I took a work vacation at WEEK Kamiyama, an accommodation facility in Kamiyama-cho, Tokushima. Kamiyama is a town in the mountains with a population of about 6,000. Still, it has been attracting attention as a town where IT ventures and entrepreneurs are relocating and moving one after another.
Once a marginal community, the town has been reborn through cooperation among immigrants, locals, and the local government as part of a regional revitalization effort. In 2023, a newly established technical college, Kamiyama Marugoto National College of Technology, will be established for the first time in 19 years.
This time, I went on a work vacation in a town where such exciting things happen.
