This video I review the Harbor Freight Titanium series plasma 45, it’s a great compact inverter plasma torch with a output of 45 amps. It can be plugged into 120 volt or 240 volt outlets, on a 120 volts it can cut up to 1/4” cleanly.
This is the first of a few videos I plan to make covering this plasma torch, the next video I plan to run it on 240 and see how it cuts up to the max 5/8” mild steel the manual says it will cut, we will see?
I also plan on seeing how it works on our CNC table next!
I also cover some reviews of the Titanium 200 multi process welder, showing how it MIG, TIG, STICK and welds Aluminum with the optional spool gun. I review the Vulcan Omnipro 220 multi process welder and The Vulcan ProTig 200 AC/DC machine so Check out my KZfaq channel if you’re interested in those videos.

@@Mikefestiva Harbor freight is releasing a titanium 65 plasma cutter, about a week or two ago I was looking at consumables on their website and they have a 65 amp nozzle now and as of a few days ago it now says for titanium 65 plasma cutter. They are also have the 45 amp electrodes on clearance, I think they are going to sell only 65 amp electrodes which can be used at lower amperage which is what many manufacturers do. There is definitely better options then the titanium 45 for the money.

Thank you for running it on 120v. So many of the videos I see always say it functions on 120 but turn around and use it exclusively on 220v. I get that these machines all run optimally on 220 but there's a lot of DIY'ers that aren't going to use it on the higher voltage.

Yes David I wanted to start of with this first video on 120 volts because there’s been a lot of requests in past videos how the welders work on 120 volts, there’s a lot of people that only have 120 volts in there shop. Thanks for checking out my video 🙂

I'm trying to figure out what size wire and breaker I should run to my garage. I ran the 200 unlimited on a 20 amp breaker for 120v and it kept popping. I would like to put in a 240 outlet too but idk what size breaker I should use.

I just got a Titanium 200 in June this year. I didn't know that they made a plasma cutter to! I would certainly want one for myself also. Just an amateur welder, but getting better every time I weld. I'm building a frame with in a frame HF 10x20 canopy, mostly made from bed rails. I started 2 yrs ago and just now started back. I had to buy some angle iron to finish it up before winter sets in, I would like to get the roof on and see my car under it. If you like to see it, just hit my picture and see for yourself. I have learned a lot by watching your videos. I'll be looking forward for your next one, Thanks for the reviews.

Package powered by a predator inverter Generator For portability… with a hybrid hard wire configuration. So you could run a full 220 in the shop if needed. Out of the ballpark !! you did it again great job I have the 200 titanium I love it the only thing I hate about it. ( no foot pedal ) being a new welder I did not realize how important a foot pedal is with MIG welding TIG welding or do I really wish I had one if we get one for this I'll be the happiest guy in the world I wish it had a foot pedal For that reason alone I definitely do not recommend the titanium 200 to anyone as much as I love it I would not buy it again for that reason alone I bought a Lotus plasma cutter not too long ago online on Amazon I wish I would have waited for the titanium I didn't know they were coming out with one but the price is pretty high if they're saying 600 I got the lotus LTD 5000 I don't know if I'm happy at all with it I really don't know how to use it that good do not use it very often I think I paid around $400 ,I wish I would have waited for the titanium looks like it works really nice thanks again Mike I look forward to all your videos no matter what they are great job God bless buddy.. As for the lotos plasma cutter I purchase I can't say nothing really bad because I really don't know how to use it I finally got my air situation figured out,, I was having too much moisture that's why it wasn't working ! I got that straightened out by building a condenser and water drains it works great now no more water problems with this hot summer we had and the moisture here on the east coast in Pennsylvania by Allentown it was terrible humidity this year I turn my air compressor on within an hour I get a gallon of water easy I put in a drain system that I.. picked up on the internet and put a condenser on the back of the air compressor I have no more water problems whatsoever it works great that way everybody should try that any questions get ahold of me thanks again Mike I wish you were my neighbor neighbor if you would live so far away I'd visit you and become your friend adios partner.. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 God Bless America and Mike

Over time, using a metal guide to keep your cut straight will erode the insulator in the torch, the plasma is attracted to the adjacent metal in your guide. I use plastic or compressed paper as a guide. It does burn as you cut, but it sure will save your torch. Adequate ventilation is a must!
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jim the metal was never touching the cup on my plasma torch, it was touching the metal stand off that was provided with the original torch, I have used many plasmas over the years and replacing electrodes is just a part of cutting with them, blow back is usually what gets the cups. I actually never free hand cut anymore with this, it’s on my CNC table. I have cut over 900 feet of metal and this torch is still going strong. The receptacle that you plugged into is only rated for 15amps. A 20amp breaker is good for 80% of the amp rating. So it’s good for 16amps. Tough load on that circuit when cutting a lot. Your wiring to the receptacle will get weak over time.

