In Episode 3 of DX Engineering’s Amateur Radio Satellite series, Sean Kutzko, KX9X, covers the basics of getting on the linear satellites, including what gear you’ll need for a portable satellite station, a demonstration of how to make adjustments for the Doppler effect on 70cm, and how to find your signal on the downlink.

Incredible content again. Wow. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about linear satellites. I’d like to use this video as well on my KZfaq channel to help expand the knowledge of working a linear satellite. I’ll be sure to credit the DX engineering channel as well as you on this Sean. Terrific work my friend. Larry de K7HN

Great video and I hope to eventually be attempting to do this! I have an off-topic question. I am curious about the lavalier mic you are using in this video - what kind is that?

Thanks for the great video! I'm thinking my IC-705 as a transmitter and Kenwood D74 as the recording receiver would work for this...

Great info here! When using an 817/818 for linear satellites, do you need to install an ssb filter?

How can I use two hts with same antenna ?

Make or buy a single boom antenna with 2 sets elements (one set 435MHz, one set 144MHz). An Arrow2 without the duplexer is good so you have 2 x ants, 2 x leads and 2 x rigs. Get 2 x coax leads, one to each radio. Label one Ht for 145MHz and tune it correct freq. similarly for other on 435. Program the uplink ht with correct CTCSS tone. One in each top pocket of a jacket, a headset or speaker mic is good too...Give it a go. Can be tricky at first but comes naturally with practice. Best to start on FM sats with uplink in 435 and d/l on 145 band to avoid harmonic interference (which you can get with u/l 145, d/l 435). 73 Nick M1DDD (a few basic vids on my YT channel)
