VERB+ 著/着ㄓㄜ˙zhe is widely used in written form (in songs/books/novels...), which also commonly appears in the exams such as TOCFL and HSK. 著 Chinese grammar is completely different from 正在 ! The Grammar Key points are---
1.著 Expressing ongoing states
2.著 Used Idiomatically
3.著 Used as a background of (a situation)

have studied Chinese in Taiwan for 120-360 hours in Taiwan, or for 240-720 hours in non-Chinese speaking regions.
know between 500 and 1,000 basic Chinese vocabulary items and able to use basic grammar and sentence structures
TOCFL Reading Band B is designed for learners who:
are non-native speakers of Chinese at the intermediate level.
have studied Chinese in Taiwan for 360-960 hours in Taiwan, or for 720-1920 hours in non-Chinese speaking regions.
know between 2,500 and 5,000 basic Chinese vocabulary items and able to use basic grammar and sentence structures.

Well , I will still find it easier to think of 着 as the gerund form of the English verb, I.e. “ing” … but now I do understand the nuances.

Great video! I especially love how when you speak Chinese you separate it from the English. A lot of channels put English subtitles and I spend the whole time reading the subtitles (or the pinyin)! This way I can actually test my ears, and then if I didn't understand, I can listen to the English after. It really works well for me 🤩

林老師很不錯,看到你的教學熱情與認真,相較於其他漢語的語法教學儘量提供學生情境與感受。如果能在加上爲什麼要使用「V著」,也就是什麼時候需要“強調”或“凸顯”動作或狀態的持續,會更貼近生活的使用;不然就是偏重「V著」結構的正確性而已。更白話一點說,就是什麼時候我們會使用「V著」,是在疑惑的時候?還是在找東西/人的時候?還是?? 您所提供的句子,已經有這樣的傾向了,很不錯哦!

Oh, cool, in Russian language there is the same construction for verbs named ДЕЕПРИЧАСТИЕ (verb + -Я or -В) . If I explain it with the analogy they understand immediately. Thank You.

If this can help : 着 = progressing/processing action Very easy to understand for French people. Nous disons : Je suis "en train" de manger. L'ordinateur est "en fonction".

着-用法 动词+着, 我等着你回来。 电脑开着。 电灯开着。 他不在位子上,但是电脑开着。 窗户是关着的。 不要一直坐着,一起去跑步吧。 等车的美女拿着一袋水果。 看着我的眼睛。 帮我拿着这个,谢谢。 我去一下厕所,帮我看着行李。 很多人推着行李出来。 老师戴着口罩上课。 她哭着决定放弃梦想。

Would it also be possible to say : 等著車的小姐拿著一袋水果。there would be one 著 for background and one for the ongoing state. Sounds unusual to me though.
