Common sense my man! Nobody has it anymore! Either that, or they're too lazy to walk around the car and look at the tires and if one looks low, put air in it. Or the car rides/feels different, you can tell when it's the tires, or the motor, or the struts/shocks/ coils springs etc. They should teach that in school, since they don't do it at home anymore. Lol😂 they should have a class called common sense 101. 😂

Honestly, it's great to see people doing their own repairs. When it comes to auto repairs, I do a lot myself, but there are many things I don't. Personally, changing the TPS is not something I want to even attempt to do, especially since I have never done it before, nor do I have the proper tools. But also, mainly because I do not want to risk damaging the rim. As I feel, if I were to do this, I would make it worse. To each their own... but as many others have commented, yah you can save $ on changing the TPS, but then youre also having to buy new rims once you bend/damage the rims. (Reviewing the comment section is also a _must_ for me when watching DIYs). So changing the TPS would be for someone (mechanic) who has the proper equipment / setup. Just my opinion.

It’s primarily to stop the damn TBS from flashing
@72442conv
@72442conv Ай бұрын
The issue with that is that most people will not check their tire pressures regularly. Back in the day when cars had 14 and 15 inch wheels with huge sidewalls this was not a problem as when the tire started to loose pressure it was very noticeable. Modern low profile run flat tires can be out of air and you basically cannot see it and will not notice it till you have damaged the tire. I figured this out in my 2016 Corvette Z06 when I had a front tire get a huge bolt in it and I was on the highway doing 60-70 mph and I suddenly saw a red tire pressure indicator flashing on the dash, when I looked at the tire pressure on the dash it showed zero tire pressure on my right side front tire. I though that the sensor must be bad as the car felt normal, but I decided to stop on the shoulder of the highway and check it out. Tire looked normal to me, but when I pulled out a pressure gauge it absolutely had no air pressure in it, and I finally saw the bolt embedded on tire.

This is not going to work on most cars. Its very rare to have a modern car with tires that have such a large flexible sidewall. If you have aluminum wheels, you need to be OK with scratching them, if you can even get the bead far enough away from the rim to actually replace the sensor. Also, you'll need to know how to put the TPMS system into learn mode and program the new sensor. Every car has a different procedure. The car in the video was chosen to make it look easy.

The only problem with listening to all the youtube car "experts" is they have no idea what they're talking about. If they do something one time and it worked on their car, that means it works on everyone's car. Can you just remove the sensors and live with the light? Sometimes. However, as vehicles get more complicated, other systems use information from the TPMS module. If those modules don't get the right information, other systems will shut down as well. Can you program all the sensors at the wheels and then throw them in your glove box? Maybe. If each sensor has its own frequency, you probably can. If your system goes by signal strength, then no. The signal strength from a sensor that's inside the LR wheel will be much weaker than it is when its outside the wheel. And that's if your car actually has TPMS sensors. Some TPMS systems use the tone wheel sensors to calculate air pressure instead of dedicated TPMS sensors. If you have a late model vehicle with expanded telematics features, dtc's set from just about any module will trigger the telematics module to connect to wifi and inform the manufacturer there's an issue with the car. Then you get a phone call from the manufacturer telling you to take the vehicle to your nearest dealer for service. Aside from that, you should be fine. I almost forgot. "Is there anything wrong with just eliminating the sensors and putting regular valve stems in?" No need. You can remove the sensor and leave the old valve in place. The sensor just attaches to the valve because they have to put it somewhere. It has nothing to do with how the valve works. Also, there is one exception. If you have a metal valve stem, that's part of the TPMS sensor. On those you remove the entire assembly and replace it with a standard rubber valve. But you should only remove these things if you're sure you won't have problems. The older the vehicle, the more likely you are to get away with it.
