I can’t understand why you wouldn’t use tubeless with plenty of sealant and an insert in so that you run on on the rim for a while until you could get a wheel.

There are three types of different 'airliners' they are made of completely different stuff, the road version actually compress's when the tyre inflates, piping back out to size/volume to keep the tyre on the rim primarily. The video shows the Gravel closed cell structure. They ship them with a specific valve as normal ones with the liners in place get 'sealed' they are that effective when used as designed with sealent👍. MtB version is different again & are primarily for rim protection (jump landing etc) & to stop 'burping' 👍

@eliatrabalza2 жыл бұрын
Sure! Just follow the instruction and use a non-ammonia sealant.
@DEAR73402 жыл бұрын
I had a great deal of trouble mounting the GP 5000 TL on a Stans Grail rim. My shop even stopped carrying them because the force required was cracking the casing in too many cases. I added the Vittoria Airliner to my GP 5000 setup, but it did make a difficult job even harder: 1) very tight fit with a non-compliant tire 2) it took a lot of patience and effort to inject and distribute sealant, even with the specialized valve(s) 3) the design of the specialized valves is prone to getting sealed/clogged. If you race, I think these make sense. My thought was that they would get me (non-racer) a step closer to being able to finish a ride after a TL puncture and possibly eliminate the need to carry a tube. I didn't find this to be the case. In the end, I removed the Airliners and switched from Continental GP 5000. I'm just a middle-aged guy that likes to stay fit and go fast(er), so the Airliner was over-engineering and complicating my experience a bit, especially in combination with the GP5000 TL tire.
@shenzhenpingpong2 жыл бұрын
@@DEAR7340 , thank you for the invaluable real world feedback. I was afraid it'd leave too little room. I would think room'd also depend on the inner rim width. I don't know how wide the Stans Grail rim is.

@sebastianm23812 жыл бұрын
@@Jeroen_K not sure who moved on - the peloton or the sponsors? To me it seems theres a "new thing" in wheel tech every two years to render your current wheelset obsolete. First it was tubeless ready beads, then it was internal/external width getting wider every year, now it is hookless. I'm riding both road tubeless and road tubulars. Not convinced that the high number of tubeless setups at this years P-R was completely voluntarily. No matter how good your tubeless setup is, you still have an exposed rim side wall which might hit sharp edges and get damaged which your tubular rim doesn't have. The mechanic in the vid seems to agree with me. With huge MTB tires, that's obviously not an issue.
@Jeroen_K2 жыл бұрын
@@sebastianm2381 Sure there is sponsor push, but multiple teams offered a choice to their riders. I believe it was a cyclingtips video talking to a lot of teams before the race, asking about their assortment of tech brought to the race. Also, I do not believe there's something like obsolete for the recreational rider. No one forces you to buy the new stuff. A valid point about a tubular rim being a stronger design, because of its shape. Lots of teams used foam inserts to take care of that, but in the end I guess among the 'safe' choices (if such a thing exists for Paris-Roubaix), riders will go for the fastest setup. Tubulars are fast when they have latex tubes sown into them, but they are outperformed by tubeless in rolling resistance tests. Tubulars did offer somewhat of a run flat capability and the tire will not come off in case of a flat. With foam inserts, tubeless got on the same level.
@sebastianm23812 жыл бұрын
@@Jeroen_K I think foam inserts are a great idea and I welcome tubeless tech. But I’m not convinced that it's the fastest possible setup for road bikes. I think the jury is still out on whether low resistance in a steel drum roll test with a tire actually equates to it being the fastest on real roads. I'm riding Corsa Tubulars with latex inner tubes and they feel considerably more supple than any tubeless tire I ever rode. To get to the same level of comfort, I have to ride my tubeless tires with less pressure than my tubulars. Which probably kills any advantage they allegedly have in rolling resistance. I do yet have to compare Corsa tubeless tires with Corsa tibulars though. Schwalbe Pro One, Conti 5000 and Hutchinson tubeless tires feel harsher than tubulars of the same width to me. Schwalbe being the closest.
