You do not get the point, this is a song about an abusive relationship, written by a man back then who was obviously in love with an narcissist woman. The very little empathy you are showing listening to this masterpiece talks much louder than your words though. You did not even understand the lyrics (no, its not two years ago). One of the most superficial reacitions to this song I have ever seen. Poor.

@@ToddReacts See? You do not have to know the background of the song as a story. You either feel it - or you dont. This is a question of empathy, not of information. I also did not hurl on you, i just do not live in Murica, where everything you say has to be sugarcoated so that nobody takes offence - or I could start feeling offended about your lack at empathy when reacting to this, you know. I had no intention to offend you, I just spoke my mind openly, without name-calling or anything. Just speaking openly, like you did, when reacting. And yes, I could have provided you with information, but as I already said, this is neither about information, nor is it anybodies else job than yours to educate yourself. While you prefer to simply expect others to do so, by telling me to "do better"? lol Have a nice day.

OMG, what you tell ? 😅 That's not at all this. This song is from Serge Lama (1973). He sent the self-titled autographed album to my parents just before its official release. The complete story of *"Je Suis Malade."* The song is about a heartache experienced at the time of its writing. In 1969, in Chamonix, Serge Lama fell in love with Michèle Potier (birth name Michèle Chauvier), who worked at "Club Med" then through a mutual friend. But their idyll couldn't be unveiled in broad daylight; the two lovers were married and had their children. Later, his beloved moved to Morocco to pursue her career and follow her husband. Serge collapsed. He just lost the love of his life. During a dinner with his friend and composer Alice Dona, the singer confides in his pain; He's in bad shape, and this separation gnaws at him; he suffers. During the meal, Serge keeps repeating: "I'm sick, completely sick!" This sentence will inspire her friend once she returns home. She then composes in the night what she thinks will become a hit. The next day, she contacts Serge. But now, he's gone on tour and won't be back in Paris until September. Never mind, she'll wait for his return. She's so confident that the song will be a huge hit. Once back, Serge goes home to listen to this music. He's totally under the spell of the melody composed by his friend. Therefore, without a word, he writes the lyrics, and most of the text isn't even twenty minutes as he carries this suffering in him and rests on it. It takes barely two hours for its perfect completion. He will admit later that, in his opinion, this song is a hold-up as he wrote it without asking any questions so quickly, as it flowed naturally. Unfortunately, his record company, which lacks precognition, placed the song on Side B of "Les P'tites Femmes de Pigalle." However, at the end of the year, seduced by these touching and desperate words, Dalida, who knows an international career, decides to record a new version. The success is immediate. Not only is the Diva's version a masterpiece of interpretation echoing her own life too, but it sheds an unparalleled light on Serge Lama. It wasn't until many years later that Lara Fabian would sing her version of "Je suis Malade." A cover marking the 90s and again offers the spotlight on the song, which will be shared worldwide and even reach the "Anglo-Saxon" (the United States, English Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom) countries twenty years later in January 2019 thanks to her live interpretation from 1999 live "Lara with love." In particular, thanks to the video reaction of a singing teacher, Rebecca, on her YT channel "Vocal Athlete,": the American coach was followed by thousands of people, and the video quickly reached half a million views (almost a million today). This video will arouse such enthusiasm that other English-speaking KZfaqrs will immediately follow suit and make this song enter the legend. Many music professionals and Internet users now consider today this exceptional interpretation of Lara Fabian as the best stage performance for a song ever made so much the singer knew how to invest in the song and make it her own. And, as fairy tales don't like to end badly, the sublime and poignant message of the song will bear fruit with Serge Lama's beloved, the two lovers reuniting almost ten years later. Michèle Potier has left her husband; Serge is separated from his wife. The two lovers get back together and start a new home. To their delight, in 1983, a little boy was born from this new idyll finally unveiled. Serge Lama married Michèle on June 17, 1991. She succumbed to a stroke 25 years later, at 71, on October 25, 2016, while they still lived together. Serge Lama will later admit that after his beloved wife's tragic loss, he struggled a lot to prepare himself for interpreting this song in front of his audience. So much even that he has several times considered not singing it on stage at all. But, he nevertheless had to resign himself to it as his public would not have understood that it wasn't registered for these singing tours. However, he also recognizes that magic always works when he performs it in front of his fans. He then explains that's a bit like stage fright before a concert, it's almost impossible to control, but the pleasure is immeasurable once the cap of anxiety has been crossed. Peace, folks.

