Hi! My name is Alena and in this video I will show you my soviet apartment. That's not a typical russian dormitory, it's a communal apartment. Communal apartments appeared in the Soviet Union following the October Revolution of 1917. The term communal apartment is a product of the Soviet epoch. The concept of communal apartments grew in Russia and the Soviet Union as a response to a housing crisis in urban areas; authorities presented them as the product of the "new collective vision of the future."
Between two and seven families typically shared a communal apartment. Each family typically had only one room, which usually served as a living room, dining room, and bedroom for the entire family. All the residents of the building shared the use of the hallways, kitchen (commonly known as the "communal kitchen"), bathroom and rarely telephone.

Alena, it's really good to hear from you again. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has missed you. Your dorm looks tiny but if it suits your purpose and is comfortable, it's perfect, for now. I look forward to seeing your new adventures. Please stay safe. Much love from Texas, USA.

I'm really relieved by the ending comments for your own personnel safety reasons, I'm sure it's tough leaving so much behind but sometimes leaving is a much better option than staying put. Good luck in personnel growth journey and don't leave us all hanging to long before updating us on next landing spot.

To be honest, it is not so much the country itself that is to blame as these people, they are Russians, pigs🐽, where they cannot be settled everywhere will be the same. I myself live in this country, but my place is very clean, beautiful and tidy. Cleanly not where they clean, cleanly where they do not litter.
@nicolarobinson3140
@nicolarobinson3140 Жыл бұрын
@@liamneslind5708exactly!! Is this meant to be indicative of all Russian life?! There’s plenty of people who live quite comfortably and happy in Russia, and plenty of alternative sites that follow foreign nationals who have made Russia their home!! There’s residual problems if course from Soviet times but this is often exploited to paint Russia in a wholly negative, depressant light , as though most countries don’t have their own societal and political issues regardless of where you go!! I suspect if this isn’t a fifth columnist account, many would be drawn to it to inform their Russia-phobic tendencies!! Now I think I’ll head straight over to those other pages for a bit of balance….😅🤷🏻‍♀️

@@nicolarobinson3140 very observant. I grew up in the USSR and now live in the US. Let me tell you, in my travels I've seen plenty of disadvantaged places in the US that don't even measure up to that old Soviet life - and once you add crime and drugs into the picture, that supposedly horrid Soviet & Russian life Alena dreads in her trembling voice, would be as remote to them as some advanced species on an alien planet. I really wish I could buy Alena a ticket & have her spend a few nights in Camden, NJ. Many Russians sure looove to complain. This pre-dates modern Russia or the USSR even - Russian poet Pushkin writes about this national self-loathing trait back in the early 1800's. In New York it's common to find a Russian emigrant with a couple of doctorate degrees from the old country (for neither of which he had to pay a dime) who speaks of his homeland poorer than his fellow emigrant from say Mozambique, who got hardly anything but malaria from his motherland.

Honestly, that's not bad at all! Especially since you have your bathroom and kitchen area. I'd say if you are able to, maybe change your lights to warmer colors instead of the fluorescent lights. Or maybe just a floor lamp with a warm bulb. It might lend even more of a home feel. Appreciate you sharing a part of your life that many of us will never see. That would be described as a Studio Apartment, a step up from a Bedsit, one room for living, sleeping and cooking and a bathroom (Bedsits don't have their own bathroom). It would cost over £1000 p.m. in many places in the UK. £1500+ p.m. in London.
@daviddowsett1658
@daviddowsett1658 Жыл бұрын
I know prices have gone up, but a £1000 pm for a non-London accommodation is a bit extreme for this size, I would average this in non-London UK based area (inc NI, Scotland and the North) at about £500-£600 pm with bill covered

This is a very common way to share accomadation in Ireland. Usually 3 or 4 people share a house. There is one room with its own bathroom ocassionally two, then a small double and then a box room which is very small and fits a single bed. The kitchen has one shared fridge freezer which is hard. Sometimes there is two. There's a sitting room with a tv, dinning room attached to kitchen. Houses that are new are warm, older ones are cold. Most people don't accept students so they live in less nice houses often. Rents vary from 300 a month to 550 unless in Dublin then it's more . Dublin has students sometimes three in a room. It's fair bad. Good look with the move.

Thanks for showing us your apartment it looks interesting. I love the music that plays for the first few minutes I think it's a perfect fit for this apartment showcase. Good luck at your new country and please keep making videos for us.

I'm glad to hear you will be leaving Russia soon. You were lucky to have such amenities in your apartment it looked very nice compared to some other ones I've seen in Russia LOL. Be safe and Much love from Illinois!!

I like this sort of patchwork living space. A bunch of furniture from all over the place creating a living space that feels alive and somehow inviting to me. In my eyes it's often better than some fancy homes where everything is new and my first thought is not to break anything. 😅
