesspeople coming together to buy up those abandoned buildings and create more jobs for the community. Sitting and complaining about what your city looks like or who came and filmed it won’t change anything. If you don’t like it, do something about it. Go to city hall and raise hell. Keep pressuring the mayor until something gets done. Or start an organization and begin fixing up Albany. That’s what I would do. I’ve been asked to come and help, and I might just do that. Albany has a rich history and is home to some great people. Stop looking for corporate america to come help and build a team of successful black men and women and take back your city. While every city has its share of impoverished neighborhoods, it's essential to emphasize that Fort Lauderdale bears no resemblance to Albany, not even in the slightest. However, one stark contrast you won't encounter in Melbourne or Fort Lauderdale is the prevalence of abandoned homes and buildings, as I've observed in Albany. It's individuals like myself who would swiftly acquire these properties, renovate them, and either sell them for profit or list them on Airbnb.

And sadly, there is no reasoning with our city officials. As everything else in this world, they are backwards on wanting to do something smart and choose wrong decisions in the priorities that need to be made. Resurfacing an alley instead of code enforcement doing their job. Putting up speed cameras in school zones that schools are not even in existence any more. A police chief that says every thing is fine in our city, that crime is not a problem. Just a few examples of how we have no hope of ever building back. The flood of 1994 wiped out a lot and there was never a proper way of building back after that. Just typical political government issues that never get resolved

Oh I absolutely agree of what you’re saying about Albany having buildings and housing, etc. literally falling to pieces and abandoning to the point of heartbreak. It’s the nature of the beast that all cities are going to have that one section of town like that. But you should be honest with us viewers that you should at least verbally say something in the video that there is all other sorts of other areas in Albany that are thriving with restaurants, businesses, shopping, housing , apartments, etc. Just seems like you would do that anyway instead of being called out by ones that actually live the everyday life in the town you showcase. As I mentioned, 52 years I have lived in Albany and I have lived and worked on the south side in my younger years and have watched the area that you only chose to showcase deteriorate and it’s sad , so I’m not upset you’ve made it be aware. I am aware of it without watching the video. Just some advice to give that you could not put such a negative on it because who knows, if you could be that one voice that would say , yeah, this is bad , but let me show you this thriving section, then maybe a entrepreneur would see and hear the video and turn some of this mess around for the better. Try to be that one voice, we need to work together in making anything and everything better, not worse
