Moe Norman taught me how to practice. More importantly he taught me how to use my mind to get the most out of my time practicing. In this video I discuss finding your sweet spot - the place where you get Moe's Feeling of Greatness.
About Moe Norman's Single Plane Golf Swing
The Single Plane golf swing is not a quick fix golf technique. It is a system, beginning at address, that simplifies the most important moment of the golf swing - impact.
Starting at address on two planes where the arms hang straight down at address, the Conventional golf swing is complicated. Because the arms are hanging straight down, a conventional golfer must lift the body into impact creating stress on the back.
This upward movement to accommodate the two planes is unnecessary.
The Single Plane Golf swing simplifies the golf swing by eliminating the need for the upward movement by starting and impacting on the same plane.

My friends thought I was crazy for switching to one plane!! Started a couple years ago watching and studying your videos! But I didn’t commit !! Key word ( commitment ) you can’t try the one plane method ..it WILL NOT WORK!! you have to commit, then you’ll see results!!! I finally committed 6 months ago , tough at first especially coming from a plus handicap when I was playing amateur tournaments 15-20 years ago…now almost 50 I played in my first tournament in 15-18 years , shot 87 first round 79 the second…was told to stop trying one plane!! But I’m committed!! Playing very well last couple months and have my handicap index down to .04….playing in another tournament this wknd at a very prestigious course!!!! Expecting to play well !! Would love to speak with you and Tim personally regarding private lessons to take me to the next level.

I’ve noticed in the past my own swing became to flat. As a result I had a very unpredictable dispersion pattern. Usually hosel shanks would creep in and destroy my round. This problem existed throughout my bag. To remedy this fault I used an alignment stick parallel to my trail heel. Stuck it upright in the ground. This forced my to hinge my irons upwards reducing my flat overturn greatly. The results were game changing for me. I averaged 14 over regularly on my home executive course with a personal best of +3 over par on the front nine and par on the back nine shooting 60. That was as my PB for 6 years shot in 2016. I broke that PB shooting +3 over on the back nine and -1 on the front nine finishing +2 for a final 59. I last shot a 71 there 4 months ago and that was my first round there since that last round. If you make a correct change the results are night and day. Anyone who plays in your regular group will be impressed. My 59 round Sept 25/22 is why I believe in a single plane, short backswing! Although I’ve never had a formal lesson I’ve been able to implement enough of the concepts to appreciate the importance of correct fundamentals. These videos are by far the best explanation of Moe’s swing and his philosophy. Your Legacy lives on Moe in all the hearts of those who share in the game you so loved and passed on to future golf generations. Keep up the amazing work Todd(Little Moe)🫵😎

Commit is the optimum word. All my friends see me using the single plain swing yet not one has tried it. I’ve been using the single plain swing now for 5 years and I’ve had my best year ever. Im now 71, and I was so close in scoring my age this year. A 72 I love to practice and if I’m not golfing, I’m on the range. Thanks Todd...”HARD WORK, CAN’T BEAT IT”

I hear ya. 3 yrs in and I play to a 6 hcp. My buddies, Dr. Hacknslash and Mr. Indabushalot continue their haphazard adventures on the course while my shots are straight and long (for 68 years of age...) Thanks to Moe but mostly Todd where my year of Single Plane Academy membership gave me the input and direction that I needed to learn and use this method properly.

@@ToddGravesGolf I certainly enjoy the "feeling of greatness" and have always enjoyed striking a ball. Being somewhat lazy, however, I try to make every chance and practicing as efficient as possible. The GGA and the SPA afforded me the opportunity to do just that. :)

@@Sueezedtight It's and interesting statistic. What determines whether a golfer becomes good has much to do with whether they practice alone, in solitude - figuring out their feelings and sweet spots.

@@ToddGravesGolf My experience (in industry) showed me that a modicum of encouragement and a few specific instructions would always serve the student well. People need to be able to motivate themselves and the feeling of greatness is one heck of a goal to achieve. :)

Thanks for your videos, coming back 4 yrs after a motorcycle accident. had to relearn my swing, remembering Moe as a kid in Oakville On. i started relearning the single plane swing, and i have to tell you after 1 mth i am totally hitting the ball with authority and straight, i cant believe it. then watch DeChambeau who seems to be using a version of Moe's swing. again just want to say thanks and im spreading Moe's swing to everyone.

A single plane is a much more repeatable swing. I'm 54 and have been playing golf for 20 years without improvement. I changed a year ago, picking up what I could from Todd's videos. It felt awkward at first. The first breakthrough was getting the golf ball to compress by hitting it in the club's sweet spot. The next breakthrough was improved consistency with distance and a narrower dispersion angle. I still hit plenty of bad shots, but I'm excited to play golf again and am improving for the first time in many years. The best part is the lack of pain and stress on my body. It's tough to stop at 18 holes, and I'll frequently play 36 if the course isn't crowded. This weekend I took a book with me because the course was crowded, and I had to wait 10 minutes between shots. I could just picture Moe lying in the fairway and taking a nap.

Love the one at a time approach… and not giving a “Shcrap” about where the ball goes… (Google doesn’t list that word though…🤣😂) Shooting great scores with minimal practice thanks to the single plane and NO sore back muscles.

I got an MS in Sport Performance and Conditioning to play better golf. I note that fewer people want to commit to doing the work. Many people want a quick fix to create perfection or simply begin with a "Let me see if I want to commit later mode." The body gains 10% the first month in strength training. Then it is 2% per month. After that there is a strength conversion to sport specific power phase of training. Do the work then see the gains. Why you? You wanted it. That person is all in. I have every book, seen all of your videos, six iron,, and every one of your training aids - all of which helped me pattern a swing. I even bought the Moe Norman Sandy Andy and went to a bunker and hit balls after seeing Moe's video on bunker play. I then I hit 50 degree wedge shots to an uphill green using the video you shot with him to an uphill green. Commitment to the process is enjoyable and develops self confidence. John Wooden said, "The will to prepare to win, is more important than the will to win." great video all the best.

I just finished The Talent Code for the second time a few days ago. You’re right on point, and I would have loved to have seen your relationship with Mr. Norman. The dream would be having a coach to work with on a weekly basis, but I’m grinding in the Single Plane Academy. You’re a great coach and I love your content. Keep up the good work 💪

So so true. I have been coaching (mostly juniors) for over 15 years now. It is so hard to get them not to focus on the shot result. Actually working indoors with a launch monitor and video is the best method I have found to find 'the sweet spot.'

Yes. If you read Dan Coyle's book "The Talent Code" he discusses how the best violinists in the world learn to play. They play without strings - for three years before they get to play music. Technique... is primary. Once technique is learned, results are easy. This should be our model of teaching golf.

When I am working on the sweet spot I don't go to the range. I hit balls into a net because I don't care where they are going. I find by doing this, and eliminating the urge to see flight results instead of where I am working on my sweet spot. Once I feel I am getting grooved, then I will use it when I practice and play.

I prefer to have a Tripod and Ipad. The larger screen is better than just my phone but I will also use the phone if necessary. I suggest the V1 Golf app for swing recording and analysis - but there are others. Members of our Coaching Program - The Single Plane Academy (our online coaching platform) students send their swings through the V1 App and we review and coach through that platform. If you need more detail, email me at toddg@gravesgolf.com and I can walk you through it.
