To be fair, it always breaks my heart when people fail to notice main titles and are not even staying for end credits, as well. They're very legitimate part of the movie.

PictureProductStudio when we have little interest in something we're less likely to bother with it. Hence "titles" and "end credits".

He came to our University to do a talk and omg he's so lovely! I love that he's confident in everything he does because he knows that he offers what he believes fits each movie the best. He takes the traits of a movie and translates that to every title sequence he makes. They're all so different, it's amazing!!!

I always loved watching titles and credits (and it breaks my heart when people ignore both of them) and yet I somehow failed to notice that some of my personal favorite title sequences were designed by this legend of a man. What is great is that it seems that Dan Perri always designs titles and credits regardless of a current status of a filmmaker, doing both "genre" and "big" movies - he designed marvelous main title sequence for a lesser-known independent film "Curdled", for example. One of the best title designers ever.

I have spent the WHOLE of the Covid lockdown filming a miniature mechanical knight chasing a clockwork mouse. I was starting to thing how absurd this self-inflicted challenge/torture now looks on my calendar, a summer spent in the dark, watching the whole summer pass from the mere shadows under the studio door, but this reassured me that sometimes, things just take as long as they take... especially as in my case, in February when I started... I had ABSOLUTELY no idea where to start! BRAVO and Thank you for the reassurance. 🏆

I am coming to the end of my Foundation year doing film at Falmouth University Cornwall England and yesterday myself and many students had the privilege of Dan Perri talking to us in person about his work. Dan gave many great insights into how he works and advice for all the students, I asked Dam about the work he did on Field Of Dreams.

Fantastic. I always check for the title design, though in film school, it never came up as a topic. When it's done well, title design is like an "on ramp" to the experience, and just as memorable as parts of the movie. Kudos Dan Perri!

Interesting. I've noticed there's art in titles and wondered about it. Why this way or that way, why here on the screen and not there, why that font or how they transition. How they reflect the mood or theme of the movie. I knew someone sat around and designed it, but I didn't know it was a specialy. You wouldn't use the title sequence to a Sergio Leone spaghetti western to introduce "2001." And the sequence to "Alien" is a puzzle, the one to "The Thing" (Carpenter's) is also a puzzle but just cataclysmic. All of them setting a mood. On a different note, I remember seeing a documentary just about the font "Helvetica." It's probably around, how it revolutionized public signage and the like. An hour-long treatment of one font! And we never noticed it. Cool stuff.

I'd like to get his opinion on the trend of shifting all the credits - even the title - to the end of the film. Do some filmmakers feel the credits are cluttering up or interfering with the cinematography? (Just a little pet peeve of mine. I'd like to see at least the film title at the beginning, or have it be the first thing I see after the movie's over. I'm sure he would, too, since sometimes half the theatregoers have already left by the time the title shows up on the screen.)
@breakfastmachinearchive8
@breakfastmachinearchive8 8 жыл бұрын
This trend upsets me as well. A good opening title sequence can ease the viewer into the world of the movie and set the tone and pace of what follows. Diving headlong into the story without any titles or credits makes it more difficult to get immersed and assumes the viewers have such poor attention span that they wouldn't be able to handle a few minutes of non-story content.
