This High Class Loser went quite a bit over the suggested mileage for valve adjust on a Tiger 800 XCA. We also look at the spark plugs. This video also covers what the engine air filter looked like after using a Uni Filter for the whole time.
How far have you gone over the suggested service intervals? What was the result?

Indeed well needed Information. We can do a lot of maintenance ourselves without affecting the warranty, but the more complex ones let the dealer do it, they are the one who knows. The warranty will cover us in a worst case scenario.

My 2018 XRX is at 12,385 miles. I'll ride it through the rest of the season, then tackle the service. I usually do most of my work, replaced the gas tank, added crash and luggage bars. How difficult is the cam chain and valve adjustments?

Thanks for the great videos!!! Shame on me; I’ve got 27k miles on my 2012 tiger 800 and I’m doing the first valve check. I discovered that my intake valves are to spec. But my exhaust valves are so far off I don’t trust my findings; I’m getting .13mm-.15mm on all exhaust valves (Haynes manual has spec .325mm-.375mm) Does this sound crazy to you? Am I making a mistake? Any advice would be much appreciated.

That does sound very tight. Try rotating the engine over a few times and reset yourself then measure again. If you come up with the exact same measurements then you may be right and definitely double check after you swap the shims

@jamessexton4288
@jamessexton4288 Жыл бұрын
How often have you checked the valves on your car ? Why is it that bike manufacturers insist that the valves are checked so frequently compared to petrol cars. Imagine being told your new car needs a valve check after a year, or a cam chain. Bikes are made to the same, or better, engineering specs as cars, they really shouldnt be any need for it.. Ok, so some of us can carry the work out ourselves, but most cant or dont bother. The dealerships are raking it in. Happy days...
@simonlangmead7
@simonlangmead7 Жыл бұрын
Good point. Almost all Japanese and Korean cars DO NOT use any hydraulic valve lash adjustment technology. They are solid valve lifters all the way, and yet you never hear of any valve problems whether it’s a 4 6 or 8 cylinder engine and all of them are 4 valves per cylinder. The dealers never mention it. As long as you change your oil frequently and use an OEM air filter changed on time, your engine will blow past 200,000 miles (300,000K) and the camshafts cover has never been off. Yet with motorcycles, it’s a subject that pops up as often as drive chain maintenance. Look at U-tube and see if anyone is popping off their Asian car cam cover to check the valves. You won’t find much or maybe nothing about it.
@douglasalexander4348

Not sure what you car you drive rev s to 11.500 rpm ? Think how many times those valves go up and down compared to your car, so yes, they do need it. And who do you know who replaced their cam chain after a year being as they last 70,000 miles ?

High Class Loser, I have a Question and two Moto things I want to tell you about. 1) The Valve Adjustment on my KTM RC 390 is at a mere 1,000 kms, crazy right.? I am guessing it's the same for the 3 model that share its same engine... the KTM Duke 390, Husky Vitpilen 401 and the Bike I really want to try which is the Husky Svartpilen 401. Is there any way to know if the previous owner is fibbing when he says he had the the Valve Adjustment done already, but has no paperwork to prove it.? I'm not about have the engine torn down to have this rechecked. Do Dealerships keep track of the VINs of Bike they have serviced, are they going tell me of I call them with a VIN.?
