Great Great video!!!! Guys, another trick you can use is call plugin nap in S1. It puts plugins that you are not using to sleep until they are needed. For example on the verse it'll turn plugins that your hook is using off until it reaches that part if the song. Then the plugins come on and when you're start verse 2 it'll shut the plugins used by the hook off again. It's in studio one options page on the processing or buffer page.

I can't thank you enough for this wealth of information explained so clearly. In the last seven days, I have just watched all 33 of your videos on this channel. Do you mail us our PhD diplomas, or can we download them? LOL Seriously, these videos have advanced the entire art and science of mixing to another level for those seeking to learn this craft. I'm so grateful I stumbled onto them.

great video, thanks. I just played with the transform audio feature in S1. I knew it existed for Midi, but somehow missed it for Audio Tracks, I always thought there is only rendering available for Audio Tracks. The only thing I miss is a visual indicator in the tracks view that shows me that the track has been transformed. According to the manual it can only be checked by opening again the context menu of that track you suspect an applied transformation.

Another word... 'Commit' same as Render. Need to point out muting the original will not do much in the CPU dept. Need to make original Inactive, if possible. That is a a CPU saver. Great Stuff. Thank You!

In Waveform, you have an option in the settings - Process Audio Tracks When Muted, I think the box is 'unticked' by default, I can't remember, but in any case, you just disable that function. Do other DAWS not have that option?

Another thing to do: make sure your computer isn’t also doing a lot of unrelated bs in the background. Antivirus software is a major culprit. Bloatware is another. Heads used to unplug their internet, but nowadays that’s less of a thing as many plugs require a sustained internet connection. However, a hardwired connection on your main rig may be better as it is direct and not wirelessly working hard to continuously locate the router. Also, get your OS configured for music production. My last rig was a custom build from pc audio labs. There are specialized companies like that. Everything went left when Windows went and upgraded my OS. PAL’s initial Windows install when putting my order together was optimized to tax my system as little as possible for non-music usage. My next build will include two things: 1. More consideration on a more robust cooling system, and 2. A surface or some sort of tablet for any non music related activity for my day job (employment law) and recreational websurfing. In other words, keep my music computer all music. Often, we don’t realize that online shopping or social media may come with add ons and browser extensions etc. that complicate things for the computer and tax resources. Let a secondary off-the-shelf laptop or tablet handle all that.

I always transform to rendered audio my guitar tracks that are using amp sim plugins. The problem I find with Studio One is that this changes the track volume and I have to readjust it in the mix. Do other DAWs have this same problem?

Faster drives and memory. SSD drives are a lot cheaper than when I put my machine together. Go with as many internal SSD drives as you can for your processes/libraries. Like, put Komplete on drive D and the libraries it needs for the instruments on E. Where you want to go hard is your C drive. You can use the same type of volume your smartphone likely uses: an M.2 drive. It is significantly faster than even an SSD which is much faster than a HDD which uses spinning platters. However, for back ups? Find you a bunch of Seagate externals. Flesh that out over time and keep it updated. A NAS server. But for efficiency? Go as hard as money can allow on M.2 drives. It look like a long ram chip. Why so hard? Because my Vir2 Virtuo6ity e-guitar Kontakt instrument takes FOREVER to load even from a high end SSD or HDD. I make that run off the C drive M.2 as well as my Slate VTM. If I had it like that, and I will, imma replace a couple Samsung 4TB SSD with 4TB m.2 so anything that’s that resource heavy has its own place. A first class VIP seat. If imma run a significantly complex process in oversampling mode as often as I use something like FF ProQ3 or Slate Virtual Tape??!? Imma have to go M.2. Otherwise, I have to use softube tape on my mixes primarily and then render and go from there. I just want as few hiccups in my audio without having to compromise on such fundamental things.

6:07 bit oversimplified. Rendering - based on your presettings - may be destructive. It may delete the original rather than just mute it.