They are quite pricey for home use though, and Harbor Freight's rep for electrical reliability scares me away. The "Cut50" units online seem to be a much better deal, but consumables are a bit of a problem with all these non- brand name units. Thanks for the review!
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 4 жыл бұрын
Yes they are pricey, I keep seeing the prices fluctuate quite a bit, $750,$800,$850 they seem a bit high to me too. I actually own a CUT 50 I bought on Amazon about 3 years ago. I never did a review on it mostly because of the build quality seemed to be lacking, but it actually cuts fairly well. If you only plan on using it on occasion I think the CUT 50 will be fine. I wired mine to run on 220 not 120 because of the bad reviews I found on the CUT 50 at the time of people maxing out the amps on 120 volts and smoking them. Consumables were really easy to find on Amazon and they are about 1/4 the price as the Titanium consumables, so that’s not a concern. My cut 50 was high frequency start so I could not use it on my CNC table but here’s a video I made building a powered cut track for my CUT 50, check out how clean the cuts turned out! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fZqRmcaeyZycYac.html

Awesome video Mike! I I really enjoy the way that you explain all of the features of the tools that you are reviewing and getting to see them in action. Looks like I’m going to have to buy one of those. The HarborFreight store near me is a very good and well stocked store. It’s in Jonesboro, Arkansas and all of the workers are top notch people that really knowledgeable about the products in the store.

Thanks Gary! I don’t know if you have seen my other videos yet but I use this Titanium 45 plasma torch in almost every video. I hooked it up to my CNC table and I have cut well over 800 feet of metal without any problems so far. It’s an awesome torch! Take care 🙂

Thanks for checking out my plasma video 👍 I only ran it on 120 volts to show how it performs on that voltage, I have 220 and always run it on that voltage in my shop. I have cut a few thousand feet of metal with this Plasma on my CNC table and it’s still working great 👍

What cfm raring does your air compressor need to run this? Also the thicker the metal the higher the air pressure needed and then cfm changes with pressure too right what cfm and pressures are needed to cut the thicker gauges?

@@Mikefestiva I bought the Titanium 45 after seeing your video. My Crossfire pro is almost all here. I received box 3 and box 2 waiting on box 1. Just got jeffrussell1966@gmail.com that the THC and laptop stand just shipped. Excited. Would love if you had a cut sheet for different metals you could share. It would be greatly appreciated. Also if you have any pointers on some issues I may encounter. Thanks for the great videos.

I bought a lotus LTD 5000 on Amazon around 400 I'm a new welder almost a year in I have a titanium 200 which I like all except no foot pedal which I would not buy it again for that reason alone once I found out about MIG welding and TIG welding the foot pedal I had the lotus I don't know if I like it or not I really don't know how to use it well I was having water problems which I just got straightened out I made a drain system and a condenser for my compressor which works fantastic I got it off the internet the idea if you have water problems definitely check into and that's and how to put lines in on the wall with copper or whatever it works. !!! I was having big issues. !!! couldn't get it to work right and it was water !!! got it straightened out now still don't know if I like the Lotus if the titanium was in front of me I would definitely buy that first is a 50.. Big DEAL that's one Mike just did the titanium really works nice but then again MIKE makes everything look easy. Just joking Mike's a great guy great neighbor I call him my neighbor from the internet God bless enjoy I hope I helped

I bought a Harbor Freight plasma cutter years ago and though it worked; it gave me fits, they discontinued the consumables and zero parts were available. It was claimed to cut 1/4" steel but you were lucky to do half that. I switched back to gas cutting, abrasive wheels, etc. Luckily I sold it to some sucker and bought the Hypertherm 30xp. Dang it's night and day better. They claim 5/8" cut but it'll do an inch with less struggle than the Harbor Freight unit at 1/8". Not worth it to save a buck on high tech tools.
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 4 жыл бұрын
That’s how it goes sometimes, that sucks about the HF plasma you owned, about the consumables, if I was in that situation I would probably just adapt a different torch to it from EBay that has common affordable consumables, but that’s some screwing around, HF really should have continued to stock consumables for that torch. Electronics have come a long ways in the past 10 years and the off brands are getting better. I have cut over 300 feet of metal and aluminum with my Titanium 45 so far without any problems, time will tell but I have cut 1/2” extremely clean so I’m sure it will cut the 5/8” they claim it will. Take care 👍

I have not found any consumables that look like they will fit this plasma torch yet besides the HF ones. I have been looking, if the torch handle ever gets messed up I would probably replace it with one that off of e bay or Amazon, something that has cheaper consumables. If I find anything I will try and let you know 👍 Take care

I'll bet that it will cut 5/8" thick steel NO PROBLEM on 240 volt! I'll bet ANYBODY that it will do a severance cut on 5/8" on 120 volt 20 ampere circuit your using right now. It would be ugly, but it will do it.

Thanks! I tried to find out the unit price but they would not say yet. If I hear I will definitely let you know. You can cut really close to a line especially following a straight edge, free hand is still possible but takes a steady hand, I will try and demonstrate that in the next video 🙂

I have had a 45 amp Harbor freight machine for more than fifteen years and it will cut up to 1/2" steel however I think you would really be giving up any quality if you tried 5/8. For the bigger stuff I bought a Cut 70 amp machine using a dedicated circuit (50 amp 240v). I couldn't help noticing you said it was a 20 amp 120v circuit but the outlet is a 15 amp rated fixture. Did someone install a 15 in a 20 amp circuit or is it truly a 15 amp circuit. If it was a 15 amp circuit putting out 20 amps of cut is impressive! Take care. Doug
