I love Chris' pride here. A guy who is in no doubt that he won the lottery of life. Played in the coolest band ever, and got the girl. I was just a teenager seeing Tom Tom Club and she was nearly 40, mesmerisingly talented, cool as f*ck, and yes, phenomenally sexy. I love them both.

Personally speaking, as part of Tom Tom Club/ Talking Heads "Speaking in Tongues" Tour Crew, Tina and Chris are some of the nicest people I have ever met! Certainly, it was the greatest music experience of my life. The groove that Tina and Chris hold down is monsta slick. Love (and miss) yawl!

Cool comment. This was a great video showing musicians following the passion of music and having success in not just one band but two, then after having kids and not one mention of the dark years of drugs you hear with some many rock stars. Thanks for the great music.

Tina is just mind blowing to me. I practiced drums for my entire youth and started playing gigs in 11th grade. It was all about chops, technique, and playing other peoples music exactly the same as the records (or cassettes when they appeared). Along comes a rookie bass player and she puts all that training to shame with an artful and unique feel. Really an amazing person.

@@AKLowEnd 2 Timothy 3:12-13 New Living Translation 12 Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13 But evil people and impostors will flourish. They will deceive others and will themselves be deceived. When Stop Making Sense hit the theaters in 1984 our gang raced to the first midnight showing. It was an event. I'm 63. Last night my wife and I streamed the movie and rode that time machine back to our much younger college years. It was a moving experience. One thing I was truly knocked out by was Tina's bass playing. Just nailed down the groove. I was reminded just how much her playing brought the Talking Heads music to life.

I was a freshman at RISD in 1980. Imagine the 'frisson' back then for a band that was formed and played right there for the very first time. We were lucky kids, for the music from the period was so amazing. When we think of Joy Division, all the "new wave" that came after, reggae, ska, motown, and people like Laurie Anderson, Prince, Grace Jones, Eno, Bowie, we were so very, very lucky.

How could you NOT notice Tina in Talking Heads. She was adorable back then, and she was no slouch for a beginner bass player. She could groove with the best players of the time. Talking Heads were such a huge band back in the day, and not one person in that band just filled a spot. Tina deserves every bit of recognition!

@@Mark-bw1wx oh thats disappointing. I had no idea that things had taken a dive in the relationship. I also had no idea that David suffered Autism. To be honest I always thought he was much like myself, not all that socially confident or prefering to stay out of the limelight? Either way without getting into the personal stuff between the three of them I'm glad that we can see and hear stories of what occured and understand them better. I've watched many tv interviews of David recently. Its changed my perspective of him. He's a very humorous, creative and interesting person. And I've learned more about the meaning behind the Big Suit! 😉

I'm pleased to have found this video, which is a fine tribute to a remarkable performer. One of the best gigs I ever saw in over 45 years of gig-going was the Talking Heads & Tom Tom Club double-header at London's Wembley Arena in July 1982. I and three friends drove 120 miles on spec and managed to get seats high at the side overlooking the stage. Simply fantastic. This is saying something because my main interest was - and still is - progressive rock, but I just cannot argue with music and performance of this quality whatever the genre.

I'm a big prog rock lover and play bass, but I always enjoy that simple stuff now and then. That, and I'm not that skilled to play Rush and Yes with the precision I want 😂 But being simple on bass is sometimes all you need. Sting and Tina and some others prove that point.

What strikes me is how much of her playing is about the notes she *doesn’t* play, as well as the ones she does. It’s the same with her sound; it doesn’t take up a lot of space on the frequency spectrum, but does a tremendous amount in the space it occupies. It’s all part of the minimalistic roots of the band so evident on the first two albums. And it’s a totally unique approach to bass playing that really makes her stand out. She simply does the opposite of what most bass players do.

NATURAL FUN indeed! Natural talent too. Tom Tom Club, Talking Heads and more. Man, what a career and what a talented artist who'd probably poured as much into art gallery presentations as she has with music had she gone down that road. Who'd have thought that she'd take that Norman Bates/Psycho shower scene background and apply it to a guitar accompaniment? That's certainly creative. Excellent clip. Thanks.

I was looking for more details on her entry into the TH and this was very good. What a great love story too! Rarely do people stay together anymore.

Ain’t she just. I’m 58 and I look at her as she was then and as she is now, and I feel like a teen again. And she is such a nice human.

I saw Talking Heads in Austin in 1983, less than an hour into the concert David Byrne and Jerry Harrison walk off the stage. I'm thinking what's going on, Tina and Chris remain and moments later I listened to 20 minutes of the Tom Tom Club. I had no idea that was gonna happen. I knew their songs but didn't think to put it together. David and Jerry return and the 'Heads played on. Such a fun concert.
