How to get faceted wa handles perfect every time. After one of my last knives I made and put pictures on Instagram of the octagonal faceted handle people asked me how to get it so even and square. So here's the really easy way to do it.

Чего тут информативного пол часа размечал, а получилось все не ровно или у вас косоглазие? Такие ручки делаются с приспособой, тогда все идеально, но лучше купить на али экспресс за 10$ а сосредоточиться на клинке.

Hey Toby, great videos! What grit do you use to grind in the facets? I find 120 grit seems to pull out material a bit too fast and the 220 is really slow.

Hey mate great video. How hard is your belt grinder going? Do you find ends of the handle ever get ground away faster than the middle and it doesn't come out properly flat?
@TobyFireandSteel

Thanks mate. Nono don't get that problem bud. I have in the early days though. It sounds like your platern may not be adjusted correctly. Possibly to yo far in or out. Have you seen the 6 sheet of paper rule? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jbOImcWXmcmtco0.html

hi great video, great work, but if this is the "easiest way" I still think is not so easy. Congrats!! And, by the way, its been long time I saw a japanese video showing a machine (very simle and operating in primitive way), like a jig, to do this work in handle. This machine was composed by a wheel with blades (like plain) moving in the wood and removing material modeling in octagonal shape. I lost this viedo and I have tried to find in youtube but unfortunatelly a I can´t. So please if some of you have this mentioned video or link to, please ping me. thanx.

thats ace. thanks for the tip tobes. i will remember that one. there is a trick thats similar ive seen on several wood working chanels like Pask makes, Jimmy diresta and johnathan kats moses, where they use a table saw and an octagonal collet to set the angles to get a perfect octagon but i dont think it would work with a taper like what you do with this. Your method of set up is pretty much exactly how you set up to hand hew a log into a beam.
