Nice video Mel. My first plug that I've cut with cutter like this was Peterson 3P's. I find this cutter not being primarily meant to cut flakes, but pieces of plugs. It does work better if you are left handed for cutting flakes, however this cutters were used to bring the long narrow piece of plug from the left and just cut a smaller plug from it with your right arm. On my cutter I have measurements for plug weight in Oz. (on the cutter stand right of the blade) which leads me to conclusion that the sizes and especially the weight of the bigger plug pieces that tobacco stores had were standardized. I saw flake cutting machine that works in a different way. You have a wheel with blades and a ramp on which the plug laid. One was pressing the plug towards the wheel with blades and turning the wheel to cut the plug in to flakes. Nevertheless, this cutters are usable for cutting flakes , you just need to put a bit more effort in it and f you are right handed. They are also a nice piece of history and I'm happy that I have one plus seeing other pipers using them. Take care my friend, Janez

I wonder if you push the plug against the black arch of the frame to stabilize it, would it keep it from moving so much? That contraption is over the top Uncle Mel! Will it julian fries?

that cutter is so sweet. the first thing I thought was "I wonder how well that would work on the 3P". I've never gotten a clean solid slice off that plug. it's like trying to cut a block of dark chocolate. so that would be interesting to see.

Those things are nice found some on eBay but expencive think ill stick to my big chef knife seeing that I seldom smoke plugs I do love mr some dark plug from time to time but not enough to justify spending 150 to 200 bucks

Is that a chisel ground blade and have you tried cutting from the other direction? I would of liked to of seen the actual mechanics of the lever to the blade configuration. You've got some of my wheels turning! Thanx!
@garbagemanpiper

Fully you are bang on. After the VR I realize I needed to move the plug to the other end because of the cutting motion on the blade. Shoot me an email and I will video more of the working for you. Garbagemanpiper@gmail.com. Thanks for stopping by 👍🍭🐓
