Here's part two of my interview with TOEFL tutor Han Joon Lee. His score was just reported (119) and we touch on some of his approaches to TOEFL teaching. We talked about:
1. Studying giant vocabulary books.
2. The value of really examining practice sets instead of rushing through them.
3. The usefulness of getting plenty of non-TOEFL conversation time.
4. Feedback, feedback, feedback.
5. The value of shadowing and dictation.
6. Student buy-in on the importance of preparation.
If you want to reach out to Han Joon for help with the TOEFL, find him here:

A bundle of thanks Michael for all the amazing videos. I want to say that I am welling to have speaking sessions with whoever out there for an extremely low price. Even lower than you mentioned. Maybe the first session to check out whether they like or not.🤛

Hi Mich, and thank you for the great interview, your guest, Mr. Han-Joon, was exceptional. My question is, where can we find Korean vocab books.
@Toeflresources

Amazon has 'em. Start by looking for "Hackers Vocabulary."

Really good interview, thank you Michael for your initiative. Keep going💪🏽 I just have a question, Is there any way for ETS to provide test takers by a solid feedback for speaking/ writing questions to make test takers make some developments or is it something beyond our expectations😂
@Toeflresources
@Toeflresources 11 ай бұрын
I think that is expecting too much. I don't think ETS will ever provide feedback on test-taker responses.

Do the human rater and the e-rater (AI) produce the same score in the writing section?
@Toeflresources
@Toeflresources 11 ай бұрын
No. They produce scores independently of each other, and the scores could be different.

((It is important to remember that the e-rater and the human rater usually produce the same score when evaluating essays so the "averaging out" is somewhat irrelevant)) What is the meaning of this saying please? 🤔
@Toeflresources
@Toeflresources 11 ай бұрын
That's something I wrote five years ago. I don't know if it is totally accurate, still. But the point is that the e-rater and the human rater produce very similar scores.@@MohammedAqar

Also, I feel it is really stupid from ETS to limit non native speakers’ ability yo just reach 23 as a max score. Do u feel the same way?

23 of what?
@Toeflresources
@Toeflresources 11 ай бұрын
That's not really what he's saying. He just means that students in Korea have a hard time getting above 23.
@zs7487
@zs7487 11 ай бұрын
Is there any specific reason behind that?
@Toeflresources
@Toeflresources 11 ай бұрын
No. It is a hard test, basically. There are a lot of things that could go wrong. For some people it relates to intonation. For others it is a speaking rate thing. For others something else.
