OKAY FOLKS, YOU ASKED FOR MORE SO HERE IT IS. This was the grand finale of the show. In this routine Tito dances with his 6 year old nephew Mimo in a drum solo duet. This young boy is already very talented. It will be interesting to see how far he developes his skill. If he's this good now can you imagine what he will be when he grows up?

It's been a few weeks since I last watched this - had to come back and see it again! There's so much happening here, in terms of energy, great choreography (my gosh - dancing on top of tablas!!!) - and joy. The interaction between Tito and Mimo is so much fun to watch. Thanks again, Tarik, for posting this.

We don't care even if he was. Its the fact that he's a talented performer that we care about and you can't deny he is talented and so is the kid. kid's real qute. Love to see kids dancing. They just express happiness naturally.

I watched that with a big smile on my face. They both have great skill and balance - the squats and the lifting of the boy onto his shoulder must be particularly difficult while standing on a tabla. It's great to see the young ones keeping up tradition, and helping to make it more acceptable for men to dance in public.

This is fantastic dancing. What balance! I just wish I had the stamina to last through a 6 minute exercise like this. I've had the pleasure of seeing belly dancers, both female and male. It's an art form in the hands of the experts which Tito is and Mimo is certainly on his way to being. BRAVO.

I'm glad you had a good time and enjoyed the show. I hope to see the level of this art increasing in Egypt whether it be male or female dancers. I also want to see more places like Sharam where people can take their families to see a good show. Not like on Haram street where all the clubs are filled with...you know....there's so much beauty to be found in Egypt.

All the guys in Egypt shake their hips, not just women. They are just begining to do it on stage that's all. Art is for everyone and now the art is begining to grow and move in other directions as well. There are all sorts of talented people in Egypt, but many of them never get the chance to show what they can do. God willing, things are beginning to change in this respect.

Remember, men have been doing this dance for fun at home all along, however, it is a recent thing for them to be doing it on stage the way we do now. Also remember that in real life situations, men and women traditionally do not dance together, so the concept of dancing a duet is still being worked out. As for the costume, he's just wearing the traditional men's out fit. The girl is his student by the way. Give her a few years, she'll catch up ;-)

There's only so much multi-tasking you can do when you're holding a camera...lol! I was wondering the same thing about his feet as well. One of the amazing things about watching Egyptian dancers (for me at least) is realizing just how complex and finely nuanced Raqs Sharki and Raqs Beledi truly is.

Dances of this type are done all over African, particular East Africa and North Africa. Professional dancers make less than 1% of all dance done across North Africa and the Middle East. These dances are learned from childhood in family celebrations. These are social folkdances that are done primarily for fun and are expressions of joy and celebration. Now as professional entertainment some dancers do make a sexual display but that is their choice. it doesn't mean that is what the dance is.

I agree with you. The lady does have a point. There are a lot of Americans who need to loosen up. they don't know how to relax unless they are on drugs or alchohol. You have a point too. there are a lot of people in Egypt who are just so super serious they cnat stand to see anyone having a good time and have to twist it into something dirty, in other words we are all human, some live on the upside some on the down side.

shame??? we foreigners dance at every social event we can. latinos do it, turks do it, persians do it. watch the tango and see how seductive and close of a dance it is, watch the lambada. i have an aunt who has some neices on the other side that were dancing to lambada at the age of 4. music and dance is expression of our bodies at its finest. please go out and enjoy whats left of your time on this earth. its beautiful!

Exactly. This is why I put out these videos, to show a more complete spectrum of the dance and because I believe that it is an art in general, even though the context its done in most of the time is not very artistic. It has the same potential and merit that jazz ballet or flamenco does and in those dances men and women dance, so why shouldn't we do the same?

If you watch Brazilians dancing to forró music (super-close partner dancing, you more or less have to be attached to each other's waists to do the steps right), you'll see this, too. There's some great footage of this in the movie "Eu Tu Eles (Me, You, Them)" - which has been in US release for a good while.

This is my channel and I shot this footage. I don't care if you dont lioke it, that is normal. Every person isn't going to like every performer just like every person doesnt like every type of food. There has to be variety and different tastes in the world. Its when people make vicious statements or ststements that are cukturally misleading that I speak up. If I din't believe in free speech I would have simply deleted your comments. You're free to say what you like and I am free to refute it.

The association with femininity is a perception that was reeinforced because of the way the theatricalized dance was portrayed in the media. This dance is related to many of the dances found throughout Africa. It is common there as well for men to move their hips and body in a sensual manner. But you are right, because the dance is PERCEIVED as feminine, most people will assume a guy is gay if they don't know men also do it as well.

total agreement! i do not intend to idealize American society, i especially agree on your point about most of them having a good time only when on certain substances. it is absolutely true that ppl of the south, and esp arabs, can have a greater time, dance have fun be "non-stiff" without anything, contrary to many Americans or Europeans..

What is considered unmanly by one person is considered no big deal by another. You see guys dancing like this in public for fun all over Egypt. If he gets a big enough name he might have to hire a body guard because all celebraties have to do that since there are so many crazy people out there.

Oh, that's what you meant. Well, to the best of my knowledge Tito is married. Now about Arab men dancing. Very few dance on stage However, this dance is primarily a social dance. Its something that people do for fun, just like Puerto Ricans and Cubans do Salsa, or Americans do Hip-hop. Both men and women dance socially. Take a look at the other clips in my collection and my playlist and you will see. I've just uploaded an interview "Dance and the Egyptian People".

To be honewst, he wasn't at Ahlan Wa Sahlan, he was at the other festival around the corner and down the street. I figured it was a lot easier to walk around the corner to see him than to hop on a plane to Sharam il Sheikh. It was a sticky situation because the organizers of the two festivals are not on good terms with each other.

Its sexy in the sense that when a person is comfortable in their own skin and they move well, they are sexy. It could be dance, sports, or even walking. His intention is to express joy, not neccessarily to turn people on, but if you find him attractive, of course it will be sexy.

And yet if you go to Egypt you see guys doing the same dance all the time. This guy is just doing it on stage, so what's the big hairy deal? This is a dance that men and women do for fun, its the native dance of Egypt. Having men do it too is just showing REALITY AND TRUTH instead of the tourist fantasy that only women dance this way.
