John, I can hand on my heart say you've been a life saver throughout lock down. Personal circumstances, I'd saved for 4 years to fund my 4 week trip to Japan, I wanted to do it big for my first visit only for Covid to ruin my plans. (I was meant to be coming in May 2020). After it got cancelled, and the never ending lock down, I felt disheartened for weeks on end, more or less accepting that Japan may never happen for me now. But I have to say your videos have kept me motivated, energised and allowed me to continue my interest in Japan. I can't wait to come more than ever now, fingers crossed 2021 is the year we can all travel safely again. Thanks for all the effort you put in, much love from the UK. 💕 🇬🇧 Jake 🙌🏻

If you like octopus its a good start Some shops do too takoyaki without octopuss but you must try i love but never eat it str8 away or be doing the takoyaki dance give 5min,then dig in Itakimasu

Hey John, we ate at that Gindaco takoyaki shop way back 2018. Then we went on to Tsukiji for some marketplace treats. I miss Japan so much 🥺🥺🥺!

I saw the live stream coming yesterday (it was supposed to be 10pm for me) and made a difficult decision to go to bed and see the recorded video Saturday morning/day :D Because if I'd start watching a takoyaki video at 10pm I'd have to go and rob the fridge :D Love takoyaki too much

once when i was in Osaka, my local Japanese fren brought me to a local Takoyaki Bar, and ordered for me what he said a local speciality, where the Takoyaki balls were served in a clear broth. it was super delicious!

I today did! EXHIBIT (1) I took a long time before I decided to take a bite EXHIBIT (2) I looked at the camera and knew this could go wrong EXHIBIT (3) It wasn’t as hot as the past 🥵 EXHIBIT (4) I didn’t lose any skin on the roof of my mouth this time :)

Honestly, I find takoyaki a bit rubbery when I chew it, but every time I see your videos of takoyaki, with all the various toppings, I want some.

Do you mean the octopus inside is rubbery or the whole thing? Because it is supposed to be barely set in the middle, very custardy/creamy, definitely shouldn't be rubbery!

In johns defense I think he was only trying to explain the droplets on the window and thought it might be grease. If you look closely the window looks extremely clean as if it’s cleaned periodically of spatters that’s probably where the droplets come from.

There is only one place around here that sells Takayama, but it isn't made in the traditional way. It is a frozen product they deep fry.

feature suggestion "Tokyo Bay Aqualine" ^_^ (via bus or car) breathtaking view all around where one can see multiple landmarks like mt fuji, skytree tokyo tower rainbow bridge and more "Umihotaru" also the underwater expressway connect to kizarasu chiba... i ♥ yoshinoya yakiniku gyudon ouki des... also adds "togarashi" to make it more delicious..

I would have gone Match drink, mostly because i think i could pronounce Matcha Drinka :). I dont eat seafood but when ever you do I almost feel like i'll try it when I get to Japan :)

the sound and video are off on this starting around close to 22:00 minutes in. thought I'd let you know, they also have a pretty good Tako place in Akihabara, it's at the base of the Yodobashi building next to the crepe place. It's the first one I went to last year. XD

Get the grill, I had electric and there is a difference! Ordered a cast iron pan from Japan and never regretted it. I like Bonita flakes, green onion and I make my own yum yum sauce instead of the usual sauce.

I always, without exception, burn my mouth with things like takoyaki and certain types of xiao long bao. Just like with tempura (which I love), I have yet to eat takoyaki in Japan despite going several times already.

“I haven’t eaten Takoyaki in a week” Me: I’ve never been able to eat it. We finally went to Tokyo for 3 days last year and I got sick on the flight over and couldn’t eat anything. I had so many food plans. At least on the first night I had some great Ramen but after that I was barely able to eat crackers. I hope to go back and try some food.

Does it taste better than the takoyaki in Osaka, Dotonburi? I was served one there that was a bit undercooked, didn't have the heart to complain:P

Yes and no - DOTONBURI is a tourist center and the street food is not so good. Obviously tourists don’t know good from great! So Osaka has great takoyaki but DOTONBURI is average at best.

I love Gindaco, we used to have it here in Singapore, but they have closed all outlets a few years back. The nearest branch is in Bangkok! With this travel restrictions, I don’t know when I’ll be able to eat Gindaco! So sad! Stay safe John! Keep the videos coming.

ONLY in JAPAN * GO loved the episode... deco the one because we started the day in Tsukiji Inner Market, went past the outer stores you filmed then headed towards Ginza. I just looked back on the Facebook post. Funnily no matter how long you leave to cool, you almost always burn your mouth. John, the food review made are awesome... keep it up... perhaps you could review the more small restaurant which are foreigner friendly.

Hey, John. There’s some setting on your live streams that is missing. I usually watch on AppleTV to have it on the large screen while doing other things. I’ve been watching the Kodo live streams for EC this weekend and noticed it was possible to have the chat show on screen. I’d never seen that on your videos and was always a little disappointed by it. I thought maybe the (very terrible) KZfaq app had been updated and added the feature. But here I am today watching your stream and that feature is NOT there! Please look into it on your side. Thanks!

It’s not something on my side I can activate. The live chat is there Tyler. Also remember they have a profession hired team to help film and broadcast, I’m in an iPhone 11 Pro. The chat is there so I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♂️ if there is a difference between mobile and computer. I doubt it.

@@onlyinjapanGO Thanks for the reply. Chat is always on desktop browser and mobile for me, but for whatever reason not on your streams in the KZfaq AppleTV app. The icon to display is just not there as it is on Kodo’s for example.

@@onlyinjapanGO Figured out what it is after a fruitless google search. It only happens when the stream is actually live. There’s no option to show the chat during replay which seems silly but there you go..

@@tylerdurden6882 I now have the option to see the live stream chat after it has ended (Android). The option is next to the thumbs up and thumbs down just under the video title, a little icon says "live chat" which brings that up instead of the comments posted afterwards.

@@secretdiaryofafoodie yes, that option has long existed in browsers as well, and why I was confused that it wasn't available on one platform. I had never experienced it not being there and so thought chat replay was always present, and conversely chat was always missing (live or replay) on one platform. turned out that YT has made the app on the platform only have live chat and replay is never an option. maybe it'll be added when they also finally add 4k, which is allegedly soon. thanks though

Toyosu is Toyosu. It’s a different town. It’s not “new” Tsukiji. It’s Toyosu Fish Market 😁 🐠
