This video in and of itself dealt with my stiff tool. No lubrication up front but, after as many repetitions as possible, loads at the finish. OMG! I should have done this years ago. Unfortunately, my tool was and remains asymmetrical. I'm just living with it and continuing to work at it.

Just picked up my first Leatherman today. Was kind of on the fence but after watching reviews they looked so buttery smooth I had to get one. Just got my Leatherman signal in the mail today and was absolutely shocked that how stiff and gunked up it felt. I almost just put it back in the box and went to go return it but decided to check a few videos and it seems like this is pretty common. Going to try and swing by the store today and pick up some mineral oil and give it a good cleaning then lube it up and hopefully I'll get that buttery smooth action I was looking for.

Currently also using the Suspension NXT. And also using mineral oil as well, so that you can use your tool for food prep.

Using a quality gun oil or CLP would probably be better than using mineral oil. They are designed to be used on metal and will also clean the metal and prevent rust. Thanks for the video.

I use Ballistol, food grade vegetable weapon/tool/all kinds of stuff oil, made in germany. Pro tip for breaking in a leatherman: buy it used:P another tip, buy a swisstool, they dont need breaking in, they are butter smooth right out of the box.

Lube it and work it. That blackwash on the surge looks awesome btw, wish they did that with the wave.

Thanks, I really worked for the finish on my Surge 😆 I’m surprised there still isn’t a black wave!

@@inkiron3907 Oh is that just a beat up normal all black one? Looks like it's a blackwash vs painted black. Looks really nice with wear.

Food grade mineral oil is easy to find at the pharmacy. Just search in the laxative section. It's also use in museum for metal piece that children can touch.

Good info. I need to clean up my micra. It's gunked up and starting to rust a bit.

Hope it helps! Scissors always cut better when they’re clean ✂️

God advice, had like 5 or 6 leathermans through my life and there’s no need to loosen the screws, keeping em clean with a solvent and then a light oil is all you need, they’ll get buttery smooth and perfectly operating over time.

If I sat at work working my stiff tool back and forth I would definitely get fired . . .
