- If you play Converted Elemental dmg Dragon Hunter, it better to play Throwing weapn than Spear. Melee elemental dmg hit can't crit, only melee physical and pierce (via pierce ratio) can crit. - Throw weapon or bows can get more benefit from Thunder Strike than Spear. Spear with TS hit target twice, but Throw weapon/bow shot 5 projectile, if you dualwield throw weapon you can shot 5x2=10 projectiles. Use TS at close range and you can shotgun enemies, deal massive dmg on target hits. - Spear/shield build with physical/pierce dmg you can play Warden (Hunting+Defense), Ranger (Hunting+Nature) Haruspex (Dream+Hungting), Slayer (Warfare+Hunting), Bonechamer (Hunting+Spirit), Brigand (Hunting+Rogue).

I know you made this comment a year ago, but I will answer anyway: The two best class combinations for spear and shield are Haruspex (hunting & dream) or Brigand (hunting & rogue). Haruspex stacks a lot of defensive ability, making it hard to get hit by enemy attacks, and gets damage absorption from its trance. It is pretty well rounded, and gets some good damage boost from using the psionic touch as its left click. lucid dream also increases its physical damage, and there is a lot of chance to avoid projectiles as well in dream. for not getting one-shot by enemies, and not being afraid to die in melee, its a good class to take with hunting. Recently, I have tried using a spear and shield on a Brigand. This has a lot less passive defense compared to dream and is more gear dependent. It does however do much more damage. Rogues can make their melee weapons have a higher pierce ratio, so if you are stacking pierce damage gear, you can do some insane damage. However, you don't have a lot of the defensive options that Dream provides, so you need to rely on monster lure and flash powder to not be overwhelmed. The build is good if you can get enough pierce damage gear (two apollo will's, tracker hood, etc). but you also need a lot of resistances if you don't want to get one-shot by bosses, so make sure you itemize specifically for what you are fighting. It is nice though to play Brigand and get things like 150k + crits. My Brigand can kill Hades in a few seconds on legendary.

Reckless Offense (one of the 24ish skills of the Runemaster) also allows you to dual wield weapons. And to be honest there are no dumb questions just dumb answers.

It's may his playstyle. TS is very powerful and worth to using for any weapon builds, especially for dualwield throw weapons.

- Only weapon base (physical) dmg can converted to elemental dmg. Elemental dmg from converted weapon base dmg treated as elemental dmg, mean scale with character Intelligence, % elemental dmg dmg, %Fire/Cold/Lightning dmg (because Elemental = 1/3 Cold + 1/3Fire + 1/3Lightning). - Rune Weapon skill is charge attack replacer skill, like Onslaught. More charge you raised it, more %total/Elemental dmg and more % base Int you get => more elemental dmg or Fire/Cold/Lightning with DoT version of those dmg (and Vitality/Vitality decay dmg too).

I found that I was getting more mileage out of spamming attacks rather than to stop and Thunderstrike. There is a small cast time to every ability and I started noticing the loss of efficiency after relying on leech. The main drawback of bows for me is the high Dex requirement. I also don't like the Marksman line ever since the AE changes. Damage potential is higher though due to higher attack speed cap and base damage. Nidbow and Ichaival are very good.

- You can using Menhir Wall to block enemies that come straight to you. And Ensare to lock them down. If your gears build don't give enough recharge reduction to using one skill ofte, you should using both skills. Thunder Strike upgrade - Unleash has chance to applied Confusion to enemies too. - Monster Lure can using a decoy too, but you must don't do any dmg to enemies before the dummies provoke enemies, or enemies will focus on you even if dummy provoke them. Study Prey don't count as dmg so you can using it to lure enemies come close to you, just stay close the dummies so it can provoke enemies.

Do you ever play Rune mastery? Rune has Runeword Feather that can reduce alot Str requirement for weapons/shields.
