Helpful tip, when you are moving a sizable windrow, work backward. With your blade at full pivot, keep your inward tip on the load side and outward tip on the completed side, the deflection helps steer so you can put more horsepower to the ground in addition to the blade angle slicing rather than sheering. This was one of my biggest discoveries and I work circles around the other guys.

I've been operating for almost 17 yrs & I will always remember the 1st time I got on a Dozer & the guy who started teaching me. The 1st thing he told me was "the thing about a Dozer, it's all about the feel in your ass" I told him "I don't wanna feel anything in my ass" lol then it started to make sense

That works until you run a dozer long enough that you can't feel your ass, Had a Buddy that had a wiskey bottle glued to his big old Allischamblers Dozer. He had a black line across it, so he could make sure the dozer carrage stayed level.

Great video. Prior to your videos, I had very little experience in earth moving equipment. Now, since watching these videos, I’ve leveled my lot, used a Cat excavator to dig the foundations and basement for my new home so you have saved me a bundle. Very very difficult to operate this equipment but had a little time in a bobcat so the controls were not super foreign to me. We all understand the kids and sleepless night. Hope you’re rested and thanks a bunch

Yes the "ass Level". New operators need to learn to trust and use the ass level. That's so funny you used that term. That's exactly what I've told someone before when they asked me how do I know if it's level. Good stuff man. Do more.
@DieselandIron
@DieselandIron 3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate it brother! Everyone laughs when I use that term but there's not a more accurate description for it. The ass tells the truth too. Your eyes will swear up and down the grade is running uphill until you get in the dozer. The ass level confirms your grade is draining downhill.

@DieselandIron

If you are maintaining a certain depth for a long enough time then I will put a spray paint mark on the back of the blade at times. Your cutting edge is another good indicator as it is about 6-8 inches above the bottom of your blade.

Ok, question...I've run dozers for years - 8,9,10 and 11's, all high track. The question is: how do you keep from making a motocross track with them flat track crawlers? I can grade well enough to keep the motor grader doing more important things than following me...until I jump in the crawler! Any tips, tricks or advise? You do exceptional work btw!
@DieselandIron
@DieselandIron 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly? A shitload of seat time 😂 The high track component isn't what plays a role into keeping grade, it's the length of the track base. You're used to the large dozers where your tracks bridge any bumps in your grade and you're able to stay smooth as your ride over them. As your track base gets shorter the impact of your peaks and valleys gets exponentially worse. The only way to work through that is to just spend more time running the small machines. I've always said, if you want to know if you can REALLY run a dozer, finish grade a lot with a D3. It will humble you quick! Thanks for watching Phillip! I hopes that answers your question and thanks for the compliment!
@carrollsanders9376
@carrollsanders9376 3 жыл бұрын
With a small dozer if you make a huge speed bump stop, swing around wipe it out from the side, or come back half blade though it, don't keep running over it and making the first mistake worse. Also with a small dozer ser blade to roll dirt and cut out hard spots, then finnish grade with loose material. A smaller dozer doesn't have the horse power and weight to cut hard material and finnish grade in one pass.

When you run a dozer you rarely look straight out the front of the cab. You spend almost all of your time watching your blade tips. The exhaust location isn't really an issue.

Take it slow at first. Realize that speed will come with time. Also make sure you are inputting fine adjustments on the blade. Any drastic adjustment will make the machine change pitch quickly and will be difficult to compensate for as a new operator. If you are in a heavy, sticky material such as clay, take small passes and don't try to hog it all out in one go. Sticky materials chunk out and you'll never get a nice finish taking bigger cuts.