@@domgold30 You're welcome. Yes, but the original version on the INA Archive video (available on YT, is very fascinating and captivating too. The difference lies in each person’s situation. Lara, like Dalida, are the actresses of the song. In the manner of the traditional French school established by Édith Piaf and then by Trenet, Aznavour, Ferré, Brel, etc., the singer draws inspiration from his own life, from his own experiences similar to the theme of the song that he must interpret. He slips into the skin of the character he plays and plays with his emotions. The singer becomes an actor in the song, exactly like in the cinema. This method will also inspire the legendary “Actor Studio.” On the other hand, in the INA Archive video where Serge Lama sings the song that has just been released (1973), he does not play or interpret. He experiences the situation he describes concretely and simultaneously. We even perceive that he speaks directly to this woman through the camera, hoping she will see him on TV. It is an actual presentation he gives to her of his distress and despair in the face of this unbearable situation. We then see him literally liquefy on the TV set. The worst comes when the lyrics emphasize the irony of the singer’s situation, who hears his own voice singing about his misfortunes. An outstanding actor can make you cry in a movie. However, in real life, when someone is depressed and thus exposes their misfortunes to you, even if it is a very close person, it will rarely make you shed a tear. The moment’s emotion is much simpler and much less spectacular than in the cinema. And, yet, the person who really suffers martyrdom at that moment it's him. The actors or actresses, as outstanding as they are, are not suffering physically. Serge Lama's interpretation in this particular video is, therefore, a textbook case, a singularity.

Lara would be classified in the "contemporary" , rather than "pop" category, (although her "I Will Love again" was at the top of the US dance charts in the late 90's). She has been in this business now for thirty years and is pretty well-known world-wide outside the UK and the USA. She is now Canadian, having been born in Belgium and is well-known in Quebec, although probably unknown in Ontario. She writes most of her songs and is very well-known for her emotional delivery. She might be placed in a special, non-mainstream, category with excellent North American singers/songwriters such as Joni Mitchell (who was a model for her when she was young), a performer who also wears her innermost secrets on her sleeve.

Thank you a great reaction. Lara elicits a "musical theatre" comparison fairly often. While there is some truth there, this coming from a person that loves great musical theatre, what Lara does is more impressive, harder...much harder. She has 4 minutes to suck you in, charm you, get you into the proper emotional state (heartsickness, lovesickness in this case) and sell it so completely that you have an experience, the experience required. While this happens in musical theatre, unless it is the opening song, there was a "before", context was provided in words, music and song, dance , from perhaps many different singers and artists, and more, to prepare you for the moment, to help propel you into the experience required. Lara does not have that luxury. What Lara does is magical. No one else I have ever seen can do it this well. She is thus the O.G., the G.O.A.T. at emotional manipulation through her 4 minute art. All available and potential tools are on the table with Lara as she picks, intentionally, what is needed to enhance the spell. Then she starts over in the next song from scratch (Other than there are lingering effects of the spell she cast from the previous song). Final thought, Celine Dion comparisons are fair, and Celine is a force to be reconned with without doubt. But Celine did not do this kind of art. Lara is the Queen, long may she reign.

A must is Lara's concert "From Lara with Love - 2000" every song (I believe 11) is great! She sings in French, Italian, Spanish & English. She as written the lyrics to Adagio, Broken Vow, I will Love again, You are not from Here, Yeliel (My Angel) & I am Who I Am. Her song "Broken Vow" has been covered by the likes of Josh Groban , Barbra Streisand and many-many more! I see that you are relatively new, might I suggest exploring artists from the Philippines namely Morissette Amon (Asia's Phoenix), Norway's Angelina Jordan who won Norway's Got Talent at age 8 (audition at 7 she sang Gloomy Sunday by Billie Holiday), she is not 17 and has a catalog of more that 170 KZfaq videos. Invited by Quincy Jones at 12 to open his 85th birthday celebration London with Quincy's own arrangement of Fly Me To the Moon (there's a rehearsal video with a full orchestra).

Indeed US songs are usually much about the same topic using the same vocabulary and descriptive stuff I miss you you miss me crap and round the same bush again. Look at “Autumn leaves” and “ne ne quitte pas” “notre sentier” “comme ils disent” “Gottingen “the gorilla “(English version) as prime examples.
