Time to test some tiny amps! I recently found a good deal on an NVX MVPA1 micro monoblock amplifier and decided it would be fun to test this amp as well as it's replacement, the VADM1. Both amps are almost small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and offer between 300-500 watts of output, depending on the model. NVX stepped up to a cast aluminum heatsink on the new VADM1 amp and although it's slightly longer than the MVPA1, it is still small enough to fit almost anywhere. Today we will test both amps head to head...which one is more powerful? Stay tuned to find out!

If that much trouble is put into a project why not make them hot swappable with a couple of toggle switches for each rail and rem. That would be easy actually for live events. And have a damn fire extinguisher after adding electrical mods.

This will go into my DIY ammo can speaker build (using a 10" DVC Skar Audio sub, Dayton Audio tweeters, Dakota Lithium 24 aH battery, BT EQ, etc-etc). The Nobsound digital chip amp in it now does alright, but need more power.

I used a NVX MVPA1 to drive a 6.5 inch Sundown Subwoofer. But it started making a constant humming noise about 4 hours into break-in playing at 50%. And it was hot too. This was for a boom box so it's not a ground loop issue. Returned it and stuck with the Kenwood M3004.

8:33 There's the attenuation or damping factor ('Dämpfungsfaktor' in German). This value means the ability of the amp to control the speaker and not in reverse (self induction and all that nasty things voicecoils do). Class-D amps technically have a pretty small damping factor, especially as they were new on the market. I think this is one of the reasons why the newer model sounds clearer and more powerfull. [commenting elderly videos is one of my special powers]

I got into car audio in the mid 90’s and have been in and out of it since then. In the mid 90’s if someone told me that little amp even did 200 watts let alone 500 to 700 I would of laughed at them. Back then amps that really put out 500 watts rms were pretty big. Like 15to 20 inches in length and like 8 to 12 inches from top to bottom. I remember one of my friends had a 1000 watt amp that was over 3 feet long. It might of been 4 feet long I can’t remember exactly. But I know it was huge! It’s crazy to how much power you can get out of small amps these days.

Great drag big D those things the real deal. I'd bet if you were able to get the older model the rest of the way apart you'd find some small heatsinks mounted directly to the FETs. You'd think they'd build slots into the plastic case to allow for airflow around them but at that price point I guess there's a limit to how far they can take the engineering

The older amps get super hot after playing for an hour or so especially the 4channel amps. I have 6 of them and 2 of them get so hot they go into thermal shutdown. Im replacing all of them with a better amp that can play without overheating. And Yes they are playing at 4ohms with proper power wire with 2 batteries and I have a 250amp mechman alt. These amps are not that great and its no wonder they were discontinued. The terminals are too small and the switches for the crossovers are not good either, they can only be flipped a few times before they started making scratching sounds or dont work anymore. These are low budget low quality amps that seem to make decent power but not without overheating issues and quality issues.

The old nvx amps used high end class d " Phillips" boards shared by brands like hertz, polk and precision power. don't know about this micro amps design if it's shared with anything else but it carries on the tradition of being underrated for a great price. nothing wrong with this new mini amp but it's sad to see them using cheaper terminals and cheaper Chinese boards. fortunately this mini amp doesn't have the pot metal terminals like their bigger amps use now. Is it possible to patch this in with a bit of savvy hacking? Battery pack has multiple v out and I've already found a 12v trigger on power up. I'm already upgrading to 8" subs since they'll fit and possibly do something different with the mid/ high combo speakers. Be such a waste to throw it out and jbl customer service is a joke

Have you ever tested anything by Powerbass? Im currently using a Powerbass ASA 400.2 I bought years ago (think its from 2005) pushing a 12 Cerwin Vega 1300watt at 2ohm and two lightning audio LO-S412 12's wired at 2ohms seems to be bumping pretty good for a budget system. I also have two SSL (soundstorm labs) amps a PSY1000.2 and a PSY1600.4 I know that are not making there rated power but they can still give you some bump.

I had an NVX VAD4M I ran for about a week @ 4 channels @ 4ohms. I didn't like how hot it got so I took it out and replaced it with a JAD800.4 The VADM4 ran hot enough that you could only keep your hand on it for about five seconds.

Troy Defond I’m sure it will do rated no problem. Odds are about 20-33% over rated if I had to guess. Could be more. What matters is how the amp sounds on a 4 channel. Once crossed over your speakers will never see the amount of power it can put out.

hey can some 1 help me my question is can i run 2xPioneer champion series 12"(400watt rms each) on a stock alternator 65 or 75 amps not rly sure (peugeot 307-1.600cc) using a skar audio rp.1500d 960watt at 2 ohms my question is if i'll have enough power from the stock alternator witout any problems to power all of that. I'l also hook a boss audio cap 8fahrad.
@kingrpriddick
@kingrpriddick 4 жыл бұрын
Cap will not help. And it matters how much of the 65-75amps your car actually consumes but I say that is not enough alternator. Even if it works at first that kill your alt fast. 400W each so say 600W max listening volume, that's 43 Amps! If your car could run off only 20 Amps that's basically the size alternator it would have....

Can you test hometheater amps like reckhorn A-800 It's pretty good for price, they say 2Ohm=800w rms 0.7% and 1000w 10% distorition.

Can I use an amp like this as a daily driver? I used to own 2 x bd1000a1 each hooked to an Eclipse Aluminum 12” DVC. Rock solid, you could not hurt this combo. This was 20 years ago. Car audio has changed so much... Now I need an amp to use in my smallish car with a single basic (but decent) 10” subwoofer in a ported box. My Rockford Fosgate 60.2 “cheater” amp gave up the ghost and I’m looking to replace it with a cheap “set and forget”.

Been running one for 2 years on a 2 ohm sub in my “daily driver”. Just recently went to a pair of two ohm subs in parallel for 1 ohm and it’s still doing fine.
