They reported the family then decided not to press any charges or act. Ok! An important comment! BUT what can we do? Congress just passed a watered-down gun law that many say would not have stopped this! Parents are losing control of depressed and mentally unstable children! Actions like Columbine are being seen as cathartic! With so many problems on our plates, how do we address them all?

@@bthomson Congress is supposed to represent us, the people. We need to consult with our representatives to see what they suggest. They understand how the bureaucracy works. We need to testify before boards that run things, like schools, school districts, counties, etc.. We need to spend time dedicated to do this to change the system. These are systemic problems, and changing the system is hard. Look how the gun rights people pushed back and changed things. We outnumber them yet we have to be willing to dedicate time to a cause we feel the strongest about and focus on that one. Here in SF where I live, we finally after 75 years , got the GGBridge Board to change it’s mind and decide that we needed to protect people who were vulnerable, from jumping to their deaths from the iconic bridge here. It is under construction and will hopefully be completed in Jan 2023. There were many roadblocks along the way, and it took way too long. So many have been able to jump to their deaths while we debated, testified, petitioned for funds, had laws changed, got signatures, spoke to the media, were berated and insulted by members of the public, and were pushed back etc., etc. We can never give up, that’s the point. And although it may be too late for a member of our own family, for our child, or partner, or neighbor, we will be saving people in the future from this life altering experience. Get in touch with anyone you can get some time or information from, who was able to make a difference, and find out how they did it. Create a group, support each other, look for support from like-minded individuals.

I'm in Europe actively seeking a new home. I got tired of looking over my shoulder doing day to day errands. No longer free in the usa because of no gun laws.

What else can be done?? We must find ways to : Hold parents legally responsible if they ignore a “loner” child, buy the guns, ignore their talk of shootings, etc. Prevent the media from sensationalizing the shooter - instead do NOT reveal his name and glorify him. Reduce the glorification of VIOLENCE in our culture - video games, music, movies, etc. PRAY - it’s not all we need to do, but it is important.

The only difference is that they don’t have guns and rifles like the ones used here available, let alone open carry. And the democratic and wealthy countries have healthcare, education, affordable housing for the most part. That is probably some of the reasons why we have more violence here. We have to re-decide who we want to be, now that we see who we really are. We are being forced to take a good long look in the mirror. We have to look at who we look up to and want to be like. @Mark Keogh, while I agree with everything you commented as pertains to the mindset of family members in cases like this, I do think they bear some responsibility. Not for Robert’s actions, but certainly for providing him access to weapons when he had previously, on multiple occasions, threatened violence against himself and others. The police had to be involved at one point due to Robert’s unstable behaviour and were reassured by *his parents* that he was receiving mental health treatment and that the confiscated collection of knives should be returned, as they supposedly belonged to Sr. To subsequently sign forms allowing your mentally unstable and potentially violent child to legally purchase firearms is incredibly negligent! No parent wants to believe that their child is capable of murder, but to knowingly facilitate a mentally disturbed person’s access to weapons definitely should raise questions of legal culpability.

it gets tough legally. I work in the mental health field. It frustrating because red flags can alert you, but red flags themselves are not illegal and you really can't do anything if they are refusing help unless they are openly and directly making very clear threats. For example statements like "I'd love to end the world" wouldn't be enough to do anything. he would have to directly say "I intend to do a shooting, I have my gun with me and I am going there now" then they can intervene. We go through it all the time trying to get people who can't care for themselves pushed into treatment . I saw one case where a guy was homeless in the middle of winter, walking around in 10 below zero weather with no shoes and no jacket and that still wasn't enough to show he couldnt care for himself----frustrating. he ended up getting frost bite and lost some toes but the courts simply said it's not illegal

Smart phones, social media etc...is designed to alter the brain development and alter the serotonin and dopamine in the brain. Our reward systems are altered by what bug tech has created. It's a complete mess and anyone with minor kids should get offline. Away from smart phones, apps and even gaming... it's all beyond toxic

Unfortunately, mineral imbalances are being passed down generation after generation. I can see hair patterns in hair mineral analysis that influence people's emotions. Copper/zinc imbalance contributes to things like bipolar disorder. Stress depletes zinc and copper is antagonistic to zinc. Copper is related to the emotional animal brain. Women actually tend to be copper toxic due to its relation to estrogen. Think of PMS which is when a woman is higher in estrogen or copper during her cycle. A mother will pass down her mineral imbalances. Our younger generation is very depleted of minerals and has a higher toxic load because of this. Top it off with social media, the news, broken homes, and the division in our country it's no wonder our youth are struggling. It's quite sad. We all on an individual level need to make our bodies and mental wellbeing a priority.

it depends on the case. for example I am male but since I lack empathy and feel superior to everyone I dont care about connecting with others. I never wanted a girlfriend either I just use women for sex (I approach them in nightclubs and take them to hotels to have sex). I am goodlooking and love being alone. so as I said it depends on the case.
